Nothing of Note

Some cool items in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers, but nothing that we really needed, so I passed on everything.

.: Emile Henry Couleurs 8-1/2-Inch by 5-1/2-Inch Individual Lasagna Baker, Set of 2, Red: I thought this is something Steven might have been able to use since he's started baking lasagna, but he wasn't interested.

Won't You Be My Neighbor?

This is a cool little thing. By adding a few lines of code to your site, you can use GeoURL to find out who's blogging near you. Not surprisingly, Christine is my nearest neighbor.

Things To Do, but Oh, So Tired

I wanted to sit on the computer and work on things all night (even though I've gotten a lot of stuff on the latest To Do List done already), but after the best massage ever (Amber was amazing. She was able to work just about all the knots out of my neck and shoulders, something that never happens) I have been too unmotivated. As a matter of fact, I am going to shower and either come back downstairs and watch tonight's ER or stay upstairs and read more in Jemima J. Maybe the cat will come sit with me and I can drift off to the sound of her purrs.

Can you tell I love Thursday nights? It's because now it's basically Friday and Friday's rock.

Bliss

I am blissfully happy about today. I am scheduled for a massage at a local massage intern school tonight for a massage that will last an hour and only cost me $25. The Car Butler people were here (they park in the parking lot, you give them your keys, and they bring them to you in your office when they're done), so my car is spotlessly clean now. I had lunch for $2.14, thanks to my coupon, and had a great time with my co-workers. Some days are just nice, you know?

I Hate SUVs

Here's an article that backs all along what I've been saying about SUVs - the owners mostly drive like assholes and they are really dangerous. Very interesting reading courtesy of The New Guy at my office.

That Yankee Smell

I just noticed that Yankee Candles is a member of Ebates, so that was enough to prompt me to take advantage of their clearance sale and snag some ornaments while I got another 22 oz. Housewarmer candle in their delicious Buttercream scent. I just can't resist that smell.

Annoying Bumper Stickers

I saw the most annoying bumper stickers today at lunch. The first one said, "Smile! Your mom chose life!" While that one was bad, it was nothing compared to the one that said, "How can there be too many children? That's like saying there can be too many flowers."

Right. Except flowers don't require things like food, clothes, diapers, and other basics that some poor woman may not be able to afford or be metally prepared to give. A flower you just plop in water.

Reasons For Love #13

Every Wednesday those who are involved in a relationship with somebody share a few (simple but significant) reasons for their love. Please keep in mind that this does not have to be a romantic relationship. It can be about a parent, a sibling, a friend, a co-worker, your kid, your dog, whatever.

Stop in here to join the notify list, see who else has left their reasons, and to be added to the blogroll. Also, feel free to save the button below to your server and link it to http://www.neuroticfishbowl.com/reasons.html

Get Your Money Back

Surprise, surprise! Turns out the music industry is guilty of price fixing CDs. Who'd have thought? The good news, though, is that if you bought a CD between 1995 and 2000 you are elligbile to be part of the class action lawsuit. You can get $20 back by going and filing a claim. It's not much money, but it's better than nothing and I personally would like to see the recording industry lose a little money.

Christmas in January

This week is like Christmas all over again! Yeserday I got all my presents from Jeanna and then today and I had a ton of boxes arrive on my desk. Well, they were all stuff I had ordered online, except for a package that I couldn't place.

I open it up and inside is a gorgeous blue, purple, and silver beaded bracelet and earrings from Dragonfly Lane sent by none other than the adorable Kristine. The beads are just gorgeous and I totally love the set. Of course, now I want to order more stuff since everything is just so beautiful. Thank you so much, sweet Kristine-y. You are a better friend than most people ever get to have in their life.

A New Year

It's the new year, so everyone is making New Year's resolutions. There's a lot of things in my life that I would like to change, so here's my list. Some of these are silly, some more serious. I expect to have a varying degree of success and failure with all of them.

1. Lose fifteen to twenty pounds.
Over the past year or so, I've put on some weight and I really want to get rid of it. Ideally, I'd like to get back to how I look in this picture. I'm not too far off, but it seems insurmountable, for some reason. I have to keep in mind that I lost 50 pounds my senior year in college, so this is a piece of cake. Maybe that's a bad analogy, though. ;-)

2. Drink eight glasses of water a day.
During May and June I did this every work day. Now I'm back to drinking no water at all. I definitely noticed an improvement in my appearance when I was drinking that much, so it's time to do it again. I need to see if Steven will go back to paying me $1.00 for every eight glasses of water I drink. I'll take all the motivation I can!

3. StairMaster harder and longer.
I've slacked back to a level 3 session on the StairMaster when I exercise. I was thinking back to when I used to really use that thing hard and stairmaster for at least a half hour (sometimes forty minutes) and at a much higher level. I always felt so good about myself when I got off after burning 300 calories. Now, I burn just over 100. Time to keep it back up. I'll do harder sessions and on days that I only stairmaster without going to the gym, at least a half hour.

4. Go to the gym more.
I used to go at least three times a week and now I'm down to like three times a year. I can't even remember the last time I went in the gym. That has got to change.

5. Eat better.
I eat like crap. I will never be one of those people that have no fat in their meals, but I can stop having incredibly unhealthy lunches like I've taken to eating.

6. Save more money.
I have just been out of control these last few months. I need to go back to writing checks and stop using the credit cards so much. It's too easy to spend the money that way.

7. Stop worrying so damn much.
I worry about everything and it's so pointless to, especially the things I can't change. I am going to try and go back to the even tempered girl that I was for a long time.

8. Be more positive.
Kind of goes on the heels of the resolution above. I have a good life: wonderful friends and family, a boyfriend that loves me, an adorable cat, a job, and there is no reason I should feel life is as bleak as I some times make it out to be.

9. Watch more movies.
I used to watch movies all the time of all types of genres and styles and now I hardly ever watch any. I miss movies and need to watch more of them.

10. Take more pictures.
I was taking so many photos for Picture Fish and really enjoying it and getting good shots, when I kind of just let my interest in photography wane. Time to fire up the camera again.

Exhausted, but What a Good Day!

I got back from my day out with Jeanna about an forty-five minutes ago and have been catching up on some stuff, but since I want to download the 400 e-mail messages waiting for me (no, seriously, 400. And that's without spam), I figured I should make this post while it was still pretty fresh.

We got to the museum and went into the Titanic Exhibit almost right away. Upon starting the tour, you receive a boarding pass with a name of a passenger. At the end of the exhibit, you can look your name up on the wall and see if you survived or not. Jeanna was given Miss Hanora "Nora" O’Leary, third class and I received Miss Olga Elida Lundin, third class. I bemoaned our fate since not many third class passengers survived (something like 136 lived and 540 died), but Jeanna assured me that we would survive because if we had been on the boat, we would have contingency plans for emergencies and would never leave one another.

We started through the exhibit and I must say it was awe inspiring. They had some of the exhibit made up to look like the actual rooms, which was cool. They had lists of how much foodstuff had been taken on board (40 tons of potatoes, for instance), quotes from people, recovered artifacts, stories about the people on board, a huge iceberg to touch, and all kinds of information about the disaster.

Towards the end of the tour, we came upon the passenger list and began searching for our names. Jeanna has known a fair amount of people who have seen the exhibit and not one of them had survived. We looked for her first and found her name among the survivors, but didn't see me. Another look, however, showed that both of us survived the disaster, showing that two friends like us can get through anything together. ;-)

After that, we walked through the Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals (cool, but way too long) and then went to the Cockrell Butterfly Center. We saw tons of butterflies, even one that was laying her eggs on a plant, took a bunch of pictures, and even saw a huge, really cool looking iguana. We got some great jewelry on sell in one of the gift shops, but now that I get home and look at the receipt, it appears that the discount wasn't taken off, so I'll have to call them tomorrow and see if I can get it straightened out.

After grabbing a coke and some chips from a gas station, we went to the French Impressionism: Masterpieces from Copenhagen´s Ordrupgaard Collection and the Masterworks from El Greco to Picasso in The Phillips Collection at The Museum of Fine Arts.

Some of the stuff was just gorgeous and I found some pieces and artists that I want to learn more about, but some of it I just wasn't that interested in. Jeanna pointed out that I really go for landscapes and stuff more than I do for paintings of people and she is so right.

After we grabbed some hot dogs at James Coney Island, we did our gift exchange. She got me Stila's Creme Bouquet perfume that I just love, a book of haiku, a beautiful copy of The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry, and Arabat by Clive Barker (which was a very special treat because I didn't even know he had a new book out). In an odd twist, I had given her Rod Stewart's "It Had to Be You... The Great American Songbook", but she got it from her sister for Christmas, so she gave it back to me since I didn't have a copy.

All in all, it was an incredibly fun day, even if I am exhausted and my feet are killing me from walking around so much. I hope everyone else had a Sunday as wonderful as the one I had.

Culture Vultures

Today Jeanna and I are off to the Houston Museum of Science to see the Titanic exhibit and the The Cockrell Butterfly Center. If time permits, we're going to go around the corner to the Museum of Fine Arts and see the Impressionist exhibit. Both exhibits are ending today, so it's a last chance to take them in.

We're also exchanging Christmas presents, so there's prezzies in store for the day too. Woo hoo! :-)

Everyone enjoy their Sunday and I'm sure I'll have lots to talk about when I get back.

Random Picture Fish Image

I used a combination of two plugins by David Raynes - MTOtherBlog and MTRandomEntries - to add a random picture from Picture Fish in the sidebar. Hopefully, this will inspire me to get off my ass and start putting pictures in Picture Fish again!

By the way, both of these plugins were found in Kristine's MT Plugin Directory. If you have MT, you should check out all the plugins for nifty things to do in your own blog.
