Genie in a Bottle
Just in case I happen upon a bottle in the sand while in Galveston next week for Christine and Mike's wedding and a genie pops out to grant my three wishes, I decided to go ahead and have them ready. They are as follows:
- The ability to control my fertility and weight (technically this should probably be two wishes, but since this is my fantasy, it counts as one)
- Enough money so that the only job I ever have to have is professional poker player and so, if I don't win very much, I don't have to worry about it
- A man with the following qualities: tall (6'1" would be ideal), good looking, smart, interesting, and kind
Now all I have to do is find that damn bottle and I'm set.

If you find one, after you make your very good wishes, toss it my way. ;) Wouldn't it be nice if such a thing as a genie bottle existed, though? I can think of lots of wishes.
Have a great time in Galveston!

How come its always either one or three wishes? Never two. Never four. Never more than that.
Limited range of options these genies have.

You forgot a man who can make you laugh!!

*hee* you know, I'll finish off this bottle of wine here, and if there's a genie in the bottom, he's all yours. :-) yeah - that's it. that's why I need to drink all the wine - for kymberlie. That's what I'll tell Jay. ;-)
(I think you're beautiful and amazing the way you are, girlie. And I'm certain Jay'd be right there with you on that second wish! :-))

Galveston has a lot of bottles on it's sandy shores. Choose yours wisely ;-)
Have fun darl'n !

oh, miss kymberlie.. I can't believe I'm coming to Houston and I'm not going to meet you :( but have a wonderful time this weekend and we should definitely try to meet soon! xox

You just need two wishes. Get the first two taken care of and I'll bring you the third...
Or work on the third first...

Survivor Strategy
As you can tell from my Netflix history, I've been watching the first season of Survivor. When the show first started I thought it was a really stupid idea and spurned watching it until about two years ago when they split the tribes into male and female. Feminist that I am, I couldn't resist watching it to see how it was going to play out. Now I'm totally hooked on the show and love it, especially the All-Star season that just finished up.
After watching the game for a few years (especially after how Machiavellian this season was) it's amazing to me that people went in and never organized alliances with the exception of a few players. Several players even refused to get in on alliances, something that would pretty much guarantee you a loss if you tried it now. One of the guys is voting for people alphabetically, not even trying to eliminate anyone. It's amazing how different the game became, and from what I understand, just after this first season. Should be interesting to see the evolution when the rest of the seasons come out on DVD.

I don't even remember the alphabet voter's name (though I remember his face, oddly enough), but I remember being really irked by his "strategy".

Burn It FYI
Just an FYI, but music overlapping on Burn It CDs isn't a big deal. Make your CD the way you want it and if there's overlap, that's fine. The whole point of Burn It (for me anyway) is to make a CD that I enjoy and share it with others. If it's stuff that people have heard before or already have, that's just the way the cookie crumbles. :-)

I received Donna's CD a few days ago, but refrained from opening it, just because I didn't want her choices to affect mine. I didn't want to feel I had to leave something out because someone else had it in their mix. I wanted to do the mix my way.
My playlist is now all set to go, and only then did I open and listen to Donna's CD. No overlap there!
But I agree with you, Kymberlie. If we don't feel free to put what WE like on our own mixes...there is really no point in doing the swap at all. I love compiling my own mixes and sharing them, and it's cool to find that some people like the same stuff that I like!
Thank you for having this exchange!
Oh...and my CD's will be mailed out on Friday!
Posted by Christine at May 20, 2004 12:16 AM
Thanks for the advice, in addition to your email. I did realize it didn't technically matter that some of my songs match yours because you're not in my group. But, you WILL be getting a copy, and I just thought it might not be as much fun if you got almost identical CDs. You're right though, it should be about what WE like, so I did wind up leaving a few overlaps on there. Only 2 out of my 24 songs though, not bad.
I just finished burning one copy and I'm testing it out in my car to make sure it all turned out ok. If so, I'll probably have the CDs mailed off by this weekend! :)

Yeah, but I'm neurotic about things like that. While composing my mix, I don't want outside influences. Just because I know it will make me change something in mine.
On a separate note, why on *earth* did you call me at 2:22 in the morning last night?!? (I guess I have to listen to my voice mail to find out, huh? Bah.)

Netflix Suite for MT
I finally caved in and joined Netflix (in case you've been living under a rock and don't know about them, they let you have up to three movies out at a time for $19.99 a month and you can rent as many as you want). I'm currently out of work, so I've already watched four movies since I joined last week.
Of course, since I'm also a geek, I had to install the Netflix Suite for MT which allows you to show what movies you currently have out, which ones you've seen, and which ones are in your queue. If you're interested, you can check out my Netflix viewing habits here.
Oscar, the creator of the Netflix Suite, is also going to be working on adding functionality to let you see what I rated a movie so you can see what I thought of it.
So, anyone have any movies - new or old - that are must sees that I need to add to my list?

oh man, netflix. i definitely was a netflix addict before i got cable, then i just held onto the movies for a really long time. i love the netflix mt, that is some good stuff. i just saw "matchstick men", that movie was great. and my boyfriend just saw "the cooler" and thought that deserved two thumbs up too. :)
Posted by allie at May 18, 2004 09:20 PM
oh my god Netflix is like the best thing ever. My local hub is the same place my local post office is so I get movies in a day I love it.
Posted by xerxes at May 18, 2004 09:39 PM
I just bought "Shine" with Geoffrey Rush the other day. it's one of my absolute favorites.
Posted by girl at May 18, 2004 10:21 PM
I used to be a member of Netflix - I wish I still was! We can't afford it anymore. It's a great business idea though, and I'm glad to see it's still going strong.
Posted by Meredith at May 19, 2004 08:22 AM
We've been using Netflix since last year and love it. However we downgraded our membership form the $19.95 (add tax to $20.75)/month because of their upcoming rate increase to $21.99 (add tax too). But we still love it..especially since they opened a distribution center only a hour drive from us..we get movies really quickly. Which reminds me..we have three movies to watch this week! hehe

Love Netflix...but gave it up so I could get HBO for the last of SATC, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Six Feet Under. Damn, I miss it though!!
Check out SHALLOW GRAVE...creepy, super well acted and teaches a lesson in "the economy of story telling" Just a thought. From the makers of Trainspotting...before they were all flashy. Just a thought - first thing that popped into my head. ;-)

Here's some movie suggestions (if you haven't seen them already) that are some of my personal favorites:
Zero Effect
Memento
The Following
I'll just say three of them, love netflix though.

Burn It - The Spring 2004 Edition Playlist
Thanks to Acoustica MP3 CD Burner, I was able to do cross-fading on my Burn It - The Spring 2004 Edition Playlist and get it to fit onto one CD.
This CD really ran the gamut. It starts out with Tori doing Bruce Springsteen's I'm on Fire accompanied only with her piano and ends up with Less Than Jake doing a punk cover of I Think I Love You. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Great songs! We have a few that overlap, and it's not the obvious ones... very cool! :)
Posted by D at May 17, 2004 04:14 PM
man, i didn't even THINK to put on that pet shop boys song. that is one of my favorites. i am still working on mine... but i just realized i have A LOT of cure, weezer and pixie covers. :)
Posted by allie at May 18, 2004 09:22 PM
man. all of my songs must be huge b/c I could only fit 14 and a little clip.
Posted by girl at May 19, 2004 12:38 AM
I'm gonna have to go hunting for some of these songs soon.
Posted by Z. Hendirez at May 19, 2004 09:21 AM
Hmm, I've got 4 that overlap. Maybe I should try to be creative and find a few alternatives.
Posted by Jennifer at May 19, 2004 11:28 AM
Crud... i've got 3 that overlap. i went for an entirely punk feel.
Posted by kim at May 19, 2004 05:24 PM
We only have 2 that overlap and since I'm visiting/housesitting, I don't have access to my music library so you're gettin' 'em again!
Posted by Lisa at May 19, 2004 08:11 PM
I didn't have any that overlapped. I rule! ;-)
Posted by girl at May 19, 2004 11:38 PM
I rule because I can gar-un-tee that nobody will have any of the cover songs that I have. :-P
I even have an amazing solution/idea for the insert. Those in my group will either be pleasantly surprised or at least appreciative of my efforts.
Posted by Jay at May 28, 2004 08:45 AM
Not worried so much about overlap, just find it amusing that songs I thought were obscure were on your list too - Gipsy Kings' Hotel California didn't seem like something others would have! And Gary Jules...I should have figured that one would be popular, but I still like it.
Huh. I didn't even realize I had that Sugar Ray song. I probably would have put that on, too.

Sickly Sunday
I went to bed last night with my throat kind of bothering and woke up with a fever and a throat so sore I can barely swallow (keep your perveted thoughts to yourself!). I've slept most of the day and I feel a little better, but damn!, does my throat hurt. I haven't eaten all day and I'm starving, but I'm not sure that I could actually swallow any food. Damn summer colds.

Kymberlie, you do know that Houston is in the midst of a strep throat epidemic, right? Go to the doctor! Untreated strep can lead to nasty complications.
Hope you feel better soon!
