My Heart Goes Out
My heart goes out to all involved with the Columbia tragedy. How sad and terrible. My thoughts are with you all.

SXSW - To Go or Not To Go
I had pretty much not even considered going to SXSW this year even though I could get a discounted badge for being a Bloggies finalist (btw, the voting ends tonight, so if you haven't voted yet, you still have time). I was talking to Rannie and he suggested blowing off the conference and just coming up for the weekend and hanging out at night.
This is a great idea. Steven's brother has an apartment in Austin that he rarely uses, so I bet we could even wrangle a free room. So, if I do decide to go, who else is coming? If there's enough cool people, it may help make my mind up for me. ;-)

I am also debating whether or not to go. If I go, I was just planning on being social and not attending the actual conference. Our H-Town/DFW party is on a mOnday night though so either way I'll be missing it...

My husband and I are thinking of going. We'll probably decide in the next couple of days.

Pop! Six! Squish! Uh Uh! Cicero! Lipschitz!
I am sitting here happy at work because I am listening to my copy of the Chicago soundtrack and it is just so much fun! What exuberant music! If you haven't seen the movie yet, go see it immediately.

I haven't seen the movie yet, and I've only owned the soundtrack for a few days, but I know every single word to The Cellblock Tango!! It's probably one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard!

Printer Problems

I've become so addicted to my printer that I get nuts when it doesn't work, which happens often. And I don't know what is keeping me from having it checked.

Mix Tapes For All
Jen has this great idea. It's the Cant-Stop.org Mix Project.
The idea behimd the project is that every week or two she'll post a theme (this week's is "Road Trip") and then you submit five choices for the theme. The tracklist gets posted so you can download them for yourself. Neat idea.

It's a Group Thing XLVII
Today's "It's a Group Thing" term is one I found quite amusing. Today's term is:
A Convulsion of Belly Dancers
For those of you who missed what this is all about, each week I will feature a term for groups of things from An Exaltation of Larks: The Ultimate Edition by James Lipton. I found the book really interesting and wanted to share it with everyone.

Reasons For Love #16
Every Wednesday those who are involved in a relationship with somebody share a few (simple but significant) reasons for their love. Please keep in mind that this does not have to be a romantic relationship. It can be about a parent, a sibling, a friend, a co-worker, your kid, your dog, whatever.
Stop in here to join the notify list, see who else has left their reasons, and to be added to the blogroll. Also, feel free to save the button below to your server and link it to http://www.neuroticfishbowl.com/reasons.html
I love Steven because...
- For his birthday he wanted a $200 duvet. He is such a gay straight man, something I find irrestible.
- He's been sick all week and unbeknowst to me, has been using different towels in the bathroom so I wouldn't get sick.
- He bought me a flannel blanket and then came and covered me up when I was on the computer.
- He made lasagna, a different recipe than last time, on Super Bowl Sunday and it was delicious.
- We had an interesting conversation about politics on the way home from dinner last night.
- He promised me Chinese Cafe for dinner this weekend. Yum!

The Blog A Day Tour
(That's right... it's the 2003 Blog A Day Tour by Laurence Simon of Amish Tech Support! This is not a post by Kymberlie - she is not this neurotic.)
I like the name of Kymberlie's site. "Neurotic Fishbowl" has a ring to it, don't you think?
There's something relaxing and healing about watching fish for a while. Sure, the tank can be a royal pain to maintain, but not if you're watching somebody else's fishbowl. It's kind of like visiting someone to get all the benefits of cat or dog therapy without having to have your own cat or dog.
Is it just as soothing for people to look at a weblog fishbowl and stare at the author-fish within? Will a screen-saver fishbowl do just as well, or a DVD with fishy goings-on work on an HDTV receiver? Will every cable system eventually show a fishbowl channel like that one station in New York does the Yule Log?
Anyway, the thought that came to my mind about this site had to do with some other sites out there and titles. Every now and then, a site gets really big, and all sorts of other sites pop up that play on that site's name.
For instance, Glenn Reynolds' InstaPundit. With his success, all sorts of people jumped on the *pundit bandwagon, like VodkaPundit and DailyPundit, and QuasiPundit and IsraPundit and Isntapundit and so forth. I'm sure that many of these folks were *pundit before the pundit-to-end-all-pundits" (or is that pundit-to-link-all-pundits) came about, but quite a few popped up.
Unlike the pundit-clique, there's also a lot of people just happily swimming in their fishbowls. It made me wonder why there aren't any plays on this site's name, seeing as how neat I think is it. I mean, imagine if there were a Psychotic Fishbowl or an Erotic Fishbowl or a Despotic Fishbowl out there. What would those sites be about?
How about playing on the Neurotic part with a Neurotic Soupbowl or a Neurotic Toiletbowl or Neurotic Manute Bol? An Oklahoma author could call his site the "Neurotic Dustbowl" even.
(Once again, this was not Kymberlie. This was the Amish Tech Support Blog A Day Tour stop for today. We now return you to your regularly-scheduled fishbowling.)

Online Counts
I was surfing Christine's site when I noticed she had a current users count on her site.
I had disabled my Fast Online Users on last week, but had really liked it, so I was glad to find the link went to EOT Networks that has a nifty little script that does the same thing. The coolest part is that you can change what it displays based on multiple or single visitors on the site. Very cool.

Thanks for the ping! I have both scripts installed on my page (the one you posted about and the one from PerlOnline). I'm testing them to see which one really works! So far I haven't seen anyone else on my site but me with the PerlOnline script. Maybe I'm just not getting hits, but I wanted to make sure it worked!! Thanks for the info. =)

Dinner With Friends
Tonight we went to dinner with Steven's parents and a friend of theirs from their overseas days and their daughter, Angie. She's uber cool, loves Eddie Izzard, and I really enjoy seeing her.
We went to Taste of Texas, which is this great steakhouse that neither Steven or I had been to before. Delicious food. Great people to talk to. Wonderful birthday/blogiversary meal. :-)

Isn't that the Taste of Texas in the North Dallas area? I'm curious as I used to live in Dallas. Grew up in Garland too. Great site. You're on my blogroll. Have a great day!
Posted by James at January 29, 2003 07:52 AM
Yeah that's a really great restruant. My good friend was a hostess there for two years, so whenever I went I would get a nice discount, which was nice because they were too expensive for me normally. I love the fact that you can get your steak wrapped in bacon. How cool is that? I don't know if you know it, but "Dinner With Friends" the title of your post is also a great big band chart that I play on almost a weekly basis.
Posted by photomatt at January 30, 2003 12:28 AM
Oh, I *LOVE* Taste of Texas. The I.O. and I used to go there for birthdays and things like that - it was our favorite "fancy" place to go. Yummmmmm... I haven't been there in a few years - I think it's time to go back! The only place in town that beats it is Morton's on Westheimer at the Galleria. Fabu! :)

Happy Blogiversary To Me!
Today is my one year blogiversary. Who would have thought that I would get into blogging as much as I have?
I truly do love to blog. Whether it be to record an event in my life, to blow off steam, or just to talk to the people that come by here every day, I enjoy it.
If you haven't been around since the beginning (I would be surprised if a lot of people have), I added the OnThisDay Plugin to the sidebar under the calendar so you can catch up on the past. Should be interesting to see if there's a change in my blogging as the year goes by.
Blogaritas for everyone!

I read in some magazine awhile back that if you take the Pill all the time (as in real pills instead of the week of placebos), you can eliminate having periods. I have rather painful periods myself, and am thinking about trying it...even though Mike is vasectomized and I really don't need birth control anymore.
My advice:
1. Aleve works far better than ibuprofren (which is pretty much what Midol is) for the cramps.
2. Those Therma-Care heat wraps really DO work. I first tried them for my back problems, but the ones for menstrual cramps work just as well.
Hope you feel better soon!

I think the last five minutes was an attempt at causing half of America to go into cardiac arrest...I no more said, "what will they do now without SD6" and they've got Sloane up to something else...amazing...yet completely unexpected

O.M.G. We watched it too. Was that the best?! I can't wait to see where they go with this storyline.
Posted by Camille at January 27, 2003 09:49 PM
We had to tape it and watch it last night because the SuperBowl ran so long. Man, what a freakin' show! I sat there reeling for a good 30 minutes. I cannot believe that one chickie is dead. (I'm not naming names, so as not to spoil it for anyone.) I can't believe Marshall and Dixon... what's going to happen to them? Sark and Sloane... Sheesh. It's just nuts. I'm scared to see what the season finale cliffhanger will be like if this is a regular show.

My in-laws have that game and it is much harder to play then rollercoaster tycoon. We were foreva starving the animals because they would not eat. I think it's some kind of stress level they are experiencing.. but I'm no zoo keeper! LOL
Posted by susan at January 26, 2003 05:50 PM
I am just a random visitor, but I was once addicted to...oh who am I kidding! I am addicted to Zoo Tycoon. I've been playing it for 2 months and I still can't figure out the point of the game if the animals are *never* happy. I've found that you need precise placement of the entrance or the zookeepers cannot get in the entrance (I still have no idea what exactly causes it, I think it is a bug because there is nothing in the gate's way), also while putting little islands in the water looks pretty, it makes for disaster later (the zookeepers cannot clean the poo off of it). I've only been able to keep my animals happy after spending thousands on their exhibit and making them mate (only to sell the original animals once the offspring give me a male and a female). I suppose I could have spared this whole paragraph by just saying the animals are incredibly (and that is an understatement) picky about their habitat. I can't even turn a profit (even with selling older animals) without charging my guests 100 dollars per ticket. With all the complaints I still play it because I think it is laced with some form of addictive psychological drug. At least unlike my other 'addiction'(The Sims) the animals don't actually whine audibly. I am sorry this doesn't help. I just hope you experienced these things too otherwise I think I am going mad.
