Rock You Like a Hurricane
It's starting to look a little dark outside, boys and girls. Rita's on her way.
Latest predictions is that she's going to hit the Freeport area, so Houston and Galveston may be spared much in the damage/wind/rain arena. That would be nice.
I've showered, had dinner, and I've got my car under the carport over at my aunt's house next door, so I guess that's as prepared as I can be.
Lots of bloggers are staying in town (Sat, Jay, Emily, Elaine, and Hanna to name a few), so send us all good thougths. We definitely appreciate them.

So? How did you guys do? I hope you didn't have too much damage over there!

We all are praying for you, people. I have few friends living in USA.
Nature is kinda crazy: I just had an earthquake almost half an hour: 1 minute and a half: very long.

Not the Kind of Rita I Like
Okay, I'm starting to freak out a little about Hurricane Rita. It's really freaking big and it's going to hit around the Freeport area, best guess as of now.
I live in Spring, about ten minutes from Intercontinental Airport, so I think we're far enough away that nothing too big is going to happen to us, though I'm sure we're going to lose electricity and get a lot of rain.
Anyway, keep all of us in your thoughts that everything will be okay for us in Rita's path.

I lived in Lake Jackson (near Freeport) for a few years as a kid... scary stuff. You, Christine and so many other bloggers are on my mind tonight.

Have you seen channel 2? With the estimates of 100-120 mph wind by the time the storm gets to our side of town?
Yeah, when it is this big, I don't think there is such a thing as "far enough away". If your house is built up to code, it should be fine - but I was told today (by someone in the house-building industry) that 80mph can take a roof of a house.
I wouldn't panic, but I would definitely prepare. I think you normally park your car outside - you might want to find a place where you can get it indoors and out of harms way.

Good luck. I have to agree with there is no such thing as "far enough away" with this storm. Even with Katrina in Ohio we had some flooding, although at least it was limited and in expected areas.

Stay safe and dry! And you can always get out of Dodge and come to Philly a few weeks early. *grin*

We're sticking it out too...and now we couldn't go anywhere anyway - the roads are just parking lots and I don't want to get caught there.
Stay Safe!
