Blast 'Em Away!

Christine blogging for Kymberlie here - she is in the hospital again for kidney stones. It might be a leftover stone from last summer at my wedding when she had three, since this one is reportedly really HUGE. They will be doing the surgery to blast it away, but no word yet on when. It might be tonight or tomorrow, and I'm not sure if they will be keeping her afterwards.

Send her some positive thoughts, she could really use them right now!

It's Official! I'm the Newest Six Apart Employee!

Late last November, I had blogged that, after a long period of unemployment, it was looking like I was finally going to get a job.

At the time, I was interviewing with a company located further away than I really wanted to drive (for those of you familiar with Houston, I live in Spring and the job was at Bellaire and the Beltway), doing pretty basic web stuff - things that I had done when I first got into web development. The company seemed kind of cool, though, and there seemed to be room to grow, so I was interested.

Then, the most incredible thing happened. I got an e-mail from Brenna asking me to join the Movable Type Support Team. Not only did they want me to work on blogs (Getting paid to work on blogs! It's like a geek's dream come true!), I would get to do it from home.

Since I've been contract and not an official member, I haven't blogged about working for Six Apart, but today I got my offer letter and I am officially the newest Six Apart employee!

I've been really excited, learning a lot, and even making the customer's extremely happy. For a geek like me (especially one that always wants to be geekier), this has been pretty close to the perfect job.

I feel extremely lucky to have found this job and want to thank Kristine for suggesting me, Brenna for being an awesome boss, and especially Shelley for taking me under her wing and teaching me so much. You are all awesome, incredily talented women and it's truly a privilege to be working with y'all and with Six Apart.

GreenZap = Free Cash!

This summer, PayPal is going to be experiencing a little competition from this new site, GreenZap.

I remember signing up for PayPal back in the day and getting $5 to join. Well, GreenZap is giving everyone who preregisters $25. That's $25, to you, for free, just for signing up. No banking information is even required.

I figured it can't hurt, so why don't you go sign up too? After all, who can't use another $25? Well, besides Bill Gates and Donald Trump and I doubt they read me anyway.

Flickr Surprise

Thanks to a kind soul, I received a Flickr Pro account about a month ago.

Today, I received even more Flick goodness, which is perfect timing since I just uploaded almost two hundred pictures and finally broke down and bought a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P200 digital camera in red which should arrive tomorrow (Wheeeee!).

The surprise is that for all Pro users, Flick has doubled the upload amount to 2 GB, doubled how long your Pro status is good for, and given each person two free Pro accounts to give away.

How sweet is that? You can guarantee that Red and I will be taking full advantage of all that extra space.

Now, what to do with those gift accounts? Maybe I should give them away to anyone who completes all three offers for me.

Blingo Search Tip

Several of y'all have signed up under me at Blingo, the new Google-based search engine that gives out prizes to random searchers.

I had noticed in their FAQ that you can only win two prizes a month (shame it's only two, but it's still two more than I would have had without them!). I wondered if you won a prize that you didn't really want, like a movie ticket (which five of my referrals have already won; way to go!), and chose not to claim it, would it count against your prize quota. They said no, it doesn't count, so you might want to keep this in mind when you win something.

If you're not already a member, what are you waiting on?

Movable Type 3.16

Six Apart has just announced that the latest version of Movable Type, 3.16, is now available.

Significant improvements to application security and over one hundred other fixes have been made, so this is definitely an upgrade you should make, no matter what version you're running.

Movable Type rocks!
