First an iPod, Now a TV...

I was looking around the Net for some FreeiPod.com success stories (and I found quite a few of them) when I ran across FreeFlatScreens.com. It's run by the same people and has the same basic rules (sign up for an offer and then get eight people to do the same).

Since the iPod offer seems legit, I signed up for FreeFlatScreens.com too.

I know a flat screen TV would look nice in my house, so if you want one too, go sign up.

Do not post your own referrals links here! I will delete them. If you want your link added, go here and follow the instructions.

When Night Falls by Linda Anderson

When Night Falls by Linda Anderson: a thriller set deep in the mountains of North Carolina.

Lannie Sullivan lives alone, seculed in a hidden cabin atop a mountain. Two years earlier, her young daughter drowned in the swimming pool. Her ex-husband blamed her, and after their bitter divorce, she fled her life to live alone. Slowly, though, she has begun to seek out the company of others and meets Drummond Rutledge, a timber baron with secrets in his own past.

Drum and Lannie have an instant attraction for each other and begin a passionate affair. However, a convicted rapist has been let out of jail who is obsessed with Lannie and putting into place a plan to make her his.

For the most part, I didn't really like this book. It wasn't until I was on a plane and didn't have anything else to do that I even managed to finish it. The romance between Drum and Lannie seemed just too sudden. Jeb, the rapist obsessed with Lannie, also seemed like your typical run-of-the-mill crazy, though his ploy to get near Lannie was pretty ingenious. I did like the dark secret that Drum's past held and I found myself liking the book more by the time I got to the end. However, I would really only suggest this one if you've got absolutely nothing else around to read.

I Don't Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson

I Don't Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson: a novel about the life of Kate Reddy, a British working mother.

When we first meet Kate Reddy, she's in her kitchen at 1:37 a.m. distressing mince pies for her daughter's Christmas party at school so that they will look homemade. Kate is a hedge-fund manager, one of the best in her office. She's also the mother of two children, Emily and Ben, whom she hardly ever gets to see. She has a lovely husband, Richard, whom she also never sees.

Her days are measured by seconds and each one of them is used in the most efficient manner possible. She tries to be the best mother, wife, and employee, but things are starting to give.

I really enjoyed Allison Pearson's novel for many reasons. First of all, I liked Kate. I wanted her to be happy and spend some time on herself and have a peaceful life. Secondly, Pearson's writing style was just beautiful. It walked the line between funny and poignant while making us really care about Kate and her family. While I'm not a mother, I still sympathized with Kate and would highly recommend this one, especially to all the working mothers out there.

Free iPod Update

I've completed my offer (made a new eBay account) and had a few people sign up under me over at FreeiPod.com, but I still need people to complete their offers.

Update: Looks like they took down the offer to create a new account at eBay. The best offers in my opinion are buying $20 worth of stuff from PetCareRX (they even have free shipping) or if you don't have a pet, doing the free trial from RealRhapsody. You have to have a credit card to sign up, but if you cancel before the two week trial ends, you don't get charged.

You know you want to help me win an iPod, don't you? So, go sign up already.

Update: I received my free iPod on October 5, 2004 (view the evidence here), so I'm going to steal a page from Christine's book and make a post where I put up the links for people who still need referrers. If you're looking to sign up, please go here. Do not post your own referral links here. I will delete them.

Back From Vegas (and I'm Engaged)

I actually have been back from Vegas since really early Wednesday morning (got to the airport at around 1:30 a.m., got back to Christine's house to get my car, and then back home around 3:00 a.m.), but I've been pretty freaking tired and sore ever since.

I headed over to Christine's house after Tiara Happy Hour on Saturday night (which, as always, was a blast) and pretty much just stayed up with an exception of a twenty minute nap on the couch while Mike played on the computer. We got to the airport, caught our flight, and made it to Vegas pretty early. We then set out to see the Hoover Dam (btw, lots of pictures of the Dam and other Vegas fun up over in my moblog), which was really cool. Well, actually it was 116 degrees outside, so it was hot, but the dam was cool.

The rest of the trip was spent having lots of fun and drinking lots of alcohol. We saw Cirque Du Soleil's "O" at The Bellagio (I'd seen it before, but loved it just as much this time), I had a frozen (Frozen! Why did I never think of having one of these frozen before?) sour apple martini that was delicious for dinner one night, we saw the hysterically bad "Sirens of TI" (Who knew that every pirate battle ended with the phrase, "Yo, DJ! Kick it!"), drank a delicious Tangerine Octane (a frozen tangerine drink with vodka) out of a huge cup which we then carried with us down the Strip, bitched about how dumb "TI" sounds instead of Treasure Island, rode the roller coaster at New York, New York (twice), enjoyed frozen drinks (mine was a blue pina colada) with fuzzy palm tree and flamingo twizzle sticks in them made my a bartender that had all of Tom Cruise's moves from Coctail, and ate at the delicious Bellagio buffet.

The night we went down the Strip, Tangerine Octanes in hand, we were headed to watch the Fountains at Bellagio. I always find them so beautiful and they make me cry, especially if I'm a little tipsy. Christine was so moved by my tears, the lovely fountains, and the Eiffel Tower right behind us that she dropped down on one knee and asked me to marry her. I, of course, said yes and we spent the rest of the trip letting everyone know that we'd just gotten engaged. Good thing Mike is okay with his wife having a wife!

All in all, it was another great Vegas trip (my sixth, I believe) and I can't wait to go back again.

Happy Birthday, Mikey!

Today just happens to be the birthday of one of the coolest bloggers that I almost met (silly boy overslept and missed meeting me in the Bellagio card room in Vegas a few years ago. Nothing like standing in a card room in a tight Windows blue screen of death t-shirt smiling at every guy that might be him to make you feel like a hooker). Anyway, happy birthday Mikey, you freak.

Free iPod For Me?

I actually signed up for FreeiPods.com before it started making its way around the blog world, but, silly me, never posted about it.

I still need people to sign up under me, so feel free to sign up here if you haven't yet. If I get a free iPod, I'll put my referrers name into a hat and buy one of them something off of their Amazon wishlist.

Come on. You know you want to help me get an iPod. Pretty please?

Update: I received my free iPod on October 5, 2004 (view the evidence here), so I'm going to steal a page from Christine's book and make a post where I put up the links for people who still need referrers. If you're looking to sign up, please go here. Do not post your own referral links here. I will delete them.
