Gwyneth Paltrow has named her new baby daughter Apple. All I can say is poor thing. Seriously, who names their daughter after a piece of fruit?

Or it's after the computer company. My brother got away with naming his dughter Mackenzie - Mac for short (yes, he's a Mac user). His wife refused to let him name their new son Gibson however (you guessed it - he plays guitar)

What IS it with people who give their kids stupid names?
Money or no...it is hard enough to be a kid, especially when it's time to start school. Being saddled with a stupid name just makes it all the more harder.
Too many Hollywood celebs see baby = fashion accessory. They seem to think it's cute to give it some dumb, trendy sort of name.
I also read an article in which Gwynnie is bashing working moms. Well...must be nice to be rich enough to be able to stay at home. But many parents can't afford that luxury.

Hi. Just wanted to note that if she puts an 'i' at the end of her name, she can be an Apple Martini! HA! I crack myself up.

I've seen alot of women out there who invented new names for their child that aren't common, they dont' get critized for that. COuld it be the reason she named her daughter Apple because she liked that name? like some of you named your child with a new name because you liked it? there is nothing wrong wtih finding a new name for your child that you happen to like the sound of that name. you need to stop thinking of that name as a fruit, but a name istelf. Appreciate the name Apple as something new and acknowledge that it's somethign new. you're welcome to nam your child anything you want but please treat Gwynnie the same respect that you get for making up a new name for your child okay? Thank you.

Apple is one of the most stupid, ridiculous, goofiest baby names that I have ever heard or read about in my entire life. It is also mean to do this to a child because a child should have a serious, decent, and normal name. Think about how the child will be introducing themselves to people when they are at school (including trade school and/or college), applying for jobs, getting a driver's license, renting or buying a home, opening up bank accounts, voting, running for public office, serving on juries, investing in the stock market, socializing with people, shopping, etc. People need serious names for these activities so that people will treat them with respect. Your child won't be a baby for his or her entire life. A stupid, silly, goofy name that sounds cute or funny for a baby to have will not fit an older child, teenager, or an adult. Please don't set your child up for verbal abuse. Giving your child a goofy name like this will only make it easier for people to bully your child.
Girls seem to get dumb and weird names more often than boys do and I really think that this is a very bad type of sexism against girls and women. Almost everyone expects males to have serious names for their serious activities. Intelligent parents name their sons Robert, David, John, James, Jared, Jonathan, Joseph, Steven, Paul, Phillip, Michael, Matthew, Andrew, Anthony, Benjamin, William, etc. So why on earth do females have to be stuck with stupid names when women are now doing the same serious activities that males are doing? What is wrong with normal names like Catherine, Patricia, Sarah, Stephanie, Lynn, Angela, Andrea, Mary, Maria, Teresa, Elizabeth, Elaine, Rachel, Rebecca, Christine or Deborah for your daughter?
I used to think that Gwynneth Paltrow was a smart normal woman. Because of what she has named her baby daughter, I now think that she and her boyfriend are a couple of idiots.

Are there not more important things to worry about than what someone, anyone has named their child?

I think what we're discussing here is the abstract idea of naming your kid a word that normally isn't a name. The ABC's of naming are basically this: you can't go too common, and you can't go too weird. And Gwyneth here has obviously done something weird here. This isn't good for her kid, and it isn't good for the English language.
