Fuck Those Dudes

Joelle's new life motto is so appropriate to my situation with Yahoo!. Fuck those dudes.

Yafuckinghoo

I went online today to pay my credit card bill and was puzzled by a charge of $173.25 from Yahoo! Geocities. I called Yahoo! and apparently, despite them not even having a current credit card, they've been charging me for hosting for my old Geocities site that I don't even think has been updated in four years. When I signed up for Yahoo! Personals this month and updated my billing information they hit me for the last thirty-five months of hosting.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me that since I hadn't actually cancelled the service (and who knows if I did or not? It's been three freaking years!), they've continued to bill and tough shit, I have to pay it (paraphrasing here, but he was an unhelpful jackmonkey). I hung up on him and called my credit card company to dispute the charges. Their friendly customer rep said that Geocities was responsible for at least notifying me of the billing, so I hope I have a leg to stand on when fighting this charge. I certainly don't want to pay $200 for a website that has animated gifs and embedded midi files everywhere. Jackmonkeys.

Mnemonic Devices

Last night while at Christine's house, the original version of Trivial Pursuit came up. I was thinking about it on my way home and was pretty sure that it was called the Genus Edition (it was). That made me think of genus species (the name that all creatures have to identify them; humans are Homo sapiens, you know) and I flashed back to freshman honors biology with Mr. Borg. I remember having to know stuff like that for tests and it made me wonder if I could remember the entire nomenclature. Suddenly the phrase King Phillip Comes Over For Good Sex (we learned it as Spaghetti, but being high school kids, changed it to sex) and I knew it was kingdom, phylum, class, order, genus, and species. Talk about a good mnemonic device! I remember that from almost fifteen years ago.

At the last Tiara Happy Hour, though, I was talking to Mac and a few other people (I think one of them was Natalie) about how Mr. Air Force had given me directions to meet him the first time which included north and west. I told him, "Hypothetically, let's say that one doesn't know which directions north and west are. What would that be with lefts and rights?" (Hey, I wasn't in the Air Force; I have no idea. I still have to make an L with my left hand to make sure I've got left and right correct despite having a genius level IQ.) That discussion brought up how, in third grade, our teacher taught us Never Eat Soggy Waffles (going clockwise) to remember which way the directions are. To this day I still think of it and that was twenty years ago or so.

Anyone else have any mnemonic devices they use?

Casa dela Big Pink Cookie

Last night, I called Christine to see what she was up to. She was out running errands, but readily agreed to me coming over to see her new house (which is just gorgeous and really huge, so I think I'll be moving in with her and Mike soon). I met her up at Best Buy and then we trekked over to Wal-Mart so she could get some plants and I could get some pantyhose. Of course, we both spent about $80 a piece, but who can go to Wal-Mart and only buy one thing?

We used to go to Wal-Mart a lot on our lunch breaks when we worked together, but we haven't shopped there together in about a year. Needless to say, we went through most of the store and had a good time shopping. We saw maroon bluebonnets (Who even knew there was such a thing? Of course, it immediately made me think of Mac), scary lingerie sets, and I found a really cute hat that I didn't buy since I couldn't figure out where the hell I could actually wear it.

While wandering past the games section, we saw the Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture DVD Game and decided that two people would be the perfect number for a game, so Christine threw it in the cart and we were off to her house.

She'd also stopped at the liquor store before I came over to buy margarita mix, salt, and tequila (grand total - $77), so after picking up some food at Sonic, it was time to make some margaritas. We ate and drank, watched some tv, and then it was Trivial Pursuit time. Since I am a fount of useless information, it came as no surprise to me that I won both games.

Turns out that Christine has the original Trivial Pursuit game in the blue box (I do too - somewhere) so I've challenged her to an original TP grudge match at some point. I rock at that game.

I finally got home at about 3:30 this morning, but the late night (and face it, I would have just been sitting up playing on the computer anyway) was well-worth it. Good times.

Audblog Question

Let's say, hypothetically, that one was Audblogging from a bar and that one has had a lot to drink and the place is really loud, so it's almost an impossibility to understand the directions on how to post. When you login to the site, you can view that you have posts from that evening, but clicking on them gives you an "object not found" error. Is there any way to ever get those to post or are they just lost for good?
