Toronto Happy Hour
Last night's Toronto Happy Hour to welcome Rannie and Jay to Houston was simply fabulous. I got to see a lot of old friends (Christine, Mike, Matt, Kathy, Elaine, Angela, Emily, and Katie) and meet a lot of new ones (Gil, girl and guy from Heterophobic, Pat and her sister Carmen, Irfan, Julie, and a few others that I'm blanking on URLs for right now).
It was so wonderful to finally meet Rannie and Jay after reading their blogs for so long. Rannie was just like I thought he would be and Jay was fabulous as well. He even helped me scout out cute guys. What a guy, huh?
Emily and I, of course, did our requisite shot at the bar so that we could flirt with Josh, the hunky bartender. She was then a good enough pal to go with me to the table of this adorable Canadian who was having dinner by himself and pretend to get a page so I could chat him up for a bit by myself. Shame he wasn't local; he was damn cute.
Carmen and I talked forever about stuff. She is just too fun and must be indoctrinated into the ways of blogging soon. She'd be a hoot to read. In the meantime, check out Pat instead. What fun girls!
In case I haven't mentioned it before, I just adore Matt. He has got to be one of the greatest guys that I know. The contacts look great too, btw, Matt.
As always, these H-Town get togethers are just too much fun. I'm glad I finally broke out of my shell and started going to these things. If you live in a big city (or even if you don't), you really ought to look into organizing a chapter of your own local bloggers. Bloggers are more than just geeks; we're fun, social geeks. ;-)

I'm so glad you came out! It was quite a good time having everyone there!

It was great meeting you! You rock!

Okay, you now have me offically jealous. These get togethers do sound like a complete blast, fun enough for me to want to start a local chapter in my own little (Big?) town, Detroit Rock City.
Maybe one day, MotownBlogs will exist...see if there are any Detroiters out there blogging.

Blogging From The Saucer
I'm up at The Flying Saucer in downtown hanging with lots of cool H-Town bloggers and the two fabulous Canadian bloggers Rannie and Jay. I love geeky people that have laptops on the ready so that we can take advantage of the wifi and blog. Having a wonderful time; wish you were here!

As geeky as it sounds, it was very cool to see a couple of laptops being used to blog on the couches.

Spooky
I've had about $200 worth of Amazon gift certificates just sitting around, so I figured I'd get myself a nice birthday gift (my birthday is only a week away. I'm going to be twenty-nine, the last year to be a 20-something. Very strange feeling). I ordered Crossed Bones by Carolyn Haines (excellent book, I just finished it this afternoon; review to show up on BiblioBlog later), The Journals of Eleanor Druse: My Investigation of the Kingdom Hospital Incident, Tales of a Librarian: A Tori Amos Collection with bonus DVD, Everquest: Gates of Discord Expansion Pack, EverQuest: Lost Dungeons of Norrath Expansion Pack, and The Mothman Prophecies soundtrack.
I've been listening to The Mothman Prophecies soundtrack almost non-stop since I've gotten it because it is simply that good. However, it's beginning to freak me out. The music is very creepy (especially the second CD consisting of the movie's score) and listening to it alone, especially at night, makes me think back to how much the movie freaked me out and then I start to scare myself (just a little bit, though; I'm not that big a wuss).
Anyway, I guess there's no real point to this rambling post, but has any piece of music or CD done the same to you? Or am I really a wuss?

I cannot listen to "Tubular Bells" without getting a chill down my neck. But then that's probably the case for just about anyone who's seen "The Exorcist."
BTW, Kymberlie, happy-almost-birthday! I turn 42 on the 19th. Now THAT'S scary!!

I can't listen to the song Half Light on that soundtrack without getting completely creeped out. that movie scared the crap out of me!
Posted by girl at March 12, 2004 12:04 PM
i saw The Mothman Prophecies on cable and that is a creepy movie... i'm sure listening to the soundtrack just makes it all the more "real."

Master Grammarians Unite
I did almost major in English after all...
You are the grammar Fuhrer. All bow to your authority. You will crush all the inferior people under the soles of your jackboots, and any who question your motives will be eliminated. Your punishment is being the bane of every other person's existence, because you're constantly contradicting stupidity. Everyone will be gunning for you. Your dreams of a master race of spellers and grammarians frighten the masses. You must always watch your back. If only your power could be used for good instead of evil.
What is your grammar aptitude? brought to you by Quizilla

I wasn't sure I wanted to look at his picture on my blog, though. :giggle:

dude, i'm a fuhrer too.
what are the odds that whoever came up with that quiz hates people with good grammar? man, i don't wanna be a Hitler...
Posted by mikey at March 8, 2004 05:05 AM
I'm right there with ya!
Posted by smoores at March 8, 2004 11:25 AM
I took the quiz and learned that I too am a liguistic Fuhrer. But then, after seeing everyone's comments, I took it again chosing the wrong answers and was given the results of:
"You are a grammar Failure. You will be the first to be thrown in the ovens. The world is a better place without you."
Yikes! I wonder if Mel Brooks took this exam.

Fuhrer for me too. I also answered incorrectly to see the other possible answers. It's not pretty.

Bad grammar will get you nowhere. ;)
(Damn, that still cracks me up...)
Posted by Christine at March 11, 2004 12:50 AM
Another Fuhrer here!!!!
Posted by MishMish at March 11, 2004 03:22 PM
another grammar Fuhrer here as well. but I think a goat could have taken that quiz and gotten them correct. unless people are a lot dumber than I think they are.
Posted by girl at March 12, 2004 12:10 PM
I got the same thing. which is odd. plus - those questions were more about spelling that grammar, really.
