Ibocea the Paladin
So, remember me mentioning that I had finally decided to play EverQuest? I was going to be a human monk, but after talking to Brian (my manager; we're going to be duoing together in the game), we have revised our initial strategy of my being the ass-beating, fists of fury monk and he being the healer shaman. We are now going to be a paladin (human knight, basically, aligned with good) and he's going to be a shadow knight. It's almost like we're going to be the different halves of the same coin. Last night one of the programmers in our office gave us amazing, very rare, weapons and armor, so I'm ready to start powering up and catch up with Brian, who's already level 23. My name in the game is Ibocea and I'm right outside of West Freeport, so if you play, stop by and say hi.

Whooo, enjoy! I'm an avid CRPG-er myself, but I never tried EQ. Too damn addictive, from what I heard. ;) Which doesn't mean I don't want to give it a go! Someday! :)

Give up Everquest now. Please.

and
To quote from another article:
A St. Petersburg Times story this morning claimed Bragg had assaulted the child and left him to die because he was interfering with Bragg's enjoyment of the popular online computer game, but lawyers on both sides emphasize EverQuest was a minor factor, at most.
Prosecutor Suzanne Rossomondo agreed the game only played a small role. "It had some involvement, but more important was [Bragg's] temper and lack of patience. His neglect of the child was only brought to a head because of the game."

Lunch With My Parents
I was supposed to meet a friend today, but the weather on her side of town is so bad that we decided to try and meet tomorrow instead. So, I called my mom, and I'm meeting her and Dad for lunch. :-) I haven't seen them in a while (despite the fact that I talk to my mom on the phone every day and only live about twenty minutes away; I am such a bad daughter!), so it will be nice to see them.

It doesn't work for me, so I can't say if it does this or not, but if possible wouldn't it be more semantically meaning full to use STRONG instead of B and EM instead of I? Just a thought.

Discovery Friday 102402
It's Friday, so that means time for another edition of Discovery Friday!
.: Book of Days - Kristine alerted me to this new site. It is simply gorgeous (take a look at her Exposures section; I love the image of the beaded curtain) and I look forward to reading her site.
.: Dandelion Wine - I love the domain name of this site and the new Halloween skin is beautiful. Really makes me wish I would have thought about doing one for the holiday. Maybe next year.
.: Gratuitous Sax and Senseless Violins - a sharp wit, sexy pin-up girls, and an invitive blog title are only a few of the reasons to visit. She also runs Skittish Sims where you can see tons of bloggers turned into Sims characters. Very cool.
.: Joy Unspeakable - I decided to visit this blog after seeing its name pop up time and time again in Name That Blog and I'm very glad I did. Cheryl is a very sweet person and I wanted to let her know, that even though I haven't left many comments, my thoughts have been with her.
.: Miz Jeanna - not only does she have a new lovely, simple design up to complement her wonderful blogging, she also runs the Blog Ornament Exchange 2002, which you can sign up for until October 31st. There are already ninety-three participants, so go sign up so we can make it to 100 participants.

Rest In Peace, Arnold
I came home from work tonight and, despite Steven's best efforts, Arnold was dead. We figured he wasn't going to make it since he wouldn't eat, even though he actually looked better. I wanted to thank everyone that sent me an e-mail or left a comment. I know Steven is going to take this pretty hard and I really appreciate all of your support. I know he was just a fish, but we've had him almost as long as we've been together.

EverQuest Naming
So, after trying to not be sucked into the vortex known as EverQuest, I gave in and bought the Trilogy software, The Shadows of Luclin, and a 90 day pre-paid card. My manager and I are going to be playing as a team and it looks like I'm going to be a female human monk and he's going to be a male wood elf shaman since it's a good duo. I've been trying to come up with a name tonight so I can start playing tomorrow. I visited one of those fantasy name generators (so I'm not all that creative some times; sue me) and came up with a list of about twenty that I liked. I thought I'd ask you which ones you like or dislike. Feel free to mix and match names and come up with new ones.

Choressa or Alilindra, no reason.
Posted by photomatt at October 24, 2002 07:40 AM
Kaelinna or Kaelanna look good to me. That's mainly because so often in those games your name gets shortened to the first three or four letters by other people, and I like the look of Kae. Arilanna and Alilindra are nice too for the same reason. I hope you have fun with EQ. I've really enjoyed it.
Posted by Brandy W. at October 24, 2002 05:19 PM
I like Arilana. It's the one that seems most like a real name to me, and not one pieced together. Sort of combining two others, I came up with Lirathiel. Or just Liriel.

Litterbox Problems? Here's Some Solutions.
The other night Steven gave me an ultimatum regarding Bella - she had until the end of November to become litterbox trained or she was going to have to find a new home. We've had her now for over two and a half months and she's peed in a few places dozens of times.
Since I love my kittles and don't want to get rid of her, I did some scouring around the Net and found some excellent resources. Based on articles that I read, we put a second litterbox upstairs and used citrus smelling carpet deodorizer on places we didn't want her to pee.
As soon as Steven set the second litterbox up and moved it upstairs near my side of the my bed (a place she's particularly fond of peeing on), we took her upstairs. We placed her in the box, praised her, petted on her, and made a fuss about her, giving her a kitty treat to eat. We backed off and Steven went downstairs. I moved to the end of the bed and watched, with amazement, as she climbed back in the box and peed! I called for Steven and we fussed over her and gave her two more little treats to eat.
Later on, Steven went to the bathroom where we keep her during the day to play with her. The articles said to play with her and pet her in there so she doesn't feel like it's a punishment to be put in there. He looked over, and lo and behold!, she'd actually already pooped in the box down here!
Tonight she went upstairs and I waited a little bit and followed her up there to see what she was doing. She was in the box, but me showing up with cat treats was enough to distract her from doing her business. I told her she was a good girl for getting in her box and gave her a treat anyway so that she'll associate getting in the box with positive reinforcement. I went upstairs later and she'd gotten back in and done her business.
Last night and tonight she actually seemed to be happier too, though that might sound funny. She was a lot less skittish than she'd been the past few weeks and wanted to be played with and cuddled with a lot more. All the articles said that the was probably stressed over the fact that she felt like she had to use the floor to pee, so not only are we going to be happier now that she's using the box, she is too. I hate to say after only a few days that we've solved the litterbox problem, but she's three for three on using the box. Steven and I are both crossing our fingers that now she'll continue to use her box.
If you're having the same problem we were, here's some of the links that I found particularly helpful. Also, Cats International welcomes both mail and phone calls to help you with your feline problems, free of charge. They had a wonderful mission statement and I will probably make them one of the charities that I donate to.

My kitty was having an issue with going in the right place. She was jumping in the bathtub. (Gross, but easier to clean than carpet!) We have had luck with using a green apple candle and spray (from Glade or Wizard) in the bathroom.
I'll be crossing my fingers for all of you!
Posted by zuly at October 24, 2002 08:32 PM
wow, that is great. i am going to have to try that with nova kitty as she likes to pee and poop right outside the box. literally within inches.

What skin are you seeing that one? I had the newer blue-ish teal one, and can see them, but I changed to the picture fish icon one and don't see the words.
I checked that stylesheet and in the body, you have this:
COLOR: #ffffff;
So anything that's not defined will be white, on a white background. If you change that to #000000, you'll have better luck!! :)

MT hacks: Individual Entry and Trackback
After much mucking about, my individual archives now reflect trackbacks both sent and received like Kristine and Robyn's sites do. I still have a bit of tweaking to do on the main template so everything links to the right place, but it the code should be in place now. Textism's Referral Script
Robyn found the coolest referral script yesterday and I finally had a chance to install it to my blog today and I love it. It records where people came from and where they went when they left you. I messed around with it a bit and added a date stamp and I might make it skinnable later (it does work with skins, but I have to go through and mess with the CSS to make it look right). You can learn how to install the script here. Props to my homie on the east coast for finding such a cool little script!

Arnold...
Our fish Arnold, that we've had for at least three years who got the name Arnold because he is indestructible like the Terminator, is really sick. He was fine this morning and when I came home tonight he was at the top of the tank, belly side up, with a lot of red coloring to his face and fins and a red spot on his stomach. It looks like a bacterial infection, and I am praying that we caught it early enough to treat. Steven just loves him and I know he's really upset. If it's not asking too much, can you send some good thoughts my fishy's way? I know most people don't think of fish as real pets, but this guy means a lot to us.

I hope that Arnold feel better very soon. I know how you feel about your fish, as I have a beautiful red Beta that my son got me two years ago for my birthday. This-or-That Tuesday
Christine's out of town this week, so Amancay is doing this week's This-or-That.
- The Cosby Show or A Different World?
The Cosby Show was way better though I did watch A Different World for a while.
- Happy Days or Joanie Loves Chachi?
I really liked Happy Days and I never saw an episode of Joanie Loves Chachi, so Happy Days.
- Cheers or Frasier?
Cheers was a great show, but I just adore Frasier. The whole cast is just so funny, especially Frasier and Niles.
- Beverly Hills, 90210 or Melrose Place?
I never watched Melrose Place and I used to love 90210, so 90210 it is.
- Real World or Road Rules?
I've only seen a few of the Real Worlds, but I used to get sucked into one of the marathons if I happened to pass by it. Never saw a Road Rules.
- Law & Order: SVU or CI?
Haven't seen either of them.
- The Osbournes or The Anna Nicole Show?
Haven't seen either of these.
- Diff'rent Strokes or The Facts of Life?
I used to watch both of them, but I liked The Facts of Life better.
- VeggieTales or 321 Penguins!?
Haven't seen either of these two.
- Degrassi or Degrassi: the Next Generation?
Man! Fourth question where I hadn't seen either show!

Kabana Jewelry
I've been thinking about what I want from Steven this year for Christmas and it occured to me that besides my class ring, I don't have a single piece of jewelry that's not costume. I was reading blogs and someone had a link to Kabana Jewelry. I requested a catalog, but neither it nor the website actually have prices. I assume that since prices aren't displayed and they use expensive stones like tanzanite, that's it's probably pretty pricey. They don't have a location here in Houston, but I was wondering if anyone has seen there stuff in real life and have an idea of their cost.

Isn't Kabana the most beautiful jewelry you have ever seen? I'm currently in the market for a piece for my wife, and yes it is extremely pricy. If you'd like to see prices go to billbarnes.com. He has an entire collection of Kabana. But I have found that if you don't want to spend a fortune, there are other sites that sell "Kabana like" jewelry for a fraction of the cost. Just do a search for tanzanite opal inlay and surf the web! Good luck!

The Jewelry at Kabana is so beautiful and unique! When I walked into the store I thought to myself this is the most beautiful Jewelry I had ever seen. I had worked in Jewelry stores before, but never like this one. I work at the Plano, Texas store and the Jewelry is so well made and a nice addition to any collection of Jewelry that you have. If you have any questions about the jewely you can call our store at (972)202-8365, we do take phone orders and ship directly to you. So any piece that you see in the booklet or on the internet we can give you prices for. My name is Lynn Cooper and I would be happy to assist you in finding any piece that you want!!

for those looking for the kabana fish line there is a GREAT store in destin, FL that is an autorized dealer. i go there ever year when i visit to pick something out. i'll list the name and # at the end. the earings start out at about less than 100 and go up to the moon. rings, braclets, pins, necklaces, they have it all. they also have a new line out of 'footwear' in the enameled look. i can't really find too much info on the web about them as far as seeing the lines. but i will keep looking. good luck to those hunting still. the FL store is called 'Gold -n- Elegance' 850-650-6240

Kabana is the light of my life, love the stuff

Yes, Kabana is truly the "king of inlay". We've been carrying their jewelry for years, and have been extremely satisfied with not only the quality of their products, but also the quality of their people. Great customer service.

Maybe I shouldn't be saying this on the web but I was given a gift from my Mother in Law, the Rose Gold Ring with Pink Mother of Pearl Inlay and Diamonds 14K Rose gold ring with pink mother of pearl inlay and 0.24 carats (total weight) of diamonds AT HALF PRICE!
A boutique family-owned jeweler in a small town happens to sell it and is trying to get rid of the rest of his stock. It not so popular in Zionsville Indiana, Call Robert Goodman Jewers re: Kaban Jewelry (317) 733-9170 I love mine! We were actually to do the same in white gold , which I were more of.
I think its gorgeous, it's unlike anything else I have.

To Do List 102102
It's been like a month since I've done a To Do List, but I did manage to eliminate a few big things from the last one that I had really wanted to do. Since I work best with lists, here's the newest batch of things I need to take care of.
To Do List
- Clean up my office at home
- Resize large files at Picture Fish
- Change my individual archives so they reflect trackbacks both sent and received like Kristine and Robyn do (as seen here at Scripty Goddess)
- E-mail Judith to see how she's doing
- E-mail Sheila
- E-mail Justin
- Buy the rest of Jeanna's birthday present
- Start thinking about Christmas gifts for everyone
- Fix my advanced search and last comments templates
- Start PolishIt.com
- Make a skin for Amancay
- Create a list of all of my DVDs
- Create a list of all the books I have bought, but have yet to read
- Make a skin for me out of the card that Jeanna sent me last year
- Make an exercise mp3 list for when I StairMaster
- Organize all my mp3s
- Get rid of all the p tags I have randomly interspersed through my code

oooh, maybe i'll compile a list of all the nail polish colors i own and post it to PolishIt when you've got that site up and running! what is so funny... is that i have so many colors at home but i prefer clear over every single one.

What do you mean about the random P tags? If it's consistent randomness, or even not, I might be able to write a regular expression to go through you code and fix it automatically.
For MP3s I use a neat tool called "Dr. Tag" which is great for messing with ID3 tags, though it sounds like you might be having more an organization rather than categorization problem.

I would say without even looking that I'm Fire. I'm intrigued enough to see what the survey says.

Amy Sedaris
I was watching a Tivod episode of Monk last night with Steven when I saw the name Amy Sedaris come across the credits. I wondered if she was related to David Sedaris and, sure enough, she's the sister Amy that gets mentioned in most of his stuff. If you've never read anything by him I highly recommend his essays and short stories, especially Holidays on Ice. The first story, about a man working in a Macy's as an elf at Christmas time is one of the funniest things I've ever read, especially if you ever worked in retail.

I love David Sedaris... and his whole crazy family. If you watch Sex and the City, Amy is the publisher that is not Molly Shannon. The blonde one.
Did you read David's piece about his brother's wedding in Esquire last month? Hysterical!

I recognize her from a couple of creepy episodes of "just shoot me".

Amy Sedaris as in Strangers with Candy? Funny, I saw that book at the store and wondered if he was related to her...
