Full of Grace, My Ass

You've probably heard that nursery rhyme poem, the one that goes, "Monday's child is fair of face. Tuesday's child is full of grace...." As you can guess, I was born on a Tuesday and it's an endless source of amusement to anyone who knows me because I am so not full of grace. I am always running into things and knocking stuff over.

Last night, we went over to a friend's house for dinner. Their next door neighbors are also friends of ours and since they just got a new pool installed (which was just gorgeous), we all went next door to see it. I was a little drunk and also carrying a two-year-old little girl who wanted to go see the swing on the other side of the pool. To get to the swing you have to walk this narrow ledge in front of the pool that is landscaped really nice, but it's done with rocks and grass, so not exactly the best surface to be walking on when you're drunk, holding a small child, and it's dark. After swinging a while, she wanted to go to the other side, so I pick her up and start back. While crossing the perilous walkway, I stumble and hurt my ankle.

It wasn't until we got home and I showed Steven that it became apparent that I sprained the hell out of it. It was all swollen and bruised and really began to hurt since my buzz was wearing off. Steven helped me up stairs, used a bandage to wrap some ice on my ankle, and gave me some ibuprofen and a pain pill.

When I woke up this morning it was still swollen, but not as bad. The ice pack is back on and I've taken some anti-inflammatory medicine. It kind of hurts, but nothing too bad. If it's still really swollen on Monday, I think I will be paying a visit to my doctor. Full of grace, my ass.

The Human Race

Hanna is walking next week in the the Holocaust Museum Houston's The Human Race. The goals of this walk are quite wonderful. They are:

If you have a few bucks to spare, could you go make a donation? She's a little over 50% there, but just a few people donating could help her make her goal.

Discovery Friday 101802

It's Friday, so that means time for another edition of Discovery Friday!

.: Bottled Voices - I love the simplicity of this site. The colors are minimilistic, but it's so effective. Plus, the writing is great.

.: My So Called Life - how could you not like a blog written by someone who calls herself GeekGrrl? She has a great blog, and not only that, just had a birthday and got engaged, so go send her some congratulations and belated birthday wishes.

.: Pizza Dreaming - I found Statia's site through Robyn's and I've read her for a while, so I guess it's time to finally link her. :-)

.: Wanderlost - I found Ste's site though Christine's comments. I loved the domain, so went and visited. Great writing and wonderful pictures in his galleries definitely make this site worth a visit.

.: Zuly's Zu - I just recently stumbled upon this site and I like what I've seen so far. She seems like such a sweet person and she's got a great Halloween design up.

Friday Five! Redux

I never got around to doing last week's Friday Five, even though the questions were really great. I figured what the hell, so I'm doing them now.

1. If you could only choose 1 cd to ever listen to again, what would it be? If we can say "Mix Tape," I choose that. :-) Otherwise, it's either going to be "Field of Gold," which is basically Sting's greatest hits, or "Little Earthquakes" by Tori Amos.

2. If you could only choose 2 movies to watch ever again, what would they be? "Singin' in the Rain" and "Monty Phython and the Quest for the Holy Grail."

3. If you could only choose 3 books to read ever again, what would they be? It by Stephen King, Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and all of King's The Dark Towers in one big book. :-)

4. If you could only choose 4 things to eat or drink ever again, what would they be? Cherry Coke, Lupe Tortilla's fajitas, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and baked potato with cheese, butter, and bacon bits.

5. If you could only choose 5 people to ever be/talk/associate/whatever with ever again, who would they be? Steven, Jeanna, my mother, Christine, and Trish.

Friday Five!

And now, time for today’s Friday Five!

1. How many TVs do you have in your home? We have two - one in the living room and one back here in the computer room.

2. On average, how much TV do you watch in a week? Before the Tivo, it was hardly any. Now, with a hacked Tivo that can hold 100 hours of shows, it's a lot. At least three hours at night.

3. Do you feel that television is bad for young children? I think it depends on the shows. For the most part, though, to have a kid watch tv all the time and not go outside and get some exercise, definitely.

4. What TV shows do you absolutely HAVE to watch, and if you miss them, you're heartbroken? It used to be The X-Files and Once and Again, but now with both of those cancelled, I guess I would say ER and 24, but I don't love any shows like I loved those.

5. If you had the power to create your own television network, what would your line-up look like? It would have new seasons of The X-Files and Once and Again.

Relax

I left work and came home and took a nice relaxing bubble bath since I've been feeling like shit all day long. I was so relaxing, in fact, that I feel asleep and only woke up because Steven came home to drop some stuff off before he went to poker. I'm now off to curl up on the couch with a bunch of Tivod programs and some Fruity Pebbles.

The Visitor

I had a visitor tonight while I StairMastered. I was puffing along, minding my own business, when suddenly Bella jumps from the back of my computer chair (where she had been watching me) onto the little tray that extends above the display. She sat up there for over ten minutes, gently rocking with my movements. I wonder if she'll start exercising with me every time.

Monday Mission 2.41

I haven't done the last few Monday Missions, so I decided to do yesterday's, even if it is late. So here's PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.41:

1. What's the most expensive meal you've ever eaten? What was the occasion? Was it worth it?
Steven and I went out with another couple to a South American food restaurant called Churrascos. We had appetizers, entrees, and deserts and the total was almost $200 for the four of us. We had had some kind of triple decker appetizer that was supposed to be on special and I think they charged us full price for each piece. While the food was good, it wasn't that good.

2. What do you like to do when nobody is looking?
Um, sit around the house naked, I guess.

3. What's your special purpose?
I have no idea. Just to be me, I suppose.

4. Do you like Autumn? If so, why? If not, tell me about your favorite season.
I like it in theory, but usually it gets too cold for me.

5. Ever recommended a movie to someone only to have them hate it? Which movie? Did you feel uncomfortable about that?
My brother hated The Big Lebowski which I thought he would really like. It didn't make me feel uncomfortable, though.

6. I've had hay fever all day! Sniffles, sneezing, I tell ya, it's awful! Do you have any allergies? Anything that just gets you down for the count?
Nope, no allergies here.

7. Do you like mixed drinks? What is your favorite? As long as we're here how about you order me something too? Just "suprise me!"
I love, love, love raspberry piña coladas. I'll get one for you too, while we're here.

BONUS: Why do we scream at each other?
This is what it sounds like
When doves cry.

Customer Service

Kelly has a rant about customer disservice on her website. I thought I would take a minute and mention the fine customer service that I received this week from Amazon.

I ordered a book for Steven almost a month ago (The Naked Chef Takes Off by Jaime Oliver) and it still hasn't shipped. I e-mailed their customer service to see if I could get an actual date for the shipment and received a very nice e-mail back explaining that the computer had somehow had messed it up so that the item wasn't coming up in their shipping computers, but that he had fixed it manually and would make sure that it shipped right away. Not only that, he included a $5.00 gift certificate for my trouble and concluded the letter by saying how he knew that they had screwed up and he hoped that they would allow me to prove in the future that they could meet my needs. I checked my order status and it appears that the book will ship tomorrow.

All in all, it was a great letter and included a little gift to help smooth the incident over. If all customer service requests went like this, I'm sure a lot more people would be happier with the retail and service industry.
