Blogs and Pets
It seems like most bloggers have pets and like to talk about them, post their pictures, whatever. Christine M. has created a site for people to share their pet's pictures - Blogs & Pets. I sent in some pictures of my fish and joined the webring. If you've got pets, why not go visit and join up?

Saturday Scruples
Time for Phoxxe's Saturday Scruples!
1. A land settlement gives First nation people thousands of square miles and millions of dollars. Someone has a petition opposing any giveaway. Do you sign it? Probably not. Restitutions are not necessarily a bad thing. I guess it would depend on the terms of the settlement.
2. At the beginning of a job interview the owner remarks: "You're the first white face I've seen all day." Later when you're offered the job, do you take it? I would take the job if I was incredibly broke, out of work, and needed the money, but I would be looking for another one while I worked there. If I wasn't broke and out of work, I wouldn't take it and I would probably report the guy. I could never work for someone who's a racist.
3. You find a crisp $20 folded on the floor of a small store. Two other customers are in the store. Do you pocket the bill? Probably. No idea how long it's been there and if those two people even dropped it. If one of them started looking around for something, though, I would see if it was the money and give it to them if it was.

More Gold Box Misses
More misses in the Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today. I don't have a yard since I live in a condo, so birdbaths aren't really very useful to me. I wonder why I got a filter and an ultrasonic pest repellent today. Seems odd things just to offer people. The stainless steel double wheel pizza cutter is kind of cool (Steven makes homemade pizza, so we could use this), but $16 sounds a little high for a pizza cutter. Oh well. I'll just pass on them all. When am I going to get something cool like a book, video game, or foot spa like Christine got?

Friday Five!
And now, time for today's Friday Five!
When was the last time I...
1. ...sent a handwritten letter? When I was going through a bad break-up in 1996, I wrote long letters to my friend John to help me get back on my feet and heal. They helped a lot. I have sent lots of cards with handwritten notes, though, some just a few months ago.
2. ...baked something from scratch or made something by hand? Um, never for the baking from scratch since I can't cook to save my life. As for making something by hand, I can't remember.
3. ...camped in a tent? Never. I am not an outdoors person.
4. ...volunteered your time to church, school, or community? Sadly, probably never.
5. ...helped a stranger? If you count things like charity, a few months ago I gave some money to Heifer International, probably my favorite charity.

Thursday Thumb-Twiddler
It's time for Dave's Thursday Thumb-Twiddler!
1. Would you rather die peacefully among friends at 50, or painfully and alone at 80? Assume that most of those thirty years would be "good" ones. That's kind of tough. Assuming that most of the thirty years in between would be good, I would say at 80.
2. Your teen arrives home one night with a big dent in his car fender. You find out the next day there was a hit-and-run in the neighborhood. Would you try to find out if your kid was involved? If you found out s/he was, would you notify the authorities? What if there was a death from the hit-and-run? I think I would have to. Otherwise the possibility that they were involved would hang over everything else for the rest of your life. Reporting them to the police, however, would be very difficult to do. I guess I might, though.
3. What would the title of your autobiography be (not including your name)? Easy. The Neurotic Fishbowl That Is My Life.

Thursday Threesome
Time for Deb's Thursday Threesome!
Onesome: Soak--Like a sponge, what class in school did you seem to absorb the easiest? English classes. I was three years advanced and I always made good grades in it.
Twosome: Up--What things always bring you up when you are down? Steven. Jeanna. Pictures of sweet little animals like this one. Certain songs. A good book. Winning a poker tournament.
Threesome: The Sun--Enjoy the sun? What's your favorite outdoor activity? I'm not much of an outdoors person, so I guess driving around on a nice day with the top down on my Miata.

I had a bad dream last night, too! Dreamt an entire episode of the Sopranos last night where everyone was just talking about their lives. In Tony Soprano's scene, he was driving down the highway and suddenly the World Trade Center came into view and were on fire and then collapsed.

I had another weirded out dream after I woke E up, too. How odd it is that we all are so freaked out right now. I wonder if its just the heat - I bet I don't need to ask if it was hot there last night!

Bad Start
Had dreams last night filled with imminent danger of attacks from unknown people while I was at an airport with my mother and trying to make sure she knows how much I love her and how important she is. I woke up with a killer headache and got to work only to find cryptic voicemails from my biggest client. This does not bode well for having a normal or pleasant day.

Thoughts of Steven Out of the Blue
For no reason today, I flashed back to when Steven and I first started dating. At the time, I was the secretary at the small actuarial firm where he was assistant vice president (he's a VP now). We started dating about six weeks after we met, but we kept it secret from every there except his best friend, another VP. I remembered today how we would end up in the library or the copy room and he would be giving me something to work on - a loan package, a letter to type, whatever. We kept it very professional in the office and I would look into his eyes and think, "Did I dream us up? Are we really together?" It was so strange being so close to someone, but yet having to keep that distance at the office. I don't know what really made me think of it today.

This-or-That Tuesday
Time for Christine's This-or-That Tuesday:
- Spam...the lunch meat. Yes or no?
Blah! No way!
- The traffic light is green as you approach, but by the time you get there, it has turned yellow. Stop or go-go-go?
Depends, but more than likely go-go-go. If you don't go in Texas, you'll get rear-ended.
- You are taking a trip...you have to decide whether to fly or take some sort of ground transportation. High or low?
High.
- Someone asks you a question about why something is, and you don't know the answer. Try to find out *Why* or just say *I don't know*?
Usually I try and find out why.
- You are at the mall, and you spot someone who tortured you when you were in high school. Hello or goodbye?
Probably goodbye. Why bother talking to them now?

Monday Mission 2.25
Here's PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.25:
1. Do you wear glasses/contact lenses? If so would you consider going through Lasik surgery? (Or if you already have, please tell us about it)
I wear contact lenses for the majority of the time and glasses at night or on the weekends around the house. I will have Lasik (or some similar surgery) by the time I am thirty. I hate wearing contact lenses and would love to wake up and be able to see.
2. Did you ever have to wear braces? How are your teeth? (any cavities, any pulled teeth, root canals, etc.)
I've never worn braces, though I think I may have to in the future. My bottom teeth are a little crooked, so I am planning on visiting a dentist this year to see about getting them straightened and whitened. I have about eight fillings.
3. What (if any) recent movies have moved you emotionally? Which one and how so?
Lately, I can't really think of any that have. That's sad, huh?
4. I visited my dear Mema in the managed care facility Sunday and while she is doing well, I was sad for her. Living out your final days/years someplace like that seems so lonely to me. Would you rather live the remainder of your golden years in a rest home, or pass away before it came to that?
Definitely pass away.
5. Sometimes, but not nearly often enough, I will just stop and marvel at the amazing planet on which we live. The eco-system, life and death, nature, the perfect balance that keeps us alive, the universe, it can all be mind-boggling if you let your mind get carried away. What natural creation or phenomenon just flat-out leaves you with a sense of wonder?
A few weeks ago I got to see a double rainbow. It was so beautiful. I also love how sunlight looks coming through clouds. It always makes me think of the divine.
6. Have you ever been in a fist fight or a situation where you had to get physically violent with someone else? How did that come about? Any consequences?
Aside from stuff with my brother when I was younger, not really.
7. Many times I look back in hindsight and think of how I should have handled a situation. Are there any recent happenings that you wish you would have handled differently? What happened and what do you wish you'd done?
Nothing that really comes to mind recently that I wish I would have done differently.
BONUS: How far away can you go, and still be dancing with me?
You know, this sounds really perverse.

Arizona - The State of Depression
Since I still haven't posted about my business trip to Arizona last week, I thought now would be a good time. :-)
The flight over was uneventful but kind of nice since one of the people on our row didn't show up. I had plenty of room to stretch out and take a nap, which was good.
When Krista, Christine, and I landed in Phoenix our first thought was, "OMG. This place is terrible! Where's the grass?" The part of Phoenix that we flew into was under construction and awful looking. I've lived my whole life around trees and lots of green plants, so venturing into the desert was quite a shock. It's about 150 miles to and I swear the only trees we saw were in a grove of some sort. Krista quipped that if it wasn't sunny we'd have killed ourselves by now and I took to calling it the state of depression instead of the state of Arizona.
We went straight into a meeting when we got to the health resort/spa place in Tucson at about 3:00 (send me an e-mail or leave a comment if you want to know the name of the place. I just don't want them getting hits on their site from mine and finding my blog) which lasted until about 6:15 when we had to leave to go get ready for our spa treatments. Christine took off for the spa service place and Krista and I took all of our stuff to our room. Wait a minute. Did I say room? We actually had a little mini-house to stay in complete with full kitchen, washer and dryer, and huge walk-in closet. There was a little sign in the closet saying the cost of the room was $1,400 per night for one person, $1,010 for two, and $840 for three. Not exactly a cheap little hotel room!
Krista and I then walked to the spa center for our massages and they were heavenly. Since it was dark by the time we got out, it was a little easier to appreciate Tucson minus the blazing heat. We met Christine back at the room and walked over to the dining room, but we were too late for dinner. It's funny, but they don't have prices on menus, just a list of fat, fiber, and calories per item. They even had a little sign next to the fruit bowl!
The next day we got up early (the other girls got up about a half hour before me and walked around the place taking pictures) and went to breakfast. I ordered whole wheat pancakes. They were surprisingly delicious. After that we went back to the room to get ready for our meeting.
You would think at first glance that the place would be devoid of life, but that turned out not to be the case. We saw rabbits, lizards, and prairie dogs all over the place in addition to a ton of beautiful plant life. Tucson was definitely prettier than Phoenix, but the state is just too brown for me to like it all that much.
After the meeting, it was back on the road and back home. All in all, it was a great meeting. The clients were very nice and easy to work with and we got so much accomplished. I am really excited about how wonderful this site is going to be. They've already started talking about phases two, three, and four, so I can see this is going to be the start of a wonderful relationship.

I'm having just the opposite problem. I moved to Massachusetts from AZ and it's too damn green here. :)
Glad you had a good time at the spa. Beats the grungy bar type of business meeting any day.

hey man, don't diss on AZ! so what if there's no green... it's a desert! you'd think differently if you went up north near Sedona and Flagstaff. one of the great things about Phx in the winter is if you get tired of the 70 degree weather, you can always take a two hour drive to Flag and go skiing. where can you go to from yewston? louisiana? big deal!

Sunday Op-Ed
Time for Chris's Sunday Op-Ed!
1. Doughnuts
What is something that I love to have for breakfast even though it's really bad for me? I love Shipley Do-Nuts more than any other brand. My favorites are their chocolate filled, their chocolate covered with nuts, and their plain glazed. Yummy.
2. Coffee
What is something that I find disgusting and I can't even imagine why people like it? I hate how coffee tastes and smells. The only thing remotely okay about coffee is the way the beans smell.
3. Summer
What is something that I used to love as a kid, but don't like as much anymore? Now during summertime, I wish it was the fall so all the damn kids would be in school and not clogging the mall, the movies, restaurants, etc. that I go to. Plus, it's just so hot.

Eight From The Eighties
Here's Deb's Eight From The Eighties!
1) Is it going to be a cruel summer? Well, Houston summers are, by the very definition, cruel summers.
2) Are you where the heat is on? Yes, though after coming back from Arizona a few weeks ago, Houston seems fine!
3) How do you sleep while your beds are burning? Not very well. Luckily, though, I am one of those people that don't get hot too often.
4) I get delirious, whenever... I've stayed up too late at work. Right, Christine?
5) Everytime you go away, you... worry that I forgot something at home.
6) What happens in your wildest dreams? Usually I'm either killing someone or being chased by someone that wants to kill me. Pleasant, huh?
7) Are you an angel of the morning? Hell no. I hate mornings.
8) Tell me, tell me, tell me how to be a millionaire? I wish I knew! Hopefully, by making a decent salary and saving I'll accomplish it!

Kymberlie Is...
I had meant to do this a few days ago, but am just now getting around to playing the "Kymberlie is" game. If you haven't seen this before, basically what you do is go type "X is" (where X is your name) in Google and see what the results are. Mine are as follows:
.: Kymberlie is looking for volunteers to do research and report up-to-date information on individual states for questions such as 1) the procedure followed in bite cases (i.e: whether the ferret is quarantined or "killed and tested"), 2) the number of ferrets that have been killed and tested for rabies in the past three years, and how many tested positive; and 3) which animal control/humane societies are "ferret friendly" and will take in stray ferrets without automatically euthanizing them.
.: Kymberlie is also celebrating the ticking over of another year on this planet. (Yes, this was actually about me!)
.: Kymberlie is watching - she loves Sting.
.: Kymberlie is taking some well deserved time away. (Posted in my own blog by Promo.)
.: Kymberlie is right about this being on Jesus Christ Superstar, which I actually know most of because we had the record when we were growing up.
.: Kymberlie is inspired by the Muse Calliope. (This is my old GeoCities page!)
.: Kymberlie is from Spring, Texas.
.: Kymberlie is going to the show at noon (she took the day off just to see it!) so I just couldn't stand it. (Posted by Christine about me going to see Harry Potter.)
Sometimes it pays off having an unusually spelled name since every one of these entries actually was about me (except the one about ferret rescue). I bet I am the only blogger able to say that!
