Working Away
I've been working on that huge engineering document today (the one that I've been working on all week), and I finally finished the front-end, except for some sections that I have to talk to Christine about. It is a seventeen page Visio document. The good news: it's almost completely finished. The bad news: I still have to do the massive back-end of the site. Since Christine, Krista (our lead designer), and I are going to Tucson to talk to the client on Thursday, I think I'm just going to get everyone to give feedback and comments on the finished diagram and work on the back-end one when I get back. I can't see anyway to have both finished by Wednesday.

Saturday Scruples
Time for Phoxxe's Saturday Scruples!
1. While a house guest, you accidentally smash a clay bust of your host. It could have fallen by itself. Do you keep silent? Probably. I would be so embarrassed and feel so bad, I most likely wouldn't tell.
2. Your elderly mother-in-law doesn't like nursing homes but can't live alone. Do you invite her to live with you? Honestly, more than likely not. I would like to, but I think I am too selfish.
3. A 12 year-old girl has cancer. Her father refuses to allow chemotherapy. Instead, he believes in alternative medicine. Should the child be removed from his custody? This is a very good question. I think that it should be consided neglect and the child removed if the chemo has a good chance of saving her life. If the odds aren't very good, then no.

Urge Senators to Ratify the International Women's Treaty
Next week the UN is holding a hearing on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). If ratified, the treaty will strengthen women's rights in the United States as well as globally. Please take a moment and urge supportive members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to vote for CEDAW's ratification.

I work with a man who makes comments like "need a loan?" then laughs...and "I see the gypsy is here." These comments are always at work and I find it offensive. It seems the more I avoid him, the more it happens. I appreciate that someone is trying to take some action on this.

Too Cute
An American Eskimo dog adopted two kittens, even going so far as to produce milk. I just love the picture of the dog and the kitten together. It's too cute.

Awww, that is so cute! When Mike was married to his ex, they had a lot of cats, and to their amazement, when they took in a trio of motherless kittens, one of their other cats, who had never borne a litter, and had been spayed, started producing milk for the kittens.
But I had never heard of an inter-species thing like this before! I guess it just goes to show that even animals can do what they need to in order to help others in need.
What a great story! Thanks for sharing it! :-)

Losers!
I work for 4 Guys Interactive. We're a kick-ass web development company that does great work and I'm very happy to work there. We have a great website, but there is a problem with having an awesome website - people steal it!
One of our employees was doing a search today for our boss's name and came across a company called Atlantis Designs. The reason our boss's name came up on their website is that they stole our design and even some of our content (that's how Dave's name got pulled up through a search).
Now we've had lots of companies steal our design in the past, but this is the most blatant one we've ever seen. What a bunch of losers. They're a web design company, but they can't even make up their own design for their site.
4 Guys Interactive versus Atlantis Designs
See any similarities?

Imitation is the highest form of flattery? *chuckle* that is pretty bad.
Posted by Babs at June 7, 2002 06:54 AM
Oh my! Did you see their "client list"? Most of the clients are their previous designs of their own site, 'cept two, one without an image, and a second hosted on virtualave. LOLOL!
That's pretty bad, and I bet your bosses kick their butts! :)
Posted by kristine at June 7, 2002 07:08 AM
Ya, sounds like legal action time to me. How absolutely ridiculous and blatantly STUPID. What were they thinking? Can they think? Obviously not if they need to steal so openly and obviously like that. Oi, some people... sometimes "wonderous variety" (as in different types of people that God put on earth, part of a quote from Kevin Costner Robinhood)means: lots of stupid people to weed out. Ha ha ha.. Oh, uh, that was rude, oops...lol.

Posted by cybertoad at June 7, 2002 01:02 PM
I actually took screen shots of the front page of both sites...lemme know if you want them, Kymberlie, and they are yours!
Friggin' pathetic, this whole thing is! LOSERS is not a strong enough word for these idiots!
Posted by Christine M. at June 7, 2002 03:48 PM
i wonder if they steal other designs for their clients, too? hey, there's an idear... you could email their clients and tell 'em what's up... would that be legal?
and they not only steal the design, but content too? allowing the originator to find the copier? gawd, how stupid and lazy can you get?!?

Thursday Threesome
Time for Deb's Thursday Threesome!
Onesome. Parsley - does anyone really cook with this stuff?!? what is the weirdest/funniest thing you ever did with the garnish on your plate at a restaurant. I must be really boring, but I can't think of anything weird or funny I've done with the garnishes on my plate. I usually just move them to the side or to a plate somewhere not near mine.
Twosome. Sage - to whom do you turn for advice? This isn't limited to just one person but could be several different people for different situations. Mostly I ask Steven, my mom, Jeanna, and Christine for general advice. For CSS and MT advice, I ask that Scripty Goddess Kristine.
Threesome. Rosemary and Thyme - what does the name "Rosemary" mean to you and to what time frame does the memory belong? My aunt Mickey's real name is Rosemary, so whenever I hear that name I think of her. She lived next door to us since I was five and when I go to my parents' house to play dominoes, she usually comes and plays too.

This is very much me.
You have high standards for yourself, and try desperately to live up to them. But when you are unable to reach those goals, you fall into a deep depression. People see you as a brilliant person, yet inside, you are full of self-doubt and fear of failure. You need to set more reasonable goals.

I Have (INTJ) Personality, Baby!
I took the BLOGinality test to determine my weblogger personality type that the ever-talented Kristine created and these were the results:
My Bloginality is INTJ!!!
As an INTJ, you are Introverted, iNtuitive, Thinking, Judging. This makes your primary focus on Introverted Thinking with an Extraverted Intution.
This is defined as a NT personality, which is part of Carl Jung's Rational (Knowledge Seeking) type, and more specifically the Mastermind or Scientist.
You aren't as openly affectionate as some of you NT counterparts, and this may cause other bloggers to assume you aren't as friendly. Your ideas and actual applications for these ideas are brilliant, however, and you might be more likely to create something masterful on your journal.

Topless = Newsworthy?
Jennifer Aniston is suing because a photographer with a telephoto lens scaled a neighbor's wall to take shots of her "reclining topless in her backyard, wearing only her panties."
What kills me is that the defendants argued that the photo was "newsworthy" so they should be allowed to publish it. WTF is wrong with these people? How is her lounging around topless, in her own backyard, newsworthy? I hate the paparazzi and hope she wins big time. I am glad I am not famous.

This-or-That Tuesday
Time for Christine's This-or-That Tuesday:
- Laptop or desktop computer?
Desktop. I just don't know if I would like a laptop all that much.
- PC or Mac?
PC. I've never even used a Mac.
- DVD or VHS?
Though I have a ton of VHS tapes (mostly at my parents' house), all I buy or rent now is DVD.
- Cell phone or regular phone?
Both, though I'm more likely to e-mail you than call you. I do notice that I spend most of my talk time on the cell.
- Satellite or cable TV?
Cable.
- X-Box or PlayStation?
Playstation. If the Playstation II drops $50 more, I may buy one.
- Netflix or video store?
Since we rarely rent movies anymore, we use the video store. If we rented more, I would do Netflix.
- Wide-screen or regular TV?
Regular, but I wish I had a wide-screen!
- Film or digital camera?
Digital, but I think I'll always have both.
- Dial-up or high-speed internet connection?
High-speed. I could never go back to a dial-up.

Just had to say that we rarely rented movies anymore 'til we joined Netflix. Having the convenience of watching whenever we want with no due dates -- and the time to browse rather than the pressure of getting in and out of the store w/o fighting a million little toddlers in our paths -- has changed our lives!

Six Feet Under
Steven and I watched the season finale tonight of Six Feet Under and all I can say is that show is absolutely incredible. I don't want to give anything away for those who haven't seen it yet, so only read the rest of the post if you don't mind spoilers.
The episode was so emotional that I found myself crying several times. When Aaron died and Nate was telling him to just let go, I felt like I had quit breathing and all I could do was just watch and cry. It really made me think about death and the afterlife and what, if anything, is waiting for us. I was so pissed off at that fuckhead of a doctor who was absolutely indifferent to Nate when he first found out about the AVM and now is blaming him for not doing anything about it. If I would have been in Nate's shoes I probably would have gotten a second opinion, but I definitely feel that the doctor is to blame on letting the disease progress so far. I'm almost starting to be worried about the relationship between Keith and David. I've wanted them to get together since the show started, but I think they've got a weird co-dependency thing going on and I'm not sure if they should stay together. I haven't liked what Brenda's character has been come this season and I'm not sure where the hell she's going off to. I was happy that they made Rico a partner. I've always liked him, but ever since they showed how he got into his line of work, my respect for him has increased even more. At the end of the episode when Nate was looking into the bus, I kept expecting his breathing (the background noise) to stop. I hope he comes through it okay. Despite being a little fucked-up, I've always liked him.
This show is so unflinching in its dealings with death and life that it always amazes me how well-written and human it is. I don't know if I can wait until next season to find out what happens next!

Participation Positives
It's Monday, so time to start the week out right with Jess's Participation Positives!
- I finished a new skin for my site. Like I really need nine skins, but I have fun making them and that's the important thing.
- I saw Jeanna yesterday, whom I hadn't seen since my birthday, and we had a fun day
- I got some good books at the half-price bookstore yesterday
- Jeanna and I got excellent seats to DCI's (Drum Corp International) The exSIGHTment of Sound
- By changing up a span tag in my index template, I was finally able to get the title and date to display the way I want in my Goldfish Crackers from Pepperidge Farm skin
- A co-worker's step-dad is probably going to buy my old computer for $400
- One of Steven's friends is interested in me doing a small, brochure-type website for him which would mean extra cash
- I have definitely seen an improvement in my weight since I started drinking water every day
- Since I made up my mind to drink eight glasses of water at work I haven't missed a single day. (Well, except when we ran out of water!)
- I love and am loved

Monday Mission 2.22
Here's PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.22:
1. Who or where do you go to when you need help for web-related problems?
Christine if it's a MT question and Kristine if it's a CSS question.
2. There is a big mess of gossip going on in the blogging community due to revelations about a very popular Blogger. I got very caught up in reading all the links to links about it until I stopped myself realizing it was none of my buisiness. Do you ever get caught up in gossip, either speading it or listening to it? How does it make you feel? Or have you ever been the subject of gossip?
I am a bit gossipy, but I don't think any more than the average person. I did have something where people started spreading stuff about me on an online message board maybe four years ago and let me tell you, that was no fun.
3. In a relationship, when your other takes a dig at you (read: a fight), do you go for the jugular and get "in their face" or try to peacefully smooth things out and have a calm discussion?
Steven and I don't really do this. Our "fights" are usually pretty mild. I try not to say anything in his face because it's just not nice or good for the relationship.
4. A friend once told me "You can tell when someone is bored with what you are saying to them when they reply with 'That's interesting.'" And I have found this to be pretty dang true. How do you know when someone has lost interest in what you are saying?
They tend to get a glassy look in there eyes and not meet your own.
5. Ever get jealous of the popularity other Blogs?
Yes. I am always jealous of how many hits (and comments) Christine gets.
6. What is your favorite dirty word? (those who don't curse can pick your favorite happy word)
This one's easy. Fuck is, hands-down, my favorite dirty word.
7. (the continuing story...) OK, we are definitely doing that again. But seeing as it is nearly 6am now, how about breakfast? Anywhere you'd like to go or should we fix our own? What do you like? Or is there something else we need to do first?
I am a sucker for hotcakes and sausage from McDonald's. I say let's pick some up and go home to eat.
BONUS: What have I done to deserve this?
Since you went away I've been hanging around
I've been wondering why I'm feeling down
You went away, it should make me feel better
But I don't know, how
How I'm gonna get through

Sunday Fun Day
My best friend Jeanna came over today and we spent the afternoon shopping at Half-Price books (evil store; don't even ask me how much I spent there!), going to the movies where we saw Insomnia (good movie, but very dark. Robin Williams was excellent as the bad guy.), and just generally caught up. We hadn't seen each other since my birthday, so it was nice to go out again. It's a shame the weekend had to end, but at least it ended with a fun day!

Sunday Op-Ed
Time for Chris's Sunday Op-Ed!
1. Muppets
What is something that I used to watch all the time as a kid but never watch now? I even used to watch The Muppet Babies cartoon.
2. Pajamas
What is something that I don't sleep in? ;-) I have, however, bought a cute boxer set from Victoria's Secret. (It's the blue and red one.)
3. Science Fiction
What is something that I love to read, but don't read as much of as I used to?

Eight From The Eighties
It's late, but here's Deb's Eight From The Eighties!
1) As I look back upon my life, it's always with a sense of... pride. I was in a bad relationship, deep in debt, overweight, and unhappy. I am now in good shape, am in a great relationship, am good with money (though not that good lately!), and very happy.
2) What are you no-no-notorious for? Sadly, I would say cussing. A lot.
3) Have you found what you're looking for? For the most part. I still want a house and a lot of travel time, though!
4) Who can that be knocking at your door? Today it was Jeanna. We went to the movies and the half-price book store. It was a fun day!
5) Are you a family wo/man? Nope. I got my man. :-)
6) Girls just want to have... a happy life. I do anyway.
7) Some guys have all the... things their heart's desire. Others aren't so lucky.
8) I'm once, twice, three times a... neurotic fish girl.
