Saturday Scruples
I didn't realize it but, Phoxxe took over Marsha's Saturday Scruples. So, once again, it's Saturday Scruples time at The Neurotic Fishbowl!
1. At a video store, someone is about to rent a movie you've seen. I'ts really bad. Do you say something? Yes, I do. It can't hurt them to know that it's a bad movie and they can still rent it, so a little extra knowledge can't be a bad thing.
2. Your former lover becomes famous. A tabloid offers you $50,000 for nude pictures and a "tell all." Do you sell? Since my ex was evil and left me with a ton of bills, you bet I would!
3. You decide not to hire someone because he's wearing a nose ring. When he asks why he didn't make it, do you give the real reason? Hmmm. I don't think I wouldn't hire someone because of a nose ring, but I guess I would tell them so that if they applied somewhere else they might think about removing it.

Eight From The Eighties
Time for Deb's Eight From The Eighties!
1) What's in your room? The majority of my "stuff" is in my office/computer room. In my room is basically the bedroom furniture and I have a lot of books on and in my nightstand.
2) Do you have fame? No, but I would hate to be famous.
3) Are you on a road to nowhere? No. My life is going pretty well - good job, good man, and plans for the future.
4) Ooh, are you a little runaway? No.
5) Have you ever felt the earth move, under your feet? Trite, but I did when Steven and I started dating.
6) I've been waiting, for a... engagement ring! :-)
7) If you love somebody... tell them often and let them know how much they mean to you.
8) Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies. Actually, please don't. I hate nothing more than being lied to!

Friday Five!
And now, time for today's Friday Five!
1. What's the last vivid dream that you remember having? The last one I can really remember took place at this strange casio/theme park. There was a huge window (as big as an IMAX screen) that looked out into a lake so you could see all the fish. The lake was filled with sharks and there was a wrecked boat. Other stuff happened, but the setting was so vivid.
2. Do you have any recurring dreams? For some reason, when I was a kid, I used to dream that I was at the Montgomery Ward's in Greenspoint Mall. We were in the garden area and they had all of these giant above-ground pools set up. In the pools were sharks. I used to dream that I was walking around the edge of the water and was afraid that I was going to fall in and get eaten. I'd never even seen Jaws, so I'm not sure where this dream came from. I still dream about sharks, in several different settings. I also dream about being back in college and having a test that I have to pass to graduate and I'd never been to the class (as was true of lots of my college classes). Another recurring dream is that I'm back in band camp where I marched the bass drum.
3. What's the scariest nightmare you've ever had? In July of 1998, I came home from work and took a nap. I dreamed that I was at this giant mall with these escalators that went up like twenty floors. I was going up them with a co-worker, Mary Ann, when suddenly we noticed that all the people around us were crouching down and covering their heads. We looked up and above us was a guy with a gun. People were sitting at his feet crying and looking scared. He looked down at us and pointed the gun at me and told me to come to him. I climbed up towards him and the gun was so real. The part that frightened me the most is that I looked over to my left and one of the cops looked away from me and started to cry because he knew that I was going to die. Steven and I had been dating for a little over six months at that time and we hadn't said "I love you" to each other. I started thinking that I was going to die without him knowing how much I loved him. When I got up to him, I woke up sobbing.
4. Have you ever written your dreams down or considered it? Why or why not? I never have, though I have thought about it. Usually I remember my dreams very vividly, so I never feel the need to write them down. Plus, I am always in a hurry in the mornings when they're freshest, so I never can write them down.
5. Have you ever had a lucid dream? What did you do in it? I've talked about this with friends before, so I'm pretty sure I have, but I can't remember what the dream was about.

Urge Congress to End Misuse of Vital Antibiotics in Factory Farms
I've posted about this before, but thought I'd share the link again. In factory farms around the nation animals are pumped full of antibiotics. This can result in strains of bacteria that are then resistant to medicine making it harder to get better when you get sick. Please take a moment and go urge Congress to protect human health by ending misuse of vital antibiotics in factory farms.

It's All About Me, Baby!
Today has been a day, that I declared for myself, to be all about me. I didn't have a lot of work to do, so I modified my blog. I played with calendars, with skins, with PHP includes, and just generally enjoyed making tweaks. I left work by 6:30 (which is usually pretty early for me) and went to this fabulous barbeque restaurant that I have been craving for weeks. I came home, sat on the couch in my underwear, and watched stuff on the Tivo. Now, I am going to play Zeus for a few hours. I am happy, tomorrow's Friday, we're meeting friends for dinner and drinks, and I am glad to be alive. :-)

Thursday Threesome
Time for Deb's Thursday Threesome!
Onesome. Readin. Tell me about your favorite book you read as a kid. Gosh, I've read so many books - both as a kid and as an adult - that it is hard to pick a favorite. When I was a kid, I really loved the Wrinkle in Time series. That's the one that's coming to me right now.
Twosome. 'Ritin. Everyone does a Senior Research paper. What was YOUR Senior Research Paper about? Actually, I was about three years advanced in English, so I didn't have to take any English classes past my sophmore year. My senior year, however, I did take an independent study English (definition of independent study: sit in the library with my friend for a whole period and pretend like you're studying on a chosen subject that you don't start researching until a week before your presentation is due). My topic was on architecture in English cathedrals. Since I went on vacation with an aunt and uncle there a few years before and had learned a lot about the architecture and had all the pictures, it was pretty easy.
Threesome. 'Rithmatic. Using those 'rithmatic skills to balance the checkbook...so, what store seems to have the most entries in your register, and what the heck have you been buying there? The most checks I write are to place like Pitty Pats Too and Y'all's Texas Store - I buy all my Beanie Babies there. :-)

Who says your earrings have to match?
I wore earrings (three) through my teens; I bought them all as singles from a jewelry place that always had a basket of unmatched silver earrings for a buck each. I always had three different ones on that balanced each other out.

Heifer International
If you've been looking for a good charity to spend money at, look no further than Heifer International. Heifer supplies poor locations around the world with a gift animal - goat, llama, water buffalo, rabbit, etc. The people of the region are taught how to care for the animal. The animal supplies the people with food, milk, eggs, items like fur that can be sold, and more. The people are then required to give some of the offspring to another family or group of people in need. They in turn do the same. By teaching people how to become self-reliant and having them help others, Heifer has assisted millions of people in become healthy, happy individuals that can stand on their own two feet. I gave the gift of ducks today. If you can spare a few dollars, please go and donate. It's a wonderful program and can use all the help it can get.

Tastes Like Vodka
I stopped on my way home from the gym and got one of the new bottles of Vanilla Coke. Since I'm such a huge Cherry Coke fan and I love vanilla, I thought it would be right up my alley. Alas, I am not as big a fan as I thought I would be. Honestly, it tastes just like the vanilla vodka I drink and I half expect to get a buzz from it! Oh well. This-or-That Tuesday
Since Christine was gracious enough to take over Ashley's This-or-That, here's my first of her questions!
- Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck?
Bugs Bunny.
- Tom or Jerry?
Jerry.
- Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck?
Mickey Mouse.
- Rocky & Bullwinkle or Boris & Natasha?
Boris & Natasha.
- Road Runner or Wile E. Coyote?
Wile E. Coyote. I hate the damn Road Runner.
- Sylvester or Tweety?
Sylvester. I cannot stand Tweety. I wish Sylvester would eat him.
- Popeye or Bluto?
Popeye, I guess.
- South Park or The Simpsons?
The Simpsons. I have never seen an episode of South Park.
- Jetsons or Flintstones?
Flintstones, though both are very cool.
- And finally, the eternal question asked by all good Scooby-Doo fans: Velma or Daphne?
Daphne. She's annoying as played by Sarah Michelle Geller, though.

24 Or Rather 48
I read yesterday that Fox is picking up the series 24 next season despite it being 89th in the ratings. I really like the show and have been on the edge of my seat watching it. I've even let two or three of them stay on the Tivo so I can remain in the show's frenetic pace and watch them back to back. Hell of a good show and it will be interesting to see the season finale after last week's bombshell of who the mole really is.

I have been home for 8 weeks with a balance problem, I went out today for the first time for a walk to the store when in the store I bent down to get my goods from the shelf and then felt light headed and my chest was beating very heavily I felt like getting out of the store , but I took a deep breath and calmed down,I left the store after making my purchase.and started to walk home, then half way up the hill my heart started beating fast again and I felt light headed again , I managed to get home my heart weas beatin fast for about 15 mins after getting home, I didnt feel out of breath but I felt dizzy and my heart was beating heavily.
Posted by john at June 2, 2003 08:12 PM
sorry me again , I have felt also scared of going out on my own I am normally always out and about , until my balance went funny 2 months ago ,
Posted by john at June 2, 2003 08:16 PM
I too am quite concerned about what's happening with me. I have been having chest discomfort, a/k/a chest pain, pressure. I have been seeing a cardiologist for about 6 months now. The symptoms continued until recently I submitted to an angiogram which revealed beautiful, healthy arteries. I have also had a stress test, ecocardiogram, lung test and bloods, all negative. But the symptoms continue. Within the past week, I lost consciousness twice. It was so quick that I almost wondered if that was what happened but I am not going to second guess myself. Something is wrong. I went to the doctor today and she recommended that I see a neurologist. Also, my hands become numb during the night. I am so apprehensive now. I am on high blood pressure medication and would like to start exercising but am afraid to do so with the dizziness and passing out.

Hey there, I have had issues with hearth palpatations for about 15 years now..I have had electos echos Holtors the works and they can't seem to find and true reason as to why my heart has irregular beats.. I have been having palpatations for 3 days in a row now.. it's getting rather frustrating and scary.. I have 4 young children to worry about.. if I can get my breathing to regulate , that may help.. breathing is a very important factor in dealing with these things.bearing down sometimes helps as does a good cough..drinking cold water is also helpful.. well take care all Michelle

Monday Mission 2.20
Here's PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.20:
1. When was the last time you went out with a true love of yours? What did you two do that made it so special?
Actually, Steven and I went out to dinner at Lupe Tortilla on Saturday, and for whatever reason, it was super romantic. We sang together in the car, he kissed my hand; it was sickingly sweet.
2. Which far-away friend would you most like to see again?
Well, if by far-away you mean Dayton, Trish and Jeanna!
3. Any high or low points about this past weekend? What went on?
Well, the strange almost gang fight in the movie was a low point. On the other hand, Friday was the day spa followed up by romance, take-out pizza, and movies, so that was a high point.
4. I've been thinking about getting a buzz-cut for the summer, a big change for me. Have you ever made any drastic changes to your appearance?
Not really. I look pretty much the same now and I did in high school.
5. How long do you think a couple should date before they get married? Or if you are married, do you think you should have waited longer to get hitched?
I think it depends on the couple, though people who get married after just a few months always makes me cringe. I'm not saying it can't work, but it always seems like such a bad idea.
6. I just found out my long-time friend does not like Star Wars (!) and has only seen the original 1977 movie! Have you ever discovered anything new or shocking about a long-time friend you thought you knew everything about?
There was something that I used to think, "Damn! I never knew that!" but I can't remember what it was or who it was about. Damn memory.
7. Well we had a nice picnic and saw the sunset, but now it's dark and I think we should liven things up. Let's call some of your friends and go out. Who do you want to invite and where should we all go?
Let's go do some boot-scootin' and put my country and western dance lessons to good use! We can call Steven, Christine, Trish, Jeanna, Russell, Joanna, and Shelby and have a grand ol' time!
BONUS: Why can't ya be good to me?
Because I can be a bitch.

Sunday Op-Ed
Time for Chris's Sunday Op-Ed!
1. Poems
What is something that I wish I liked more? I do like some poems, but the majority of them, I just feel like I don't get it.
2. Short Stories
What is something that I love to read and consider a good one to be a gem? I love to read short stories, more so than novels. Every year I look forward to The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror annual collection by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling. The first thing I look at in book stores is always the anthologies, though sadly, it seems a rare thing to find a good one or one that I haven't read most of the stories before.
3. Novels
What is something I devour constantly? I love to read and read, on average, a book or two a week. I've been slacking off the past month or so, but I will read more soon. I just love to read!

Eight From The Eighties
It seems that Deb's Eight From The Eighties will always be a Sunday instead of Saturday thing with me, so here they are!
1) Are you forever young? Yep! It always surprises me that I AM a grown-up with a car payment, insurance, medical bills, etc. How the hell did that happen?
2) Are you like a virgin? Like, no.
3) Are you looking for a new love, baby? No way! I like totally love my man! (Like the eighties slang?) Seriously, though, I am so happy with Steven, that no, I am not looking for a new love.
4) Are you in control? I wish. My biggest problem lately is that I feel very out of control in my (work) life. And since all I do is work or talk about work or think about work, I've been feeling very out of control. I need to stress less and let is all go.
5) Have you ever been where the streets have no name? Since I am perpetually lost when driving some where new, I always feel this way, even if it's not true.
6) Do you have a touch of grey? Not yet! ~crosses fingers~
7) When was the last time you celebrated good times? Friday night, just me and the boyfriend.
8) Are you wild an' willin' or is it just for show? Wild an' willin' usually, but I've been stressed and tired lately, so it's been a show.

Spider-Man - Now With Gang Action!
We went and saw Spider-Man on Saturday night and it was really good. I am a sucker for big summer flicks, and I really enjoyed it.
The one thing that I didn't enjoy was when about half way through the movie twenty or so people in the first two rows stood up and started shouting at each other. They moved to behind the hallway behind the seats and kept yelling at each other. Eventually they all wandered back in, but about five minutes later they did the same thing. I was really beginning to think that a brawl was going to break out. I don't know if someone came and kicked them out or they decided they didn't really want to see the movie, but they never came back. I think I'm going to call AMC and suggest that they start putting a security gaurd in each of the theaters. That way when something like this happens, there is some around.
