Breathing Heavily
I just got off the StairMaster, and I feel like I'm going to die. The best way to use the StairMaster is to get on it before you eat or drink anything so you're burning stored fat instead of calories. Let me tell you, that is hard to do if you haven't eaten yet. I forgoed the regular 20+ minutes and only did fifteen. Help! Someone bring me some water!

Ah, What a Day!
I spent the day at Urban Retreat and it was wonderful! Unfortunately, Trish didn't get to come with me, but it was still a nice time. I swung by the radio station first to get my Office of the Day prize, so I have a four pack of "gourmet orange soda" and a $50 gift certificate to Cookie Bouquet. Apparently, there was a big issue at work with on of my clients that has now been resolved, so it looks like I picked a good day for my mental health day!
Not sure what's on the agenda for tonight. Steven's talking about going to see Spider-Man, but I don't think I feel like putting up with crowds and all. I hope everyone else is having a great Friday!

So? Did you go see Spidey? And I'm not sure how big of an issue it was ... I didn't even know it was going on until 1pm! So hopefully it wasn't too bad - maybe B was just having a bad day overall. There was stress with that other client too...

Friday Five!
And now, time for today's Friday Five!
1. What shampoo do you use? Usually Herbal Essence for colored hair, but right now it's Pantene.
2. Do you use conditioner? What kind? I've just in the past year or so really started using conditioner. Right now I'm using Herbal Essence.
3. When was the last time you got your hair cut? In the beginning of April.
4. What styling products do you use? A brush. :-) Sometimes I use In Salon's Leave-it moisturizer if it's really tangled and hard to brush.
5. What's your worst hair-related experience? The first time I got a perm (I was probably around twelve) the electricity and water went out at the Fantastic Sam's where I was getting my hair done. They had already put the soloution in and couldn't get it out for hours. My hair was so frizzy and curly. It was awful.

Oppose the Anti-Gay Federal Marriage Amendment
There is a bill going around Congress that would narrowly define marriage as the union of a man and a woman, and consequently strip unmarried couples - gay and straight - of all legal protections and civil rights pertaining to their relationships. Please take a minute and let your Congressman or woman know that you oppose this bill.

If I lived in the States, I would certainly add my voice to this. However, I happen to live in a more enlightened place, Quebec City, where, the legislature has proposed and looks like putting through a bill into law that will give all couples, rights - gay, striaght or otherwise.
Posted by Alexandra at May 17, 2002 02:49 PM
I am opposed to government interference in any marriage, gay or straight. The government has no right to tell me I have to get a piece of paper from them before I can get married in a religious ceremony.

I do like things to be as simply as possibly, despite the fact that that is not usually the case, LOL! A lot o my life does center on family (especially my new husband and stepdaughter) and trying to be helpful when I can. I really enjoy site:-)

My Weekend Begins Now!
Tomorrow Trish and I are off to Urban Retreat Day Spa for their Elegant Retreat Package. I also won Office of the Day last week on one of the local radio stations, so first we're going to swing by and get my prizes. I'm not sure what all I won, but they said there's a gift certificate to Cookie Bouquet, so that's enough for me. Glad my mom was listening and heard them call my name!
So, a three day weekend for me and I've even got all of my work stuff taken care of. I am going to go home, relax, play Zeus and Poseidon, and watch tv. To paraphrase Dean Martin, how lucky can one girl get?

Thursday Threesome
Time for Deb's Thursday Threesome!
Onesome. Livin. Livin La Vida Loca. Oh, for goodness sake. What pop song do you love to sing along with but don't want to admit it? I know a lot of people are completely annoyed by the McDonald's commercial featuring that Spice Girl song, but I like it.
Twosome. Charmed. Charmed, did you say? Come now, are you superstitions? Do you buy into lucky charms and signs and such? I am a little bit. Mostly in the "This poker table at Paradise Poker is called a name I like. That must mean I will win at this table" kind of way.
Threesome. Life. Let's play the game of Life. Or is it Monopoly? What is your all time favorite board game? Come on, tell us what you like about it. My all-time favorite board game has got to be Trivial Pursuit. As my friends can tell you, I am the Trivia Queen. When I was in middle school (before we could drive), my friends and I used to play Trivia Pursuit over the phone. Can you tell I've been geeky my whole life?

Forget Star Wars
Forget Star Wars. The movie that I can't wait to see this summer is Men In Black II. I loved the first one and saw it in the theater like five times. The second one looks like it will be just as good as the first one. Lara Flynn Boyle will kick ass as the bad guy (girl) and I love Tommy Lee Jones. Hurry up, July 3rd!

Broke My Streak
I broke my five day streak of having at least eight glasses of water a day yesterday (very stressful, hectic day topped off by going to the ball game), but I am back on track today. So far I've made a big $6.50 off of Steven for all my water consumed. He says that I look thinner and my skin looks better, though I haven't really noticed a difference. Steven, though, is not one of those people who would say he sees a difference if he doesn't. I'm hoping that I'll just start shedding the pounds noticeably any day now. :-)

Star Wars Obsessive
I understand that someone can really like Star Wars, but Tom Minter, 21, flew in from Leeds, England, to see "Episode II" and plans to watch it 17 times over the next four days. Why in god's name would you need to see a movie seventeen times in four days? No movie can possibly be that good! And, Episode I, really sucked, so I'm not expecting Episode II to be much better.

Posted by Cullen Factor at December 4, 2002 03:43 PM
What's wrong with seing Star Wars seventeen times? And who sez Episode One sucked. Not up to par, perhaps, but isn't "sucked" too strong a word to use when referring to Star Wars?
And saying that no movie can psooibly be that good about Star Wars is just plaing wrong.
Posted by Cyberbob at December 4, 2002 09:40 PM
Yes, no MOVIE can be that good, but a STAR WARS movie can...
Posted by JudoJohnson at December 5, 2002 05:44 PM
Everybody needs a hobby . . . and there are worse hobbies than Star Wars.
I flew to NYC for the same reason Tom did-- I met him in that line. He's a good guy. And no, neither of us (nor the others who flew in for the occasion) are crazy.
Star Wars is a permanent part of pop culture-- not just in America anymore, but all around the globe. We happen to enjoy celebrating it-- and it's more fun when you're part of a group like the SW group in NYC.
Would you buy an airplane ticket to go to the superbowl? Some people would. No one thinks they're crazy. They're "dedicated fans." So are we.
A new Star Wars movie is a "superbowl" of its own . . . and at least we movie fans don't ever get arrested for being drunken/disorderly or hostile at our "superbowl." ;)
Posted by Callista at January 7, 2003 11:13 PM
Heheh, what's funny is that if Christine saw Mr. Male Model Minter in person, she wouldn't be calling him a dork. And obviously he can't be such a loser, cause he has us friends. It's just that the rest of us are as nerdy as he is.
Posted by asax at January 8, 2003 12:15 AM
Star Wars is far more than just a bunch of movies; Star Wars has clearly elevated itself in our pop culture as a treasure of modern myth. This is simply a portrayal of his dedication and devotion to something he truly believes in. Way to go Tom!

Monday Mission 2.19
It's late, but here's PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.19:
1. Have you ever given someone a present you just KNEW would be "da bomb" and when they opened it you could tell they just hated it? What's the story there?
Steven used to not like the shirts and ties I bought him, but I never thought they were "da bomb." Mostly, any gift that I thought was "da bomb," has been. I'm usually a good gift giver.
2. What do you do that you would prefer that Mother never finds out about?
Well, since she reads my blog (Hi, Mom!), it would be silly to post it here, wouldn't it?
3. Ever get in any arguments with your mother? What was one of the worst?
We argued a lot when I was an angry teenager, but I can't remember one that was too too bad.
4. When was the last time someone special hurt your feelings? Did you tell them or keep it to yourself?
Today and I told them.
5. Has your mother ever laid any guilt trips on you or made you feel like you can't do something good enough?
My brother broke my digital camera when I loaned it to him a couple of weeks ago and my mom was telling me not to "harass" him about it.
6. Looking back on your life, was there ever a point you see as the "crossroads" where you made a decisions that changed the course of your life? A path you did not take? What was that path, and do you ever daydream about what your life would have been like on the "road not taken?" Tell me about that.
Dating my ex-fiance and becoming so serious about someone while I was in high school was a huge turning point in my life. I probably would have gone away to school, would have gone to graduate school in psychology, and wouldn't have a terrible credit rating. I don't daydream, however, about not taking that road because I learned a lot (the hard way, unfortunately) and I think I am ultimately a better person for it.
7. That was an awesome picnic basket you put together, let's stroll out by the lake as the sun sets. A cool breeze blows off the lake as the orange and red reflects off the ripples in the water. I can tell something is on your mind and I ask you. You think about how to reply but finally you say...
"I wish I could swim."
BONUS: What do you think will come of that?
Hopefully, what I want.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game
Steven called me up today to tell me that his boss gave him tickets to go see the Astros tonight at Enron Astros Field. We had a great time at the game. It was a nice night, so they had the top open (for those of you not familiar with Houston, the field is one of those ones where they can either open it or close it). The seats are just about the best in the park. They're right under the press boxes and, during the seventh inning streatch, they always throw bags of peanuts and Cracker Jacks to the fans. For the first time ever, Steven caught a bag of Cracker Jacks. Yummy! The 'stros won by four and they shot of fireworks at the end of the game. Man, I do love baseball season!

Ya know what my favorite water-related thing is right now? I have a britta water filter pitcher in my fridge and we've been keeping it full so that we always have better tasting water to drink. And its cold, and perfect, and a few drops of lemon juice in it gives it a nice fresh lemony taste!! :)

Time for Chris' Sunday Op-Ed!
1. Mom
Who is someone that I love and admire more as I grow older? My mom is a fabulous woman and I am so glad that she's mine!
2. Flowers
What is something that I love to have around me, even if I have to buy them myself? I love roses and whenever Christine and I go to Wal-Mart, we always split some for our desk at work. Steven will surprise me with a boquet every now and then which really makes me happy.
3. Children
What is something that is fine in small doeses but I don't like to be around for a long time? I am one of those people that don't really like kids and if I have to spend more than an hour or so with them, it will drive me nuts. Needless to say, I don't play on having any.

Eight From The Eighties
Like they say, I'm always a day late and a dollar short, so here's Deb's Eight From The Eighties!
1) Have you been working for the weekend? I always work for the weekend. I love my job, I do, but I always feel like I'm under pressure (Look! Another cool 80s reference!) and the weekends are my chance to relax so I don't go postal and destroy anything.
2) Can you do magic? I wish I could. How cool would it be to be able to do real magic and not just stupid palor tricks?
3) Are you like a rock? Hmmm. Sort of. I am there for people when they need me, which is rock-like.
4) Who keeps you hangin' on? Steven, Christine, Trish, and Jeanna.
5) Are you runnin' down a dream? I am. As a matter of fact, Steven and I went and looked at some houses this week. We're still probably a few years away from buying on, but it's a goal and dream we're heading towards.
6) When's the last time you just got lucky? Friday. :-)
7) Do you go crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man/woman? Definitely! That was one of the things that attracted me to Steven. He looks damn good in a coat and tie.
8) Hit me with your best shot. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
