Eight From The Eighties
Here's Deb's Eight From The Eighties!
1) My lucky number's... ironically enough, eight. I love eights. I also like fives and fours (because it's half of eight). I have a weird habit of doing things in groups of fours like taking sips, bites, steps, etc. Weird, huh?
2) Are you super freaky, yow? Probably not super freaky, but I do think I'm a bit of a freak.
3) Do you drink? Do you smoke? What do you do? I drink (usually just on the weekends, though), but I don't smoke.
4) What *do* boys like? Most of them like girls who are nice and fun to be with. I would hope that they also like girls who are smart and witty, but seriously. Who the hell knows what boys like? :-)
5) Is heaven a place on Earth? Sometimes, but I don't think it can be all the time.
6) Have you ever been in a bizarre love triangle? Nope, thank god.
7) Do you get physical, physical? Sure do! We just bought a new StairMaster PT 4600 and I go to the gym. Now that we bought the StairMaster, though, I will admit I'm a less likely to go to the gym and do weight training as well.
8) Shout, shout, let it all out. Arrrrggghhh! I've been feeling that way about stuff lately, but I think this next week should resolve some of the issues. Also, yeaahhhhh! I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow! w00t!

Saturday Scruples
Time for Marsha's Saturday Scruples!
1. as a famous athlete, you are offered $100 000 to endorse a product you wouldn't use. do you endorse it? Definitely, unless it's something that I am morally against like maybe cigarettes.
2. a friend who is a strict vegetarian is coming for dinner. you're feeling proud of your bean stew until you remember that you used a beef stock. do you keep quiet and serve the dish? No, I would tell them. Everyone else can eat it and let me know how fabulous it is. Of course I can't make anything more complex than Pop-Tarts, so this will never happen. :-)
3. on an airplane, an old man asks if you will change seats with his wife so they can sit together. you came early to get a window and don't like his wife's location. do you move? Probably. It would be nice to stay in the seat I want, but if I had to sit apart from Steven I would hope I could talk someone into trading seats with me, so I would do it for others. Unless it was near an obnoxious child. Then no way in hell.

Chilling Out
I just had a massage, took a shower, and now I'm sitting around in a fluffy robe just chilling out. It is nice to know that I am going on vacation and don't have to worry about the real world until next Thursday. Christine is handling my project manager duties while I'm gone, so I am sure things will be fine when I get back. Steven and I are going to have lunch with Nerdboy Mikey on Sunday, so that should be fun. I am now going to surf blogs to my little heart's contents. w00t for vacations!

Rub Me, Damn It!
I made an appointment with the beauty college by my gym for an intern massage about two weeks ago for this afternoon. Yesterday I got a call from them asking me if I could move my appointment up to 11:30 (it was supposed to be at 3:30). I told them I had actually planned on taking the afternoon off from work so I couldn't do that. They said it would be no problem and that they would see me tomorrow. I get a call today around noon from the beauty college. It seems the internist had a "family emergency" and wouldn't be able to make the appointment and they had no one else who could give it. Considering she called me yesterday to try and change the time, I doubt seriously that she had an unrelated family emergency this afternoon. I ended up making an appointment with a local day spa since I have so much tension in my neck and back and want to be completely relaxed when we leave on Sunday. It's going to cost me an extra $40, but Christine was kind enough to buy me lunch, so since I saved money there, I saw screw it, I'm going to get on anyway. :-) I'll be leaving work pretty soon, so the next time I post, I'll be one relaxed neurotic fish!

Friday Five!
And now, time for today's Friday Five!
1. What's your favorite TV show and why? It used to be The X-Files, but since they got rid of Mulder, I don't like the show like I used to. It's now HBO's fabulous Six Feet Under. Everything about that show is great - the characters, their interaction, the writing, the cast - everything. I highly recommend watching this show.
2. Who is your favorite television star? It used to be David Duchovny, but I guess now it would have to be Eric McCormick from Will & Grace.
3. What was your favorite TV show as a child? Hmmm. I loved a bunch of cartoons including Penelope Pitstop and Bugs Bunny. Probably those.
4. What show do you think should have been cancelled by now? Everybody Loves Raymond. I hate Ray Romano and that show just sucks.
5. What new show do you hope escapes the axe this season? Alias or 24.

I'm a Card-Playing Fool
Just gone done playing in a couple of tournaments over at Paradise Poker. After getting my ass kicked royally in the first one, I came back and got second place in the next one. Grand total of money made: $3. Since we are leaving for Vegas this Sunday, though, I figured I better get in a couple of hours of play before we go. Thursday Threesome
Time for Deb's Thursday Threesome!
Onesome. The Sun. Blow some sunshine my way, and tell me what makes you feel joyful. Lots of things. They include riding around with the top down on my Miata on a Friday afternoon, going to Galveston for the weekend with my best friend, and being with Steven to name a few. Oh, and the massage tomorrow and the trip to Vegas on Sunday are making me pretty damn joyous!
Twosome. The Moon. By the light of the silvery moon....tell me about your most romantic evening. I always think of mine and Steven's first date. It wasn't anything spectacular like a trip to Paris or a picnic on the beach, but it was so amazing. We went to dinner and talked about a million things, went to the movies, walked around the mall for two hours waiting for the movie to start, and he was just incredibly sweet, charming, and wonderful. He held my hand, complimented my dimple, and just made me feel like the most special person on the planet. We've had other dates that are probably "more romantic," but to me, that one will more than likely always be the best.
Threesome. And The Stars. What's your sign, baby? And do you believe in that sort of thing, anyway? I do, to an extent. I am a Pisces to a tee. I've had my chart done and it really was almost an identical picture of who I am. I've had other people's done as well (like Steven) and he was very much like what his chart said. I don't read my horoscope very often and I would never plot my day by it, but I do think there is something to astrology.

Do you remember Lite-Brite? I used to love mine. I never really made pictures with the little pegs. Eight From The Eighties
I doubt I will ever actually get one of these done on time, so here's Deb's Eight From The Eighties.
1) Do you find yourself making love out of nothing at all? I like to flirt, but I never make it into more than that, especially now that I'm in a relationship.
2) All I need is a miracle, all I need is... to win the intercasino jackpot while I'm in Vegas next week!
3) If you had to live your life in one day, how would you speed your time away? With the people I love - my family, my friends, and Steven. Trite, but true.
4) Do you get so emotional, baby? Yes, I am a big time emotional person. Even more so when tired or drunk.
5) Do you have too much time on your hands? Lately, no. I've been really busy with work and the day just seems to fly.
6) Sex is natural, sex is fun, sex is best when it's... with the person you love. Of course, I've never had any one night stands, so what do I know? :-)
7) Is there something I should know? Nothing that I can think of right now.
8) Do you come from a land down under? Have you ever been there? No, but I would like to go some day. One of Steven's uncles lives in Sydney. He hasn't been down there since the early eighties, so I hope we can go visit them in the next couple of years.

Oh My God
While surfing CNN I saw a news story about a fifteen year old girl and a ten year-old boy who murdered their six year-old brother. Not too many details were realeased, but the horror that the little boy must have experienced and the grief that the parents must be going through right now is just heartbreaking. Vote For the Texas Quarter!
You know those nifty new quarters with a design for each state? Now you can go vote for your favorite Texas quarter. I really like number two. I was thinking, "Man, I wish it had the shape of Texas somewhere on it." After clicking the quarter to view a bigger shot of it, I saw that it does have one. I think my choice is made now. Number four looks like a police badge to me. It and number five are boring, though five is way in the lead. Not to influence you, but go vote for number two. :-)

I love the state quarters...I've been collecting them since they started, I even have one of those coin folder thingies! Anyway, I agree with you about #2.
Posted by Christine at April 16, 2002 05:03 PM
I voted for number 5.
Because it's just got that bigheaded, egotistical quality that makes Texas what it is.
This is my guess why Texans are all over it.
Too bad it doesn't have a gigantic penis shooting out from the star. Then it'd be perfect.
Hmm, this may have been inappropriate ;)
Posted by melly at April 17, 2002 03:17 PM
I think that much like all the other quarters, Texas should have something on their quarter that describes our state specifically. Why not something like the Alamo? Blue Bonnets perhaps?

This-or-That Tuesday
Time for Ashley's This-or-That Tuesday:
- Do you eat food if it hits the floor? Yes or no?
Guilty. I do.
- Chinese food or Italian?
The only Chinese food I really eat is Chinese Cafe's shredded chicken in white sauce and shrimp fried rice, but I adore Italian food, especially lasagna.
- Ice cream or yogurt?
Ice cream. Yogurt is nasty.
- Do you eat breakfast? Yes or no?
I do during the week, usually a plain english muffin from McDonald's with grape jelly or occasionally a donut. During the weekend I don't get up until 2:00 p.m. or later, so I don't think you can count that as breakfast.
- Have you ever eaten a bug? Yes or no?
We get those little bitty sugar ants in the house and one time there was one on my toothbrush and I didn't notice until I was finished brushing my teeth. Does that count?
- Soft drink from a can, bottle, or glass?
Can.
- Do you consume 5 fruits and vegetables a day?
Nope.
- Apple or orange?
Orange, but I like apple (both the fruit and the flavor) too.
- Pork rinds or sardines?
Good lord, neither.
- Caviar or grits?
What is with these nasty foods? Neither of these as well.

A New Flavored Coke
I am a huge Cherry Coke fan, so I'm kind of excited that Coca-Cola announced today that it will be shipping Vanilla Coke starting next month. All my life I've heard that vanilla coke is to die for, but I've never tried it. I'm not sure if it will taste good, but I love vanilla vodka, so I'll give this a shot. (There's a lame joke there. i love cherry coke! and i love it when they just put cherry syrup in coke. i have never tasted vanilla coke, but i've had a vanilla coke float before (like rootbeer floats)... don't like lemon coke all that much... but vanilla vodka? i haven't tried that either as i am not a big alcohol drinker... but that does sound tasty!!!

I'm looking forward to this. Every time I go to Sonic I have to order a vanilla coke. They are so delish. To die for good.
There's a vanilla vodka? Hold me back. I do believe my next trip to the liquor store will find me buying some of this and giving it a whirl. I can't wait. And I think I'll do what Audra suggested and try it in some Coke. Hmm. This weekend sounds good to me. Wanna come over and try it with me? :P

Once and Again No Longer
I just watched the finale of Once and Again and it was incredible, just like all the episodes before it. I am so sad to see this amazing piece of television get cancelled. This show made you believe that these people were real. I keep hoping that maybe the new Oxygen Network or that Lifetime will pick it up. Does anyone know what sacrifices the tv gods like best? I am going to be so heartbroken with this show ending and The X-Files ending as well, though in the case The X-Files I believe it's time to let that one go. I loved, loved, loved O&A the entire time it was on. However, last nights finale left me really upset. I hated how Lily was so whiny and argh - she pissed me off. A job is nothing to throw a marriage away over. And then Jake marrying Tiffany. And Tiffany sat there before the wedding and asked Lily of all people if she could trust Jake and what she should do. Hello! McFly - he cheated on Lily with you - how can you trust him?
I loved this show and I'm so sorry to see it go too. I'm so bummed.

Monday Mission 2.15
Here's PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.15:
1. What caused your last case of psuedo-road rage?
I have psuedo-road rage every time I get in the car it seems. Right by my office is 249, a major freeway. You can turn under the overpass from two different lanes. You have a choice of four lanes to turn into. I think that it's first lane to the first two lanes, second lane into the last two lanes. I'm in lane two and this huge-ass SUV (like there's any other kind) is in lane one. We both turn under the overpass and the SUV turns into the third lane, completely ignoring the fact that I'm there at all. I hate people who drive their big-ass vehicles like they are the only people on the road.
2. Tell me about one of your favorite television shows that was cancelled (past or present).
Actually, tonight Once and Again is having its series finale after being on the air for three years. I think this show has some of the best writing that I've ever seen allowing you to really feel like you know the characters and that they're real. I will truly miss this show and shame on ABC for cancelling a quality program like this but keeping trash tv like The Bachelor on the air.
3. Have you ever gone online and pretended to be someone else? What's the story there?
Back when my ex, Satan (as I refer to him), and I broke up, I went to a chatroom I knew he frequented to see what was going on with him. He was talking about moving to Vegas or something like that, so I asked him what was there that would make him want to move. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the site tracked where you were from, so he was able to figure out it was me. We talked for a bit (this is before he left me with a ton of bills and became Satan full-fledged) and then he signed off. He then signed back on and talked to me pretending to be someone else as I poured my heart out about how I wanted him back, couldn't live without him, blah blah blah. Took me a little while to figure out it was him. Embarrassing.
4. What was (is) one of your favorite Children's books?
There are too many to name, but A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle along with Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and Blubber come to mind.
5. Can you recommend a CD (tape or otherwise) for me to listen to on the drive home?
I'm currently listening to my copy of the Run Lola Run soundtrack. If you like techno music, it's a winner. I love putting the top down on my Miata and driving with this one.
6. What is your online nickname and what is the story behind how you selected it?
I'm kind of boring, I guess. I've always just used Kymberlie for everything I do. I love my name and how I spell it, so I use it for all my online activities.
7. Ever been bitten or stung before (snake, wasp, dog, etc)? Nipped by my parents' silky terrier and I think stung once by a wasp, but that's about it.
BONUS: Does anybody love anybody anyway?
I love you whether or not you love me
I love you even if you think that I don't
Sometimes I find you doubt my love for you, but I don't mind
Why should I mind, Why should I mind
I have Howard Jones' greatest hits CD and listen to it all the time. :-)

Oh crap! You mean I missed the finale of Once and Again. Well shit! That just ... sucks. You know what sucks even more? They have all these crappy ass tv shows that have been on for years and show no signs of ever ending and when a great show comes along, it ends in a short time period. It's no wonder I watch so very little television. I'd stay pissed off all the time if I watched it any more than I do. Blech.

Yep - I know that 249 exit (I live in NW Houston)... and L'Engle was my favorite childhood author! My husband got me the whole Wrinkle in Time series for Xmas and I hope to re-read it soon.

I'm a Pioneer
I used the Dewey Color System to see what my preference for certain colors say about my personality and here are the results:
BLUE PURPLE BLACK: You're a Pioneer
You think about why people do what they do. By understanding the motivation of others, you seek to create a better world. Changing the world around you through personal achievements is your everyday challenge.
The passionate you is a strong-willed, reflective strategist. You listen to learn why something was done before you act. Others turn you on when they challenge you. You can see all the possibilities.
The centered you can see how to direct your life toward a greater inner peace. You are able to discern exactly what you need. When all is quiet within you recognize just what you want.
The emotional you needs to feel grounded. Reality can be disappointing. Accept each situation's truth and each person's motivation before you act. Ensure that your empowering determination is focused on agendas that can be accomplished.
This seems fairly accurate. I was, after all, a psychology major, so it's not surprising that I think about why people do what they do. I'm also a strong believer that by understanding what makes people tick we can try and make the world a better place. My personal philosophy has always been that we are here to make the world better for others. I love a challenge as well and are happiest at work when I have lots of things to do, things that are challenging and not routine. I'm not sure if I really can see a greater inner peace, but I like to think that I have a fairly good handle on what I want to acheive and how to get it.

A Sick Fish
I've been feeling under the weather all day today. I took a nap for a little under two hours and I'm feeling a little better, though not great. I wish I had some Sprite to drink to see if it could help settle my stomach. :-( I'm watching Alias in the back room while I Tivo The X-Files in the living room. Maybe when they go off I'll see if I can find something easy on my stomach for dinner and go get some Sprite. What a fun Sunday.

Sunday Op-Ed
Time for Chris' Sunday Op-Ed!
1. Cheesecake
What is something that I don't really like except for James Coney Island's Oreo cheesecake? Christine orders it every time we go there and is always sweet enough to grab two forks and share.
2. Wine
What is something that no matter how hard I've tried to like it, I just can't? I've always wanted to relax with a nice glass of wine, but I hate how it tastes. Blah.
3. Dancing
What is what we did last night and something we take lessons for every week? Steven and I took country and western lessons for about a year, took a little over two years off, and have been going back for the past seven months. I love to dance, whether it be two-stepping or just shaking my butt on the dance floor.

Except for the last time when they dared to be all out of the cheesecake! The horror! And I was totally craving it too. *sigh* Maybe this week...

A Storybook Life
I thought this one was cute, even though I never did read the Paddington Bear books. If I remember correctly, though, when I went to England, Heathrow Airport (or did we come in through Gatwick? I can never remember) had a big Paddington Bear statue. It was one of the first things we saw getting off of our plane and I always think of it fondly.
which children's storybook character are you?
