Monty Python - Lego!
Since the moose post below has spawned Monty Python posts galore, I thought I'd share the funniest Quest for the Holy Grail link I've ever found. Watch the Camelot scene done entirely in Legos! The first time I saw this I was at work (working hard, obviously) and I started laughing out loud. Oops! Good thing it's a relaxed environment. :-)
(My favorite part of that whole sequence is the part where the prisoner in the dungeon is clapping in time with the music. That part always makes me lose it!)

If you get the Special Edition 2-DVD set of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, it includes the Lego versions as part of the Special Features.

I saw that it was listed on that version. Unfortunately, I bought my version when I got my DVD player over two years ago, so mine's just the plain jane version. :(

Go get thee the new version! It's almost a crime not to have it. I'm just dying to get my hands on a new Life of Brian.

Accomplished!
If you look over in the sidebar, you might notice that right now I am feeling accomplished. The reason for that is on Wednesday, Thursday, and today I've played in one tournamet at Paradise Poker and I've won first place ($25) all three times despite having crappy cards and not being able to make any hands until several rounds into the tournament. Yeah, me! :-)

You'll Be Missed, Doc
I was reading the news today and saw that animator Chuck Jones has died at age 89. This is so sad. Like most kids, I grew up on a steady diet of his cartoons and some of my fondest memories are of his work. I loved "What's Opera, Doc?" and remember watching it through my Viewfinder. One of my absolute cartoons featured Marc Anthony & Kitty (the bulldog and black and white kitten). The bulldog thought the little kitty had ended up cooked in a batch of cookies and when the mom in the picture made him a cookie shaped like a cat he just cried and carried it around everywhere. It was just priceless. My dad used to sing the songs from "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" to my brother and I and whenever we saw snakes (we lived on an acre in a wooded area of Texas), would call them Nog or Noganina. Going though his official website, it's amazing how many incredible characters he created. What an amazingly talented man. He will be missed by children and adults everywhere.

Walkin' in Memphis
I'm listening to my mp3s on shuffle and Marc Cohn's version of "Walkin' in Memphis" came on. Does anyone remember The X-Files episode called "Postmodern Prometheus" that was done in black and white? I love it at the end when everyone goes to see Cher in concert and she's singing "Walkin' in Memphis" and Mulder and Scully dance together. That has got to be one of my favorite episodes. I'll be sad to see The X-Files ending this season, but I've been so unhappy with the show ever since David Duchovny left. At least I've got the first four seasons on DVD.

LOL, I totally forgot about that episode! It was so funny, I wish I could see it again.
Well, the good news about the XF is that it is ending this year, and even mo' bettah is David is returning for the 2 hour finale (as well as directing an upcoming ep or two).
Now that CC will have some time on his hands, maybe we can finally look forward to a good XF movie.

Who was the original singer of "walkin in Memphis"? ive been trying to figure that out
Posted by Marie at June 28, 2003 10:06 AM
As far as I can tell it is Cher then Marc Cohn and Lonestar have made newer versions of the song.
Posted by Ryan at July 15, 2003 12:38 AM
I believe the original singer fo Walkin in Memphis was Johnny Rongo from Youngstown, Ohio
Posted by Ron Gallite at July 18, 2003 08:31 PM
The original singer/songwriter is Marc Cohn, it was relased on his self-titled album.
Posted by Lane at September 6, 2003 11:24 PM
I remember a single version back around 1990-91 (?) that got some radio air play on the stations around Wheeling WV. It was not the version off of Carl Cohns album. The DJs in Wheeling claimed the record was performed by a local guy from the Wheeling/Elm Grove West Virginia area. Ed

Its all about the Happy Hardcore version on VGT #2..
"Put on my dancin shoes and I set out again.."
"Everybody was happy, ecstacy shinin down on me. Yeah, I got a first class ticket, I felt as good as anyone could feel.."
with the chorus "I'M RAVIN, I'M RAVIN!"

Marc Cohn wrote 'Walking in Memphis' about his trip to Tennessee in the late Eighties. It's a tale of musical salvation in which Marc grows disillusioned about music after a visit to Graceland, but is revitalised by a chance visit to the Hollywood Cafe in Robinsville whereupon he sings with an African-American Gospel singer by the name of Muriel, hence the line "Muriel plays piano every Friday at the Hollywood". The only contribuation Cher made to the song was to completely ruin it!
for more info on Marc visit www.marccohn.org. Cheers

Marc Cohn came before Cher, not sure if he's the original singer or not

I saw the episode of X-Files last night on late night tv where Cher sings at the end. I really like that episode, too; as I had seen it before. It did stir my curiosity once more about who originally performed/wrote "Walking in Memphis". I was almost certain it wasn't Cher (although I like her vision, and I am no fan of hers). I guess it was Marc Cohn, as I haven't found anything to the contrary. I just started watching X-files routinely in reruns. As I haven't seen many, it can be hard to follow!

Moooooose!
About five years ago my brother Russell and I were watching a nature program, probably on The Discovery Channel. The whole program was about moose (I swear the plural should be meese, but that's not the point) and the last portion of it focused on a woman that had devoted her whole life to studying moose. At one point she's standing on a riverbank and there's this big ass moose in the river not too far from her. She reaches down and picks up this pair of antlers that she had with her and holds them up to her head. She then starts wading out towards the moose in the river who's been watching this whole thing. I was totally mystified. Like this moose is going to be thinking, "What the hell is that lady doing just standing there? (She puts the antlers up to her head) Whoa! Where'd the lady go? Where did that other moose come from?" My brother and I were just cracking up. I told my brother, "Does she really think that's going to work? Think if the moose put a hat on his head and went into the middle of the street people would wonder what happened to the moose?"
For years that story has made me crack up whenever I see a moose. I shared my story with Steven last year and he completely shattered my illusions. He said a moose would be fooled by the lady and her antlers. Apparently, to a moose, the equation is simple:
Antlers = Moose

Horoscope For the Day
Today's horoscope is:
Pisces has a hard time getting out of bed and an even harder time getting motivated to start the day. Wherever your energy went doesn't really matter, because it's gone now. Cancel or reschedule all of your appointments if possible. If you can somehow convince others to carry things for a few days, you'll be free to drift. You don't have to be completely idle during this down time. Catch up on your reading or rent a movie you missed when it was in the theater.
I really have been dragging this week. Both yesterday and today it was all I could do to actually get out of bed and go to work. Must be the cosmic forces aligning against me. ;-) So, who volunteers to come do my work for me so I can go home? Anyone?

I'm feeling good tonight. I got $70 for the jean study, got first place in another poker tournament at Paradise Poker, and it's basically Friday. :-) I hope everyone else is having a good night! It's All in the Jeans, Baby!
I'm getting ready to leave work a little early today because I am participating in a focus group about jean trends and what I think is hot and what isn't. I absolutely love focus groups. I'm getting $70 to talk about what I want for two hours. You just can't beat that. :-) I am the queen of focus groups and surveys. I've won large drawings ($500 one time, $100 twice, and various $50 and $25 drawings) for surveys I've done and have been paid up to $125 to give someone my opinion. I love making my feelings known to companies who actually listen to what I have to say (at least one hopes they do since they're paying me!).

WTF Is Wrong With People?
I found this news article while surfing today: first-grader wrecks car with dad at his side.
‹rant›What the hell is wrong with people? I drives me crazy the way I see people exercising no control over the screaming, obnoxious, self-centered brats. I must admit I'm not a big fan of children (gasp!), but it seems to me that people are not bothering to raise their children at all. You are the parent. You are supposed to teach your children to behave in public and to respect people around them. Is it any wonder that the world seems to be heading for hell in a handbasket? If I would have behaved the way that I see lots of kids behaving when I was their age, I would have been in big trouble, believe you me. I am definitely not for being a total dictator to your kids, but they do have to have some discipline. And for all parents that bring their children into R-rated movies - quit doing it! I cannot remember the last movie that I've seen in the past three years that didn't have a small child or baby in it. Please, show the people around you some common courtesy.‹/rant ›

This is one of the reasons why we wait for the DVD, as opposed to paying $8-$9 for a movie.
I love Harry Potter...read all the books. But no way in hell was I going to see the movie in the theater, as I imagine the hell it would be.
But the point is...even if it IS a kid's movie...that is still no excuse for kids to make noise and run rampant through the theater.
And any parent who brings small children into R-rated movies should be taken out and shot. Period.
Posted by Christine at February 20, 2002 05:20 PM
Kids in R-rated movies is just WRONG. (Oh, except the time I did it because I thought the movie was PG, but it was during the afternoon!) As for Harry Potter though, I am really glad we saw that in the theater. All of the kids were great, but it was the afternoon it came out and there were a ton of adults there because the kids were still in class. Except mine, since I took him out of school early...
Posted by Christine at February 21, 2002 12:32 AM
A big reason that I took the day off from work to go see Harry Potter and went to the earliest showing was to avoid as many children as possible. I love seeing some kid's movies (Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Harry Potter, etc.), but most of the time the desire to have a nice movie-going experience causes me to just catch it on video.
Posted by Kymberlie R. McGuire at February 21, 2002 01:07 AM
I do SO agree Kymberlie. WTF is WRONG with kids (and their parents!!) these days?? What happened to common sense and good manners? To being helpful to others? It's unbelievable. I could go on like this for hours. I won't. Plus, you pretty much covered it. :)

It's About Time
As the clock ticks over from 8:01 PM on Wednesday, February 20th, 2002, time will (for sixty seconds only) read in perfect symmetry. To be more precise: 20:02, 20/02, 2002. It is an event which has only ever happened once before, and is something which will never be repeated. The last occasion that time read in such a symmetrical pattern was long before the days of the digital watch (or the 24-hour clock): 10:01 AM, on January 10, 1001. And because the clock only goes up to 23.59, it is something that will never happen again.

What Spirit Are You?
I'm a Wind Spirit!
Thought above feeling and mind over matter are your mottos. Others come to you for advice and guidance. Some see you as introverted and snobbish, but they are merely jealous of your common sense knack to think things through. Don't be afraid to listen to your heart though.
Don't really think this one is very me. People do come for me for advice, but I definitely put feelings in front of thought and I don't think I have all that much common sense. Oh, well. The image is the prettiest of the four!

Font Preview
I know there are programs out there that lets you preview fonts, including ones that aren't installed in your font directory. Anyone care to share one with me?

I highly recommend FontLister for a at-home-free-kinda-program!! I have my fonts sorted by type into folders, and it lets me open a folder in FL, and it temporarily loads the fonts in that folder to memory. So if I know I'm gonna use a fancy font, I load that folder before getting into Photoshop :) And then I can preview and stuff right inside FL :)
Hmmm, I should post this info on my site - I bet other people could use this :)

The Kiss
The new skin is up and running, so check it out. It's basically the fishbowl layout with different colors and a different image, but since it was my first attempt at skinning and I was really just trying to figure out the CSS, it accomplised what it needed to. I may go through and make new titles for it later and tweak the colors a bit more. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to leave them!

Human For Sale
While going through some old e-mail, I stumbled accross Human For Sale - How much are you worth? You go and answer demographic questions and they calculate your value. I am worth $2,146,002.00. The average value for a female is $1,630,625.00. How do you rank?

Ok, I think you lied. How on earth did you end up being worth so much? *wink* I don't remember what mine was - I did it long ago, it's in the blog archives somewhere...

Testing - One, Two, Three
Just a note, but I am trying to create a new skin for the site. It's not going to be very impressive, but I am mostly just trying to figure out this whole skin thing. :-) If you see some funky stuff, please bear with me!
