Firefly: Gold Deal Box of the Day
I didn't start watching Firefly until it was cancelled, but I rented the show, became a huge fan, and promptly bought them from Amazon.
While a lot of the Amazon Gold Box Deals are kind of lame, today's deal is the complete series of Firefly on sale for only $19.99!
I know these deals sale out, so if you were planning on ever adding this to your movie collection, now's the time!

Two Winners in The Box
I forgot to mention, but this week, I got two great Amazon.com Gold Box Offers that I could refuse.
The first was for The Hunt for Red October (Special Edition) on DVD. It's been on my mind ever since Steven and I watch a submarine program on The Science Channel earlier this week, so I snapped it up and added Field of Dreams so I could qualify for free shipping. Can't wait for them to come in.
The second item was even better and one I can't believe they even put on sale - The Animatrix Gift Set (includes the CD soundtrack). We've watched some of these on the web and they are just incredible. It's going to make a perfect surprise gift for Steven since I told them they weren't coming out on DVD at all. If you're a fan of animation or The Matrix, I highly recommend them. I paired it with This Pen for Hire: A Jaine Austen Mystery by Laura Levine since it comes out in paperback at about the same time.
Some great stuff coming my way soon from Amazon!

Winos Wanted
Kind of funny, but three of the items in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers were wine-related. Shame I don't drink the stuff!
.: Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 3-1/2-Quart Windsor Saucepan with Lid: I'm pretty sure I've checked with Steven on saucepans before and he never expressed any interest in getting one. Good price, though.

.: Compaq 18.2GB Hot-Plug Universal Hard Drive Ultra SCSI 3 Internal 10,000 RPM: I'm not even sure I know what this is since there was no description for the product. Pass.
.: Haier BC112G 30-Bottle Wine Cellar with Contoured Smoked Glass Door: I don't drink wine, so this isn't something that I would really need. For some strange reason, though, I've always thought these things are cool (Get it? Cool. It's a refrigerator. I kill me!).
.: Metrokane Rabbit Corkscrew with Foilcutter, Silver: again, I don't drink wine, so not something I need. Pass.
.: Cuisinart 3-1/2-Quart Nonstick Stainless Steel Saute Pan with Lid and Helper Handle: another cooking utensil that I don't think Steven needs.
.: Sangean DT-110 Digital Pocket AM/FM Stereo Receiver: I never really listen to the radio, so I can't see the point of owning a pocket radio. Pass.
.: Calphalon Professional Nonstick II 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Lid: I bought Steven a Wolfgang Puck set of utensils about a year and a half ago, so I'm pretty certain he already has one of these.
.: Riedel Vinum Chardonnay/Chablis Wine Glasses, Set of 6: let me repeat again, I don't drink wine. Pass.
.: Emerilware 2-Piece Starter Set: Steven has a set of knives that he loves now, so I don't think he would need these. Pass.
.: Mikasa Grand Prix Dinnerware 20-Piece Sets, Service for 4: I love Mikasa, but that is a truly bizarre pattern. I so don't like it.

DVD in The Gold Box
I was checking out my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today when I was presented with a DVD that I feel is essential to any collection - Trading Places.
How can you not love this movie? It was about $15 so I jumped at the chance to add it to my DVD collection.

By the way - that's not a vacuum. It's a carpet steamer, and it ROCKS. My mom has one and I love using it - it makes my carpets look like new!

I used to post my Gold Box offers too, until I figured out a couple of things. Not only do they not offer items you might actually like (which they could do, using their Recommendations feature), but they offer almost exactly the same things to everyone. The Gold Box has a lot of potential as a moneymaker, but until they offer me things I might actually want to buy, I'm not going to purchase anything!

Two in a Row
What can I say? I'm weak, so I made an order for the second day in a row from my Amazon.com Gold Box.
I was offered Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Second Season on DVD for about $10.00 off. This is another one of those shows that I knew I would love, but never got around to watching. I guess I'll get to finally see it now. :-)

So are you going to watch season 2 before season 1? I guess I did; I started watching reruns of season 2 right before season 3 started, and only saw season 1 when it came out on syndication years later. :giggle: So if you have questions, you know where to come... I'm kinda a buffy authority ;) tee hee!
Posted by kristine at January 17, 2003 03:33 AM
Yay! See, this is what comes of reading via RSS feeds. ;) I didn't come through your front door to know you'd decided this already.
Posted by Lisa, Gal of Unix at January 17, 2003 06:49 AM
you have to get all caught up now, Kymberlie!!! you need to watch Season 1 before Season 2.. and then buy Season 3... because it's out, too.
let's just say that the gals at the Bite Me blog (me and miss Kadyellebee up there included) are those with Buffy authority. LOL :D
and you can stop by my other blog for scoop as well. i've been a fan since day one! :)
Posted by Kathy at January 17, 2003 12:10 PM
I bought this from my gold box the day before you! :) I've got third season already, but I want to watch them all from the beginning, so I still need first season. If I don't get it for my birthday, then I'll buy it after that.

Should I or Shouldn't I?
In my Amazon Gold Box I just got offered Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Second Season on DVD for $10 off.
I have never seen Buffy, but everything I've heard about it indicates that I would love it. Now I have an hour to decide: should I or shouldn't I buy it? Hmmm.

Posted by Lisa, Gal of Unix at January 17, 2003 06:48 AM
I would vote YES on that one (though I see you went for it already). I just got "into" Buffy last season and have been trying to catch up via reruns - it isn't easy. The DVDs will help you a lot. Who knows, you may even want to watch the new shows too!

Right Out of The Box
I ordered the first item out of my Amazon.com Gold Box today.
I was offered Twin Peaks - The First Season (Special Edition) DVDs for $5.00 off. While I never got to watch the show, knowing what the types of things that I like, I have always thought that Twin Peaks would be right up my alley. A few gift certificates later and the first season is mine for a mere $5.00 and change. Now, does anyone have the pilot they can loan me?

Ooooohhhhh...I LOVE Twin Peaks! I think you will enjoy it, too!
One of the things that Mike brought into the marriage is a boxed VHS set of the entire series. We also have the pilot (also on VHS), which we'd be happy to lend to you.
Let me know if you want me to send it to you...I still have your address from the postcard exchange, and can get it out to you right away.

The Gold Box of The Day
I hadn't shared my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers lately, so here's what was in The Box today.
.: Calphalon Commercial Nonstick Collector's Edition 10-Inch International Griddle/Crepe Pan: Steven already makes excellent crepes, so no need to get a pan just for that purpose.

.: Panasonic PV-D4752 DVD/VCR Combo: we don't need one of these since we already have a DVD player and never watch VHS tapes anymore.
.: Spiegelau Authentis White Wine Glasses, Set of 6: neither of us drink wine, so I'm going to pass on this.
.: Philips AE215517 AM/FM/TV Weatherband Portable Radio: I don't think we have any need for this, so pass.
.: Oxford Garden Designs Adirondack Chair: living in a condo, we don't have a yard, so we don't need one of these.
.: 24" Ladies 18 Speed Grand Ledge Mountain Bike: I like to joke that the most outdoorsy I get is the top down on my Miata. I so am not going to use a mountain bike.
.: AudioSource SW Fifteen 200-Watt Powered Subwoofer: we already have some nice Klipsh speakers in the living room. Pass.
.: KitchenAid KSB5 5-Speed Blender, White: we already have a blender and it works just fine.
.: Pacific Coast 3 Diamond Blakely Down Comforter, King: I would love to have one of these, but Steven said no. They are a bit expensive.
.: Cuisinart WMB-2A 2-Slice Belgian Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless: this looks nice, but since I won Capresso WaffleDUO and a Component Design Northwest Multitask Digital Timer & Clock last April, there's no need for another one.

.: Canon ZR40 MiniDV Digital Camcorder with 2.5" LCD, & Digital Still Mode: I still want a camcorder. Anyone care to purcahse one for me? ;-)
.: GoVideo DDV3110 Dual Deck 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR: we never use VCRs anymore and even if we did, we have like three of them in the house already.
.: Vacu Vin Guy Buffet Rapid Ice Wine Chiller, Sommeliers: we don't drink wine, so we don't really need a wine chiller. It could come in handy, though, for chilling shots if we didn't have a cold bottle around.
.: Juiceman JMS6 Blender with Variable Infinite Speeds: Steven already has a blender that works pretty well, so I'm going to pass on this.

Pasta, Anyone?
The first product in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today was a Villaware Imperia Pasta Machine. Steven and I have watched a lot of Iron Chef together and he's always impressed when the chefs make their own pasta, so as soon as I saw this, I called him up at his poker game and asked him how interested he might be in making his own. When he found out that it was super cheap thanks to The Gold Box, he said it would make a great gift so I bought it for him and Jemima J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans for me (hey, I to get free shipping I had to make another purchase. It was completely self-less!). Cool little gadget, huh?

.: Metrokane Houdini Corkscrew, Blue: we don't drink wine, so this isn't really useful for us. It did see cool, though.
.: KitchenAid KSM110PS Custom 300-Watt 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer, Metallic Chrome: this looked bad ass and Steven said it was a great deal, but we just don't have space in the kitchen for any more appliances (damn small condo). Maybe when we get a house.
.: WMF Profi Plus Stainless Steel Can Opener: nice can opener, but we already have one like this.
.: Krups 867-42 Il Caffe Bistro 10-Cup Coffee/4-Cup Espresso Maker: if you like coffee, this looks like the mac daddy of coffee makers.
.: Microsoft MSDN Universal Subscription 7.0: no need for this. Pass.

The Gold Box
Mostly items of no interest in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today, but the movie I was offered did give me pause.
.: Uniden 2.4GHz Cordless Speakerphone (TRU3466): it seems like all the phones in our house are crappy. Either they don't stay charged very long, they get really bad static, or something else goes wrong with them. Maybe it's time to look into getting a different one.

.: HoMedics ES-1 Envira-Spa Aroma & Sound Machine: I am very sensitive to scents and lately have been getting really bad migraines because of them. I am almost tempted to buy this and see if using the aromatheraphy when I have a headache would make me feel better.
.: Canon S830D Photo Printer: I have a pretty good printer, though it's been acting up lately, so I am going to pass on this.

Bizarreness in The Gold Box
I very strange toy in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today, but nothing to intice me to make a purchase.

.: Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer: by far the best mouse you can buy. If you don't have one of these, you should.

.: Farberware Classic 6-Quart Stockpot with Lid: this was a really good deal, but since Steven doesn't need one, I'm going to pass.
.: Dirt Devil 082600 Vision Bagless Canister Vacuum: looks like a great vacuum, but we're not in the market for one right now.
.: GoVideo DVR4200 DVD/VCR Combo: we just bought a DVD player a few months back, so I don't need to get another one right now.
.: Panasonic SC-HT75 CD Home Theater Mini System: this looked awesome, but since we have most of the components anyway, I'm going to pass on taking this offer.

I'm a sucker for cheap DVDs in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers, so I made a purchase today.

.: WMF Manhattan Stainless Steel Cocktail Shaker with Built-In Strainer: checked with Steven just last night and he said he didn't need one of these since the one he already owns works fine.
.: Action Man Mega Figure: Jungle Dart: I don't have any kids, but even if I did, I don't think I'd buy them this weird toy.
.: Farberware Millennium Satin Enamel Nonstick 12-Piece Cookware Set, Steel Blue: these look like great pots, but since I bought Steven a whole set just over a year ago, I'm going to pass. Love the color, though.

You've NEVER seen Law & Order? Oh, try it. Especially the Sunday Night version, Law & Order: Criminal Intent with Vincent D'Onofrio. Excellent TV.

OMG, you had just about the same stuff I had. I haven't ever seen L & O either! I almost bought the wireless access card, but, I'm holding out as Greg promised me the wireless network for Christmas. It's hard to sit on your hands and surf! *LOL*

we just started watching L&O this year, and we're hooked. and I never miss a sunday night episode.
Posted by that tart at November 22, 2002 10:07 PM
I watch all 3 L&O series now - the first season of the original show is different in some ways then the present episodes. They run the old episodes on TNT (I think) if you ever want to catch them.

.: Pajama Fun Skipper Doll: once more, no kids. Pass, pass, pass.

Considering The Gold Box
Several repeats my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today and a few products that had me seriously considering buying them.
.: Zojirushi NS-KCC05 Micom Programmable 3-Cup Rice Cooker & Warmer: mmmm. Rice. This little item got great reviews and isn't too expensive. Nice.

.: Hamilton Beach 04161 TrueAir HEPA Air Purifier with UV Germicidal Light: I think I got offered this last week. Still don't need one.
.: The Outer Limits - The Original Series: man, I am so tempted to buy this. If it wasn't Christmas time, I probably would. As it is, if it shows up one more time, I definitely will.
.: The Powerpuff Girls Bubbles Room Guard: once again, this kind of necessitates having a kid. Pass.
.: Mikasa Libretto Stoneware Covered Sugar Bowl: okay pattern, but not really my cup of tea.
.: J.K. Adams Maple Herb Bowl and Mezzaluna Chopper Set: this was really nice looking and, if Steven did more herb mincing, I would probably get this for him. As it is, I'm going to WishList it so I can remember to see if he needs one in the future.
.: Sony DCRTRV27 MiniDV Digital Handycam Camcorder w/ 3.5" LCD, MPEG EX, Memory Stick & Mega Pixel Video/ Still: Steven and I don't have a camcorder, though I'm sure we'll aquire one in the near future. Excellent reviews on this one make it a likely candidate.
.: Timex T463G Weather Alert Triple Alarm Clock Radio: not in the market for one of these. Pass.

.: Calphalon Commercial Hard-Anodized 7-Piece Cookware Set: awesome looking cookware, but I don't think Steven needs seven more items of this nature.
.: Skate Value Pack with Pads, Backpack, & Bottle-Size 1: no kids, so really going to have to pass on this.
.: Leatherman 61110003 Sideclip: this thing looks like a torture device. I have no need for tools of this nature.

.: Kuhn Rikon 4-Piece Duromatic Duo Pressure Cooker Set: I think this is something that actually might interest Steven, but I'm going to pass since he's already getting aCuisinart ICE-20 1-1/2-Quart Automatic Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt & Sorbet Maker for Christmas.

Sony is a better DVD player and the price is not too high. Toshiba is also a good buy for a dvd player. Though this also depends on how cheap they want their DVD player for.

I actually have the Envision 5100e 15" LCD monitor. I just got it in September for my birthday. It's booootiful, and it's one of the cheapest LCD monitors out there. I got mine at Costco for $300.
BTW, 15" on an LCD monitor == to 17" on a CRT (regular) monitor. What that translates to is that a 15" LCD has a standard resolution of 1024x768 :)
Posted by theresa at November 7, 2002 10:48 PM
oh, one other thing I should mention since I just noticed you play computer games - LCD monitors don't have a very high refresh rate, so that you can get unclear pictures when playing games.
*did her research* :)

Tiny Gold Box
For some reason, my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers stopped working, so today's list is a short one.
.: SONICblue Rio 600 64 MB Digital Audio Player (MP3/WMA): I've been thinking that the mp3 player I won online (the RCA RD1000 Kazoo Digital Audio Player) isn't really going to work for what I need, so I'm half toying with the idea of buying one. This one looks nice, but the reviews were mixed.
.: Le Creuset 2-5/8-Quart Soup Pot, Blue: I don't think Steven really needs a soup pot, but the color on this was really beautiful.
.: Tanita 2201 Super Ultimate Body Fat Monitor and Scale: I've been thinking, since I've wanted to be more serious about losing some weight, that I should get a scale. I've always been kind of sceptical about how accurate a body fat reading on one of these is. It also stores personal data for two users and that is a great feature.

The Return of The Gold Box

.: Oregon Scientific RGR122 Cable Free Long Range Rain Gauge: okay, I guess this is kind of neat, but why would you need it unless you're a meterologist?
.: Henckels Pro S 9-Piece High Carbon Stainless Steel Knife Set with Block: wow. A list price of $550 for some knives. Seems excessive unless you're a cook.
.: Critter Cape-Pink Flamingo: I personally find this very creepy. Why would you wrap your baby in this?
.: Midland G-28 GMRS Radio with NiMH Batteries and Wall Charger : I just don't need one of these. Pass.
.: Lodge 12-Inch Cast Iron Skillet: $9.00 for a skillet. Sounds like a deal to me.

.: Cuisinart ICE-20 1-1/2-Quart Automatic Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt & Sorbet Maker, White: now this looks cool (pardon the pun). To make homemade ice cream, you don't even need salt or ice! It even has an opening to put toppings in. If I was in the market for one of these, I'd snap this baby up.
.: Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus Game: this looks okay, I guess, but I'm not all that interested.

Gold Box Winner
I was browsing through my Amazon.com Gold Box offers when I was offered Sleepless in Seattle (Special Edition) for $8.97. It was only an extra $2.24 off, but I've always loved that movie and couldn't resist picking it up new for under $10. Maybe I'll start seeing cheap DVDs in my Gold Box offers and Amazon will start seeing even more of my business. Anyone else bought anything from their Gold Box as of late?

Yes! I bought something from my Gold Box last night for the very first time... Legally Blonde on DVD! Like you, I hope they start putting good stuff in there. I'm sick of seeing crap I'll never buy!

Fifteen Misses
Nothing enticing my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers for today.
.: Plastair PUW650B93OT Transparent Ocean Blue 50' SpringHose: looks like a Slinky, but it's a tool. Pass.
.: Taylor Digital Oven Thermometer/Timer: I won one of these a while back online with my Belgium waffle maker. I don't think Steven's used it yet, so no idea if he would need another one.
.: Antique Roadshow Board Game: I'm fairly certain they offered this to me before. I had no interest then and I have no interest now.
.: Riedel Vinum Gourmet Glasses, Set of 6: we don't drink wine and I didn't think the glasses looked that nice, so I'm going to pass.
.: Lentek PC8PG MoleControl: this must be the third or fourth item I've gotten to control moles. Since I don't have a yard, I don't have a mole problem.
.: Mikasa Manor Lane stoneware 20 piece set: these plates were okay, but I wouldn't spend $100 on them, even if it is a huge discount from their regular price.
.: Bebe Sounds Prenatal Listener - Deluxe Gift Set: I have no kids and don't plan to, so I have no need for this.
.: Marvin's Magic Game: I have gotten this thing like three times. Pass, pass, pass.
.: IngersollSimpleTech STI-USM100 Smart Media Reader: I already have a card reader for both types of media, so I don't need this.
.: Thrustmaster Nascar Pro Force Feedback Racing Wheel: I have absolutely no desire to play any game that would require one of these.
.: Porter-Cable 743-K 7-1/4", 15 Amp Framer's Saw with Carrying Case: yeah, don't need a portable saw for anything (unless I finally go postal at work and pull a Leatherface).
.: KDS Rad-5 15" LCD Monitor: as much as I like these, I can't justify spending $350 for a 15" monitor when I'm happy with my 19".
.: Bucket Boss Brand 06005 Contractor's Briefcase: I don't have any tools, so I certainly don't need a briefcase to carry tools in.
.: Lakeland Mills CF1125 Cedar Log Rocking Chair: looks too rustic for my taste. Don't like the look of this chair at all.
.: WMF Balance 5-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Hostess Set: I'm not really the type to host a dinner party or anything else of that nature, so I'll pass on these.

Early Morning in The Box
A few cool mp3 players in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers, but I passed on all of today's items.
.: Gerber 07563 MP600 Pro-Scout: man, that thing looked like some kind of torture device! Pass.
.: Leatherman 74204003 Juice CS4: yeah, I so need a swiss army watch type thing. Pass.
.: Magic 8 Ball Party Game: I got this one other time and could never figure out what the "game" part of this game actually was. Magic 8 Balls are always cool, though.
.: Campbell Hausfeld HV2050 Finishing System: they said this was great for serious interior and exterior painting projects, but since I don't have any of those going on, I'm going to pass.
.: Rio Riot 20 GB Digital Audio Player (MP3/WMA): since I won an mp3 player several months ago (when is it going to arrive already?), I'll pass on getting this even though it seems very cool.
.: Kodak Advantix Preview APS Camera: since I love my Sony DSC-P71 Cyber-Shot, I'm going to pass on getting another camera.
.: Creative Labs 10 GB Nomad Jukebox MP3 Player: like I just mentioned, going to wait until I get the mp3 player I won before looking at any others.
.: Accutire MS-4000GB Deluxe Backlit Lithium Digital Tire Gauge: this just seemed like overkill to me. The "latest technology in digital air-pressure measurement." Whatever.
.: Ingersoll-Rand IR-2131 1/2" Ultra Duty Air Impact Wrench: not in the market for tools, thank you very much.
.: Porter-Cable 97529 2 HP Heavy-Duty, Electronic Variable Speed Plunge Router Kit: I don't even know what this does. Pass.
.: Milwaukee 6547-22 2.4-Volt 2-Speed Cordless Screwdriver: since we just borrow my parents' whenever we need one of these, I'll save my $100.
.: Black & Decker 9074CTN 3.6 Volt Screwdriver: enough with the tools already.
.: Freud SH-5 Professional Micro-Adjustable Router Table Fence: didn't I just say enough with the tools already?
.: Yamaha PSRGX76AD 76-Note Touch-Sensitive Portable Electronic Keyboard with AC Adapter: I had a keyboard when I was a kid and I loved it. Don't really want one now, though.
.: Ryobi 132R Electric Grass TrimmerPlus with SpeedSpool: of course we had to round out the Gold Box with a tool for a lawn I don't have.

Fifteen in The Box
Well, since at least one person showed interesting in me continuing to post my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers, I went ahead and did all fifteen from today. I may try and post the three most interesting or something like that; doing all fifteen was a pain!
.: Linksys 4-Port Cable/DSL Router: I still have all my router needs fulfilled, so no need to buy one of these.
.: Matchbox Rescue Backpack: I believe this is the third time I've been offered one of these. I'm still going to have to pass on it.
.: P3 International P7906 Vibrasonic Molechaser: can you guess what I thought of the first time I saw this thing and read the word "vibrate"? I have no yard, so I have no moles, so I have no need for this.
.: Disney Guesswords Game: this looks slightly interesting (basically the game Passwords with a Disney theme), but with it being just me and Steven, not a lot of use would be gotten out of this.
.: Dream Star Game: I still don't need any children's toys. when will they stop offering them to me?
.: Super Soaker Ultimate Gift Pack: I've always loved Super Soakers, but with no yard and no one to play with, I'll have to pass on this one.
.: Storm 2000 Monsoon Force 4: another Super Soaker. Going to pass on this one too.
.: Fein 9-11-20 Wet/Dry 6-Gallon Vacuum: still not in the market for a vacuum, no matter how many times they're going to offer me one.
.: Brita 35611 3-Quart Deluxe Water Filtration Pitcher: we've already got a Brita filter, so we don't need another.
.: Marvin's Magic Game: how many kid's toys can they offer me in one box? Pass.
.: Tot Block Pack 'n Play: this was kind of nice looking, but still, no kids.
.: Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 12-Quart Stockpot with Lid: I've checked with Steven before and he says he doesn't need a stockpot.
.: West Bend 41077 Just For Dinner Breadmaker: some day, I may get one of these. A breadmaker sounds so cool.
.: Glider Rocker - Striped Denim: I have definitely gotten this in the pass. As I said then, glider rockers are incredible, but I don't want one that looks like it belongs in a nursery.
.: Norelco 7885 XL Quadra Action Cord/Cordless Men's Shaver with LCD Meter, Silver: Steven is happy enough with his razor that I couldn't justify spending over $100 on a new one.

Do you ever wonder how they chose the items they send you in a gold box?
Do you think they might get a clue and possibly send you only items similar to what you have in the wishlist?
IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
Posted by pero at September 15, 2002 11:38 PM
I got the cable modem/router thingy in my gold box too. (along with it looks like 5 other things you got too. LOL!) I thought about it for about 30 minutes, but decided against it because I don't know if it will work with Cox (or even if I can /get/ cable internet here in my subdivision.)

The Bigger Gold Box
Just like Christine, I had fifteen offers instead of the normal five in my Amazon.com Gold Box offers today. I don't have the patience to put all fifteen of them into a post, so I am probably going to stop posting my Gold Box offers here on my blog unless I get something worth buying. Maybe with the ten extra offers, that will happen more often now.

My second Amazon.com Gold Box Offers for the day started off well with a computer-related item, but quickly descended to nothing buy tools and baby offers.

Victory in The Box!
Today, I bought the first thing offered in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers.
.: Apex AD-800 Progressive Scan DVD Player: Steven and I have a DVD player that I bought for him for Christmas in 1999. It's been very temperamental the last eight months or so and will only play a DVD when it feels like it. Basically you have to sit in front of it, insert the disc, wait for it to say no disc found, eject the disc, blow on it, put it in again, curse when it can't find it and repeat the steps ad naseum. We'd been talking about getting another one so when I got one in my offers for $89.99 that seemed to have a lot of good features, I jumped at getting it. Couple that with the fact that I had just gotten a $50 gift certificate from wKen and it just seemed like fate.
Here's to hoping I get more offers worth taking advantage of!

I was reading about this over at Jish's. I went and checked mine, and it looks like the little gold box has gone bye-bye.
I guess Amazon was upset that no one seemed to buy anything. Maybe if they offered us stuff we were actually interested in, we would have bought stuph???
Still, I'm gonna miss it.
Posted by Christine at August 22, 2002 08:32 PM
I haven't seen mine recently, either. I hope to god they bring them back...'bout a month ago, I was just absentmindedly flipping through them, and I was offered an Olympus Camedia D-40 4.0 megapixel camera for the totally ludicrous price of $250. Their regular price is currently $549. I can't find it *anywhere* on the web for less than about $450. I swear it was a mistake, but that didn't stop me from jumping on it, anyway. Receipt available for inspection!

.: Harley-Davidson Barbie #4: this is just weird. A $60 biker Barbie. Very strange indeed. If you look at the close-up they have of her, she looks drugged. Very scary eye make-up too.
.: Porter-Cable 97366 6" Variable Speed Sander Kit with Dust Collection Hood: another tool (of course). Pass.

Variable Gold Box
Lots of variation in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today, but nothing that I had to have.
.: Bathing and Grooming Kit: I don't have a kid, so there is no reason for me to buy a baby bathing and grooming kit. When will they catch on to the fact that I don't have any kids?
.: L.R. Nelson 1855 Mini Rain Traveling Sprinkler: I don't have a lawn, so no need for a lawn sprinkler.
.: Apex AD-800 Progressive Scan DVD Player: Steven and I have a DVD player, but it's been acting very temperamental for the last several months. I wouldn't mind getting another one, but the reviews on this one weren't so good. I'm going to have to pass.
.: Polder Cooking Thermometer with Timer & Clock: I think Steven could use of one these, but the reviews were mixed making me not want to spend my money on this one.
.: Omni Swings n' Things 510 Rope Hammock Chair, Natural: I would like to have a hammock, but until we get a house and I have some place to put it, I'm going to have to continue passing on these.

Sunday Offers
More items to pass on in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers.
.: JET JWTS-10JF / 708301GK 10" Table Saw with JETFence includes 10" Carbide Blade a $40.00 Value: good Lord! Another $500 tool. Pass, pass, pass.
.: Zojirushi BBCC-V20 Home Bakery Traditional Breadmaker: I've always kind of thought that it would be cool to have a breadmaker. I've heard that they're easy to use, even for people with no cooking skills like me. Maybe some day I'll get one.
.: Panasonic SL-SW895 Shockwave Portable CD Player: is it just me or does this thing look like that old electronic game Simon?
.: Little People Press 'n Go Remote Control Vehicle: still don't need any toys, especially one that got ratings as crappy as this one.
.: Porter-Cable 352VS 3" x 21" Belt Sander with Dust Bag: another freaking tool. How many ways can I say no to these things?

Saturday's Box Part II
I got two Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today, but didn't find anything to buy in this one either.
.: Oneida Bancroft 20-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4: nice enough pattern, but not particulary impressed by it.
.: Storm 2000 Monsoon Force 4: now that we have Bella, our new cat, I've had people tell me that getting a squirt gun is a good way to discourage your cat doing something you don't want her to do. This seems like it might be overkill, though.
.: Vornado 610W Whole Room Air Circulator, Whitestone: have no need for one of these.
.: Fein 9-11-20 Wet/Dry 6-Gallon Vacuum: still not in the market for a vacuum.
.: Bob the Builder Workshop: no kids, no need for this.

Saturday's Box
More stuff in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers, some of it kind of interesting.
.: Zojirushi EJ-PC50 Gourmet Food Steamer: I think this is one of the few kitchen tools that I've been offered that might actually be useful to us.
.: Fiestaware Cobalt 831 4-Piece Place Setting: more cool Fiestaware, but I like the Cinnabar color better.
.: Leatherman 70202003 Juice S2: another tool that I'm going to pass on.
.: That Wine Is Mine "Vineyard" Wine Glass Charms, Set of 6: neither Steven or I drink wine. Pass.
.: Black & Decker FT1000 FlexTube Blower/Sweeper: another tool I don't need.

I stumbled across your site a while ago and decided this morning that it was time to check back in to see what new scruples were being tested and if there were any more “group thingsâ€.
For some reason, I had trouble getting through and got a Check Your Connection message from my browser.
I was worried.
I was considering sending an email to see if the page was moved or abandoned. Then for whatever reason the page came up normally after one more try. I was relieved and clicked on Amazon.com Gold Box Offers just to see what I would see and there was this novel:
"The Lovely Bones
On her way home from school on a snowy December day in 1973, 14-year-old Susie Salmon ("like the fish") is lured into a makeshift underground den in a cornfield and brutally raped and murdered, the latest victim of a serial killer--the man she knew as her neighbor, Mr. Harvey."
"Salmon Like the fish", I thought as I returned to the bowl and my own neuroses kicked in. I thought about how I was worried when the page didn't load. For a moment, I was sort of annoyed with myself for letting my imagination run away with me as if “Mr. Harvey†might have had something to do with my crappy browser but then I realized it was really an amazing phenomenon.
I’m really glad that I was worried about you when your page didn’t load. I hope nothing bad ever happens to you.
I wasn’t worried about the fictional Salmon girl in the book but in some weird way, this Internet technology, your weblog, Amazon’s Gold Box and two sets of memories of childhood Ukrainian nesting dolls enable some crazy international, transcontinental sympathy.
It’s just nice to realize that it is possible to care about people half a world away whom I have never met. A thought like that this early in the morning sort of renews my sense of hope for humanity.
Thank you for giving me that thought.
Have a nice day and take care.

A Few More Temptations
A few interesting items in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers for once.
.: Astonica 50120003 Cast Swivel Bar Stool: this is kind of pretty, but I don't know if I would spend $90 for a bar stool. Plus, it doesn't go with out decor.
.: Olympus Stylus Epic QD CG Date 35mm Camera: I wouldn't mind having a regular camera, but I'm not sure if this is the one I would choose.
.: Euro-Pro Shark EP76 Compact Bagless Canister Vacuum: still not in the market for a vacuum.
.: Fiestaware Cinnabar 831 4-Piece Place Setting: I've always liked Fiestaware and this is a cool color. If I was in the market for new plates (just bought some not too long ago), I would seriously consider these.
.: Ryobi GS12V - 12-Volt Cordless Grass Shears: again, I don't have a yard so therefore I don't have any grass.

Another day of disappointing things my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers.
.: Wagner Power Products 290 Wide Shot Power Painter: why can't they see that I will never buy a power tool from them and quit offering them to me?
.: Lifetime Folding Picnic Table for 4, Bronze/Sage: sold out. Wasn't interested anyway.
.: I-Cybie Electronic Dog: Gold: maybe it was just me, but I thought this thing was kind of creepy looking.
.: Simplicity SA200 Pioneer II 18 Stitch Function Sewing Machine: I have no domestic skills to speak of, so I'm going to pass on this.

Sunday's Box
A few cool items in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers, but nothing I would really buy.
.: Linksys WCF11 Wireless Compact Flash Card Type 1 (802.11b): cool product, but I don't really have a use for it even though I have a Palm Pilot.
.: Thermos 4656110 Grill-2-Go Gas Grill Manufactured by Char-Broil: we already have a grill, so I think it would be overkill to get this too.
.: Philips "Sweet Dreams" Cradle Player: as I've mentioned a million times, I have no need for kid stuff.
.: Freud FT2000EP 3-1/4 HP Electronic Variable Speed Plunge Router includes Deluxe Edge Guide: another tool. Pass.
.: Minolta Maxxum QTsi 35mm SLR Camera Kit w/ 35-80mm Lens: looks like a cool camera and as much as I would like to have a traditional camera to go with my digital, I'm not sure if this would be the best one.

I got Amazon.com Gold Box Offers twice today for some reason.
.: Oregon Scientific BAR338PA ExactSet Projection Clock with Cable Free Weather Forecaster: why would you pay $62 for a clock, even if it did tell you the weather? What a waste of money!
.: Porter-Cable 352VS 3" x 21" Belt Sander with Dust Bag: how many times do I have to pass on tools before they stop offering them to me?
.: Omni Swings n' Things 536 Yucatan Mayan Hammock, Festive Multicolor Stripe: same as the power tool thing above - I've passed on a million of these products. Stop offering them, already!
.: Logitech 961189-0403 ClickSmart 310 (USB): since I just bought a $400 digital camera from them, you wouldn't think they'd offer me a little crappy $50 one.
.: Memorex Travelview 43055 Mobile VCR with 9" Color Screen: I drive a Miata. Somehow I don't think this would fit in my car.

Crap In The Box
More crap in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers. I did see my first almost $1,000 item, though.
.: Sabatier Laguiole Opener Set, Black: very nice set, but I don't drink wine. I can think of a friend, though, who would love it.
.: JET 708750G 18" Woodworking Bandsaw includes 1/4", 1/2", and 1" Blades over an $82.00 Value: why in God's name would they think I need a big ass, $990 saw? Pass! Pass!
.: Riedel Vinum Port Glasses, Set of 6: once again, I don't drink wine.
.: Leatherman 69010103H Pulse: this is the most bizarre looking tool. It looks like a dental torture device.
.: RCA DS4220RE Dual-LNB DIRECTV System with Free Pro-Installation *(see Terms and Conditions): very strange that Amazon would sell this, at least strange to me. We can't have satellite systems here at the condo complex.

Items in The Gold Box
Another day of nothing in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers worth getting, but I did get to see my most expensive item yet.
.: Hatteras Hammocks SW-GTX Green Swing Stand: as I've mentioned several times previously, I don't have a yard or a hammock. I so don't need one of these.
.: Eastman Outdoors 38110 36-Quart Stainless Steel Pot with Lid: I don't think we need one of these, plus it's kind of expensive at $50.
.: Eastman Outdoors 38080 Stainless Steel Fish Fry Pot with Lid and Basket: in the five years we have been together, I have never seen Steven fry a fish. Pass.
.: Generac Portable Products 1417 2500 PSI, 3 GPM Pro Series Pressure Washer: OMG! This thing is on sale at $674.99! And what the hell would I do with it anyway?

.: Caleca Original Italian Amalfi 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4: maybe it's just me, but I thought these plates were ugly.
.: Oxford Garden Designs Classic Collection Sidechair: I am so not buying a $120 chair from them site unseen.
.: Mikasa Garden Harvest 5-Piece Stoneware Place Setting: I didn't like this patern at all. Thought it looked kind of cheesy.

Lucky you. The only things I ever get offered in my gold box are power tools. What do I need power tools for, and which of my past book purchases led them to believe I was in the market for said power tools?! *sigh* It's comforting to know someone found it useful...

The Box Returns
I was beginning to think that I wasn't going to get anymore Amazon.com Gold Box Offers after not getting one all weekend.
.: Oxford Garden Designs Chadwick Collection Armchair: another chair. It's nice enough, but I am not going to buy a chair for $100 site-unseen from them.
.: Flowtron MT-150 Mosquito PowerTrap: mosquitos are definitely a problem around here, but there is no way in hell that I am paying almost $225 for a mosquito killer.
.: Lakeland Mills CF1125 Cedar Log Rocking Chair: I think that this is an ugly chair. Far too rustic for my tastes.
.: MAC Sports MOCP-K-S Moon Chair, Khaki: this is kind of a cool chair, though I don't like the color. We had a chair real similar to this in our office and it was so comfortable.
.: Omni 616 Reclineaire PTX Hammock Chair, Navy Blue: I think these things are so cool, but there is no where to hang it in my condo. Plus, it's freaking hot outside. I'm not going outside for an extended length of time for anything.

Box Full of Disappointment
Nothing good in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers. Just expensive tables and cushions for hammocks I don't own.
.: American Woods 1685 Cedar Adirondack Chair with Ottoman Gift Set: another chair. Looks like I am going from cools and cooking utensils to patio stuff. Of course, none of it is very useful to me.
.: Gardenside 1606 Teak Rosevale 48 Round Dining Table: OMG! I just got offered a $500+ table! Who would buy a $500 table from Amazon site unseen?
.: Omni/Swings 'N Things 588 Blue Olefin Hammock Chair Cushion: well, since I don't have a hammock, this is a very good offer for me. Pass.
.: Lentek YC12G YardContro: this is supposed to repel dogs, cats, deer, wild animals out of yards and gardens. Of course, I don't have a yard or garden....

I look forward to seeing you update every morning with this because then I go over and do it myself. And its so silly and laughable what they give us!!! :)

Patio Box
So much for getting any more cool toys in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers. Today there were all patio items, things that, since I have no yard, aren't very useful to me.
.: Gardenside 3516 Teak Summerhill Armchair: nice looking chair, but there is no way I am paying over $300 for it.
.: Oxford Garden Designs Market Umbrella Base: as I've mentioned, I don't have a yard, so this is so useless.
.: Omni-Swings 'N Things 550 Taino Rainbow Hammock: I've always wanted a hammock, but once again, no yard, so kind of difficult to use this.
.: Gardenside 3540 Teak Sausalito Dining Armchair: another nice looking chair, but it's over $200 and I don't really have any where to put this. Pass.
.: Astonica 40101101 Patio Heater, Stainless Steel: once again, no yard, so totally useless.

Toy Box
For once, my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers were for things other than cooking utensil or a power tool. I wasn't very interested in the games that it contained today, but maybe we're getting closer to it containing items I'd actually be interested in.
.: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Board Game: I like the show, but would rather play Trivial Pursuit instead.
.: Electronic Spider Stompin' Game: I love board games usually, but this one looks like it's a little young for me unless I just want to stomp some spiders.
.: Harry Potter Talking Portraits Room Alarm: I don't have any kids and even though I love Harry Potter, going to pass on this.
.: Antique Roadshow Board Game: I've never really watched the show, though it seems kind of interesting and fun, but I don't think I'd really enjoy the board game. Give me a game of Trivial Pursuit any day.

Repeats in The Box
Seems like Amazon just loves offering me the same items over and over again for my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers.
.: Panasonic ES8003W Men's Wet/Dry Rechargeable Linear Shaver with 3D: good Lord! Stop offering me shavers! I've passed on like ten of these already!
.: Dirt Devil 091210RC Platinum Force Bagless Upright - Plus Cordless Hand Vac: not in the market for a vacuum.
.: Zelco "itty bitty" Booklight, Volume 2: this is something that I would be interested in. I read a lot after Steven's already in bed and have to leave the bedside lamps on. Not sure if I really want to spend $15, though, since he can sleep with the light on.
.: Sabatier Prosteel 7-Piece High Carbon Stainless Steel Knife Set with Block: man! No more knives already.

Getting Closer
More cooking offers in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers, but at least two of them made me think about making a purchase.
.: Zojirushi NS-JCC10 Neuro Fuzzy 5-Cup Rice Cooker: another one of these. I still don't need a rice cooker, so I'm still going to pass.
.: Sabatier Profile Stainless Steel 14-Piece Knife Set with Block: nice looking knife set, but we don't need it. Interesting side note, I got a "we're out of this, but order now and you'll get it as soon as it's in stock" as opposed to one of their messages saying they'd just run out.
.: Hamilton Beach 80200 Flat Bread MealMaker Bread Press and Skillet: this looks way cool. You can make flatbreads on it like pitas and tortillas. I doubt we'd use it, but a great offer nonetheless!
.: Black & Decker CBM7B SmartGrind Deluxe Coffee Bean Burr Mill - Black: I don't drink coffee and I won a $160 coffee maker a couple of months ago anyway.
.: WMF Manhattan Stainless Steel Cocktail Shaker with Built-In Strainer: this is even cooler looking than the martini shaker I was offered the other day. Finally, an item I might consider buying.

Simmering in The Box
Once again, nothing in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers worth getting.
.: Hamilton Beach 72600 Fresh Chop 3-Cup Food Chopper: not interested. We don't need one of these.
.: West Bend 79586 6-Quart Capacity Electric Wok: as I've said before, we don't need a wok.
.: Calphalon Professional Hard Anodized Collector's Edition 3 1/2-Quart Saucepot with Lid: when I started my job at 4 Guys, I bought Steven a fifteen piece set of Wolfgang Puck cookware to thank him for being so supportive while I was laid off. He's got saucepots.
.: Farberware Classic 8-Piece Cookware Set: like I just said, he's got cookware.
.: Spiegelau by WMF 6-Ounce Martini Glasses, Set of 6: these are nice looking, but aren't really anything special. Not worth the price.

Tooling Along
Five more tool offers to add to my list of Amazon.com Gold Box Offers.
.: PowerQwest LT10 24 Volt Cordless Electric String Timmer: I don't have a yard, so any kind of gardening tools are just not going to get bought.
.: Senco DS200-14V DuraSpin Remodeler's Screw Gun, Includes a Free SS14V Cut Out Saw: this actually might come in handy to have around the house, but my parents have one, so we'll just borrow theirs and save the $180.
.: Milwaukee 6390-21 7-1/4" Circular Saw with Tilt-Lok Handle and Case: this has got to be the tenth saw they've offered me. No thank you already!
.: Record 52-1/2ED Quick Release Woodworker's Vise (with "Dog"), 9" Jaw Width: another tool. Please, please no more tools or cooking items.
.: Allied 69062 196 Piece Tool Set in Metal Tool Box: I guess I could get all my tools in one fell swoop with this thing.

Cooking, Cooking, Cooking
More cooking offers in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers. Why can't I get some books or movies?
.: Sabatier Cannes Bordeaux 20-Piece Flatware Placesetting: for the thousandth time, I don't want any flatware!
.: Vacu Vin Concerto Wine Saver Extra Stoppers, Set of 4: if we don't drink wine, so no thank you.
.: Farberware Nonstick 4-Cup Egg Poacher: fairly certain that Steven doesn't eat poached eggs and I know I don't.
.: Oneida Cocktail Shaker: finally! A cooking product that we would use! Steven drinks martinis (I don't), but he's already got a shaker. It's pretty cool looking, but I'm going to pass.
.: Polder Electronic Clock/Stopwatch/Timer: I think Steven could actually use one of these, but I'll pass on it anyway.

Cooking Away
I would love to get something besides five more cooking offers in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers. Anyone taken advantage of theirs yet?
.: Zojirushi Tuff Road 16-Ounce Commuter Mug, Metallic Green: kind of nice looking (for a commuter mug), but I don't drink coffee and if I have a coke, it's already in a can. Not very useful for me.
.: Roshco 100-Piece Plastic Cookie Cutter Set: if we get cookies, they are usually store-bought or from a cookie store. We never make them.
.: Black & Decker HS2000 Flavor Scenter Steamer Plus Steamer and Food/Rice Cooker: kind of neat, but I'm not sure if Steven would ever use it. Somehow I doubt he would.
.: Farberware Classic Series 2-Quart Saucepan with Double Boiler Insert and Lid: very cool, but I don't think it would get a lot of use at our house.
.: Sabatier Prosteel 4-Piece Steak Knife Set: hadn't seen any knives for a while in the box. Wish they would go away since we already have a nice knife set.

I ordered a set of Farberware wooden cutting boards for $7.19. Turned out to be a good deal, because in the store I saw just one for 12 bucks!

I got that same steamer/rice cooker yesterday. It sure seems like they think you need something green, don't they?!
And like I said on my blog, I bought something today :)

(Golden) Tool Box
Tools abound in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today.
.: Milwaukee 6266-21 Fast Cutting Top Handle Orbital Jig Saw with Case: what in the hell would I do with this? Thanks, but no thanks.
.: Bosch DWM40L Miter Finder Digital Protractor/Angle Finder: I couldn't manage the protractor that we had to use in school very well, so I'm going to upgrade to the $100 version? Pass!
.: MK MK-370K 7" 1/2 HP Tile Saw Includes Stand: another tool. Stop already with the tools!
.: Prazi USA P7020 Beam Cutter Chain (New Style): I guess since this is "new style" I should just want to snap it up. But I don't.
.: Milwaukee 5371-6 1/2" Magnum Heavy Duty Hammer Drill Kit: we have a drill (I think) already, so no need for a new one.

Cooking Implements Galore

.: Kaiser Bakeware Noblesse Nonstick Mini Springform Pans, Set of 4: these looks like they are used for making things like tarts and stuff that we don't generally cook.
.: Microplane Interchangeable Grater System: kind of nice looking, but I'm not in the market for fancy graters. Pass.
.: Norelco T600 Acu-Control Cordless Rechargeable Beard & Moustache Trimmer: another shaver. Quit giving me these! I don't want it!
.: Precidio Tropical Plaid Melamine Bowls, Set of 4, Willow Green: ugly plates. I wonder why they think I need green plates all of a sudden.

Another Amazon.com Gold Box, five more items I'm passing on.
.: Bounty Hunter Tracker IV Metal Detector: what in the world would I do with a metal detector? Do people really use these?
.: West Bend 41077 Just For Dinner Breadmaker: not too bad, but I asked Steven and he said he'd never use a breadmaker and since I don't cook, that's out.
.: Toastmaster 6431 Eclipse Single Burner: well, I don't cook, so I'll pass on this.
.: Sabatier Hunter Green Cannes 16 Piece Dinnerware Set: OMG! This is the ugliest color plates I have ever seen in my life! Run away!
.: Hamilton Beach 727W Classic DrinkMaster Drink Mixer, White: just got one of those "we ran out" notices on this one. Kind of cool, but our blender makes my raspberry piña coladas just fine.

Dude, there's no way that's Hunter Green! Hunter green is DARK! Those are like Spring Green in crayola terms ;)
When I was little, my very odd uncle had a metal detector and let us walk down the beach looking for stuff. :giggle:
Oh, and I love my breadmaker - its so easy and it smells SO good - something even you could do without Steven ;)
Posted by kristine at July 7, 2002 07:09 PM
1. What Kristine said...I love my bread machine! Once upon a time, I swore I would never have one, but now that I do, I use it all the time! You can even buy bread mixes that are very good, for when you want freshly made bread, and you're tired or just plain lazy!
2. I got that drinkmixer yesterday, with that same *we just ran out* thing. Why do they offer it again?
3. I sometimes see people with metal detectors up on the beach in Maine, once it cools down and the crowds go home. I have no desire to have one, though.
4. Yes. Those ARE some seriously ugly plates!
Posted by Christine at July 7, 2002 10:07 PM
I want that breadmaker. I might just have to order that after payday. What were you going to say about the single burner?
Posted by Christine at July 7, 2002 11:01 PM
Oh, by the way ... a drinkmaster wouldn't make pina coladas. It's for things like malts and shakes. Considering you don't cook, you probably wouldn't know that though... *GRIN* It doesn't crush ice like a blender - just whips ice cream smoooooooth.

Cooking In The Box
More cooking items in today's Amazon.com Gold Box Offers. All I can guess is that their cooking department isn't selling all that much stuff so they're trying to get rid of it through this offers.
.: Sassafras Wood Pizza/Bread Peel: if we didn't already have one of these, I might be tempted to get this. Steven makes homemade pizzas and this is an essential piece of hardware to get the pizza to come out right.
.: Polder Triple Kitchen Timer/Clock: when I won my Belgian waffle maker back in April, it came with a kitchen timer which Steven has used yet, so don't need this item.
.: Libbey Flare 16-Piece Beverage Glass Set, Cobalt Blue: nice looking glasses, but just don't need them.
.: West Bend 79586 6-Quart Capacity Electric Wok: I asked Steven and he said he'd never use a wok, so passing on this.
.: Hamilton Beach 22559 Classic Chrome Extra-Wide Slot Toaster: nice looking toaster, but we've already got one.

Oh, the pizza one is kinda cool! I think I'll add that to my wishlist for sometime later!
And that regular price on the wok is marked down a whole lot right now anyhow - someday, maybe I'll get one of those and play with it!
I got all tools today. And a garage sensor that tells you if you are far enough away from the door when pulling in so the door won't hit your car. LOL!
Posted by kristine at July 5, 2002 03:59 PM
Could use a better toaster.
Love to cook Chinese/Japanese. Have cooked in a wok, dont' won one at the moment. They work best over a gas stove flame. Haven't used an electic one yet. Will have to try it considering how much I love my Foreman Grill and Steamer...
Love my kitchen timer... need about three of them. Use'em mostly, though, for kids. They play much better on the PS if the can use the timer to take 10-15 minute turns. It also works best when sharing the computers and/or for time outs. Sorry, guys It's a teacher thing I guess.
It is helpful though for Husband and Daughter when cooking. The are ADHD and having a timer to stick right next to them and say "When it rings take it out of the oven" is a life saver. Especially, because daughter is almost 12 and getting into cooking now. It won't last of course ha ha ha, but while she's interested it helps to have her cook (when mom checking in on her) while I do other things that need to get done.

I got that damned wok offer yesterday, passed on it. However, I did buy the scale that you got yesterday...wasn't going to wait around to see if I got it in my 'Box. I also bought the cutting boards that were offered to me earlier.
I could use a good kitchen timer, as well...
Posted by Christine at July 6, 2002 01:50 AM
I think I've figured it out ... what you get in the Gold Box depends on what time of day you view it. I view mine late at night (midnight or so) and I keep getting kids toys. They few times I've viewed it around 6pm, I got kitchen stuff. That's the only logic I can put to it. That, or Amazon is giving you my gold box, because yours ALWAYS has stuff I would want!

Holiday Offers
So much for any good holiday offers in Amazon.com Gold Box Offers.
.: Polder 11-Pound Stainless Steel Scale: what is up with all the cooking utensils? I'm not in the market for anything right now.
.: Farberware 12x18-Inch Poly Cutting Board with Microban: more cooking stuff. We already have something like this.
.: Oneida Flight 20-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4: we've got enough silverware, thank you.
.: Old Dutch Copper Beating Bowls and Whisk, Set of 3: these look cool and are a pretty good price at $22.49, but I don't think Steven needs beating bowls.
.: LitterMaid LMR200 Waste Receptacles: these are supposed to be used with cat liter boxes. I don't have a cat, so not a good offer.

More Strikeouts
More strikeouts in today's Amazon.com Gold Box Offers.
.: JET DC-1100 / 708626GK 1100 CFM Dust Collector includes 4" x 10" Hose, Dust Hood, and Clamps: why do they keep offering me things like this? I don't have allergies and am not in need of a vacuum for anything.
.: Bostitch N62FNK-2 15-Gauge Angled Finish Nailer Kit: more tools! Stop offering them to me!
.: Bucket Boss Brand 25005 Super Chutes: something to hold the tools I don't need. How useful.
.: Zircon 64003 Water Detector Electronic Water Alarm: apparently this beeps loudly whenever water hits it so you can know you have a leak. Whatever. Not something I need.
.: Bucket Boss Brand 99981 Mug Boss: something that is actually interesting, though I doubt I'd buy it. It's a little organizer that fits in a coffee cup so you can keep the clutter on your desk in order. Second Miss of the Day
Looks like two Amazon.com Gold Box Offers for me today! Of course, nothing worth buying in this one either.
.: Bosch 4000K 10" Worksite Table Saw includes TS1000 Folding Steel Stand and Outfeed Extension: I so don't need one of these. Steven wouldn't use it and I am so clumsy I'd kill myself with it.

Nothing Good in The Gold Box
Time to delve into today's Amazon.com Gold Box Offers. Once again, all misses.
.: Zojirushi NS-PC10 Electric 5-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer: well, we don't make a lot of rice in our house, so not something that we would really need. Isn't this more for sushi? Not something we make at home.
.: Sabatier Laguiole 4-Piece Stainless Steel Steak Knife Set: what is up with all of the food stuff? I haven't bought any of Steven's kitchen gifts from Amazon and don't have any on my wishlist.
.: Got another, "I'm sorry, but we've just run out of this item. Our Gold Box deals are so good, we sometimes can't keep up!" I just have to say it sucks that they waste one of your offers on this.

As you probably already know, I love to cook, and I love kitchen gadgets, but an electric rice cooker is something I really have no use for. We do eat a lot of rice around here, and I usually prefer to cook it as a rice pilaf...saute a chopped up onion and the rice in some butter, then add the water and cook it that way. Can't do that with this gadget!
Even if I just want plain steamed white rice, it's easy enough for me to just cook it in a pot on the stove. So this would just be another appliance that I don't really have room for!

More Gold Box Misses
Earlier today as I purchased my new Sony DSC-P71 Cyber-Shot 3MP Digital Camera, I was treated to these Amazon.com Gold Box Offers.
.: Time [MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTION]: not really interested, but this is closer to hitting the mark than most of my Gold Box offers have been!
.: Hamilton Beach 49291 Aroma Express 12-Cup Coffeemaker, White: I don't drink coffee and Steven just won a $160 Capresso MT500 coffee maker. Definitely don't need this.
.: Strange, but I got a "We just ran out of this item" message. Way to waste one of my offers.
.: Panasonic ES8003W Men's Wet/Dry Rechargeable Linear Shaver with 3D: I guess Steven might like this, but why do they offer me, a female who's never bought any men's products from Amazon, a shaver?
.: Opus 25153 Expeditions Copper Hummingbird Feeder: I guess I could hang this on the porch, but since I live in a condo and have no plants accessible to hummingbirds, not very useful!

More Gold Box Misses
More misses in the Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today. I don't have a yard since I live in a condo, so birdbaths aren't really very useful to me. I wonder why I got a filter and an ultrasonic pest repellent today. Seems odd things just to offer people. The stainless steel double wheel pizza cutter is kind of cool (Steven makes homemade pizza, so we could use this), but $16 sounds a little high for a pizza cutter. Oh well. I'll just pass on them all. When am I going to get something cool like a book, video game, or foot spa like Christine got?
