Girls Who Wear Glasses...
When I went to Vegas with Christine last month, my glasses got bent on the airplane. Being the genius that I am, I decided that I would try and bend them back into shape, only to snap the arm completely off. Ever since, I've been wearing them without the right arm which, actually, I don't really mind. (Whenever I fall asleep on the couch, it just makes it more comfortable since the arm isn't between my face and the couch).
However, since my trip to Philly and New York to see Mac and other assorted bloggers is next week (Whee! I'm so excited!), I figured I should get the glasses replaced so I don't look like a total dork at Mac's house. And, honestly, those glasses have got to be at least seven years old, so who knows how terrible the prescription really is.
So, today I went to the eye doctor (really cool guy - collector of Elvis memorabilia and has a daughter that's a web development projet manager as well, though she actually has a job) to get new glasses and contacts (since I'm on my last pair). I found two frames that I like, but I wanted to get some opinions on them. Since I had my ever-present camera phone on me, I snapped a couple of pictures. Granted, it's easier to see the glasses better in one picture than the other, but what do you think? (Click to embiggen.)
Find many different styles of Glasses online?
You will find a variety of designer glasses in an assortment of glasses frames. If it is value you want, we have cheap spectacles as well as GlassesCrafters.com.

Posted by Lisa at September 29, 2004 01:26 PM
they both look great Kymberlie! But if forced to chose, I would go with the ones on the left, though the right ones look pretty darn snazzy too! :)

Scanner Help
I've been scanning some cards that I made while over at Chrisitine's and Mike's this weekend (I came over on Saturday and left at like 2:00 Monday morning. Have I mentioned I love their house?) so they can be added to the gallery over at Stampin' Fish. For some reason, though, I cannot get the colors to come out as they look in real life.
So, here's the point to this rambling post: I need a new scanner. I looked around a bit over at Amazon, but I have no idea which is a good one. I thought about either the HP PSC 1210 or the Canon CanoScan 8400F (though it's a little more than I want to spend. Ideally, the price range is $100 or less).
Anyone have any good suggestions?

a few months ago, we really needed a new printer so what we ended up doing is just buying one of the 3-in-1 printer, copier, scanner thingies. it scans pretty nicely too. it's an HP too, btw.
Posted by girl at September 22, 2004 11:18 PM
hey I was just wondering how you got the "send an email to my cell phone" thing. that looks really cool!

I've got a HP 4-in-1 printer/scanner/fax/copier, and think it rocks :) It's been superseded now, and is probably outside the $100 range (I don't know, international currencies confuzzle me), but I just thought I'd put in a kind word for HP, seeing I like this thing :)
Posted by Josh Street at September 24, 2004 02:15 AM
I have a Canon scanner I'm trying to get rid of. It's yours for $20 shipping if you want it.
Posted by Sara at September 24, 2004 10:00 AM
That's 20 bucks AND shipping...I guess a plus sign isn't friendly. Sorry!
I have a printer and a fax machine as well if you are interested.
Posted by Sara at September 24, 2004 10:03 AM
I've got a HP PSC 1210 and it ROCKS. It was under $100 and it works super duper great. :D

I May Be Numberless, I May Be Innocent
In just a few hours Christine and I will be seeing Annie Lennox and Sting live in The Woodlands.
I am a *huge* Sting fan, so when Christine offered to buy a pair of tickets to take us for my birthday this year, I totally jumped at the chance. This will be my second time to see him live and if the last time was any indication of how good this concert's going to be, we're in for a real treat.
Yeah for good friends and Sting tickets!

By the Book
Now, as you probably know read a lot (usually on average of a couple of books a week, though I've been slacking off lately). I got an e-mail from a fellow BookCrosser with this interesting information:
An average reader can read 300 words a minute. If a reader reads 15 minutes a day, she can read 4500 words a day or 1 1/2 million words in a year. The average book has 75,000 words. So if a person reads 15 minutes a day, she can read 20 books in a year.
So, even if you don't think you have enough time to read, just a few minutes a day will get you through twenty books in a year.

Survival Needs
Did anyone TiVo or tape Survivor tonight? My stupid cable box recorded blank space for the hour. I'd be happy to pay for postage and the cost of a video tape.
Update: I started looking around last night and found BitTorrent. It took a couple of hours, but I managed to download Survivor and just finished watching it. Thanks to all who offered to help!

You might try the TV without Pity forums, they have a tape swap thing there.
Or BitTorrent, I hear folks share shows that way (though I have no idea how it works - it isn't worth the bother if you have a 56k dial-up for the 'net)

Saw your comment on your TiVo over at Eve's... I've been having issues with TiVo changing my cable box's channels as well, and apparently, it's an issue with the giant Motorola digital cable boxes, especially when you use the serial cable -- which is what I have and how mine is set up. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it, and TiVo doesn't seem to be willing to work with the Motorola people about it...

Stampin' Fish
Christine and Kathy are both Stampin' Up! demonstrators and, through them, I've caught the passion for making hand-made cards.
Since I can't do anything and not blog about it, I've created Stampin' Fish, mostly to showcase the items I've made. You can see everything in the gallery if you're interested.

My sister makes hand-made cards. It really makes receiving a special occasion card something special again, like I imagine it was 50 or 100 years ago. When no one is looking, I throw out other cards I receive, but handmade ones...they're keepers!

Pretty Daisies
After being in desperate need of a manicure, pedicure, and eyebrow waxing, I visited the local nail place today so I could feel girly again.
The girl was doing my brows when I noticed her beautiful pedicure, complete with a little white daisy on each of her big toes. I figured that since I was looking girly again I might as well go all the way and get flowers painted on my toes. Pretty, huh? (And yes, my fingernails are bright purple too.)

Rememberance
Today is the third anniversary of the terrorist attacks that felled the twin towers of the World Trade Center. If you want to read my story of my experiences on that day, you can go here.
Earlier this summer, Russell, my brother, and his roommate Steve (his nickname is Boob, for some reason, so that's what we call him) decided that they wanted to become volunteer firemen. Russell loves it so much that he's probably going to do it full time once he graduates from the academy. I'm really proud of his for doing this, but I worry about his and Boob's safety. I've been watching Rescue Me and I have visions of Russell becoming a bitter alcoholic like Denis Leary (yeah, I know I'm dramatic).
Today his house had a memorial service for the fire fighters that died at the World Trade Center. Here are some of the pictures from the service. As always, click to embiggen.

The Great White North
Soon I will be putting aside my dislike of the cold to go visit Mac in Philadelphia (Yes, I know weather in the 60s isn't cold, but I'm a southerner and a bit of a baby when it comes to anything colder than 75).
Mac and I plan on spending Saturday, October 9th in Manhattan (I actually squealed when she suggested going there. I've never been to NYC but have been dying to go), so any bloggers in the area that want to get together, send either Mac or I an e-mail so we can work it all out.
I can't believe I'm finally going to get to meet Murphy and Mr. Fish and I can't wait to see Mac again! I'm so excited to be going to Casa Fish! I'll be even more excited if I get to meet other bloggers in the area, so come out and met me on my trek to the great white north!

Dance With Me
I've got the WinAmp on random (as usual) and Breathe's "How Can I Fall?" came on.
I was instantly transported to my freshman year in high school. We were on a band trip in Corpus Christi having our annual banquet. There was this cute tuba player Doug Ball that I had a crush on (honestly, though, I had a crush on a lot of guys. I was a bit boy crazy) and I was so happy when he asked me to dance. Ever since "How Can I Fall?" has always made me think of high school.
Anyone else remember the first song they slow danced to?

Burn It - The Summer 2004 Incentive Winner
I've been woefully negligent in mentioning the incentive winners from the last Burn It CD swap (and also woefully negligent in making my own CD of movie music. I plan on starting it really soon, I promise!). As you may recall, the group or groups that get all of their CDs to me first wins a copy of my own CD.
This time we had three groups get their CDs into me all on the same day so the winners are as follows:
.: Traci
.: Vicki
.: Darren
.: Michael
.: Christine Murphy
.: Amber
.: Julia
.: Jay
.: Leah
.: Katie
As soon as I make my CDs, your copy will be on its way to you. Thanks for getting your CDs out so promptly!

Hurricanes and Happy Birthdays
Today marks the 104th anniversary of the deadliest natural disaster in United States history, the hurricane that struck Galveston. Historians estimate that close to 10,000 people died. If the storm hadn't almost completely destroyed the city, people believe that Galveston would be the big city down here, not Houston.
Today also marks the 26th anniversary of my brother Russell's birth. He's definitely not a natural disaster, though I used to think of him as one when we were growing up.
Happy birthday, Russell! I love you and hope it's an awesome day for you!
