Miscellaneous

Just some random stuff that's on my mind:

- I finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on Friday and I quite enjoyed it. I agree with several people that the writing is simply not as magical (pardon the pun) as the first couple, but all in all, it was a great book. Lots of good coming of age stuff in there and I just had to see what was going to happen next. Hope we don't have to wait three years for the next one.

- An eBay auction pair of shoes that I have been drooling over for a week ends in forty minutes. If they go up much more, I won't be able to bid on them. Who are the ends that bid on auctions before the last few minutes, driving up the price? Don't they know these are my shoes?

- I watched 44 Minutes on FX this weekend. It's the story of those two guys who held up a bank in North Hollywood in 1997 wearing kevlar body armor armed with AK-47s. They left the bank firing over 2,000 rounds injuring over thirty people, most of them police officers. The movie was great, though I felt such rage that people can legally own weapons like sniper and assult rifles. It's just so fucked up. I really do recommend seeing this movie, though. Really good.

- We rented Die Another Day this weekend and it was pretty entertaining (though a lot of it was highly unrealistic). At least it didn't have Denise Richards in it. I really can't stand her.

- I've had thirty people sign up for Burn It - The Summer Edition already. Since we only had about forty people last time, I think this one's going to be even bigger. Come and sign up!

- The cat is so cute running around with her little fur mouse in her mouth like it's actual prey.

- Man, how can it be Monday almost already? I am so glad Friday is a holiday.

Burn It - The Summer Edition

It's time for another Burn It CD swap! The rules are a bit different from last time and there's a new theme, so be sure to read carefully before signing up!

The Theme:
It's summer time and I don't know about where you live, but here in Texas it's hot - real hot. With that in mind, the theme for this swap is music that makes you hot. Music that makes you sweat. Music that turns you on. Here's your chance to make a make-out CD and share it with others.

Here's how it works:
After the signup period, people will be put into groups of 4. You will then receive an e-mail from me telling you the names and addresses of the people in your group. You burn 4 identical CDs. Keep one for yourself and send the other three to the other people in your group. You should then receive three new CDs from the other three people in your group.

The rules:
- You should have a blog. I would like this to be a fun way to connect people in the blogosphere. If you don't, go over to Diaryland or Blogspot and start one for free.
- If you're not going to follow through and make your CDs, please don't bother signing up. It would be a shame if one or two people ruined this for their group. If you signed up last swap and didn't send your CDs out, don't sign up this time.
- You must live in the US or Canada. If there's a intrest in this in other areas, I may do a swap at some point down the road that includes other countries, but since this is the first swap, I'm going to limit it to the areas where I know most of you guys live.
- If you live in the US, you should be willing to ship to Canada. If you live in Canada, you should be willing to ship to the US. The postage is a teeny bit more, but nothing that's going to break the bank.
- Remember that most people can't play mp3s in their car, so make sure they're something that will play in a standard car stereo. I tend to use cda or wav files.
- Please be sure to put your name, URL, or e-mail on your CD somewhere. I got several last time that I liked, but have no idea who sent them.

Guidlines on creating your CDs:
- Include a track listing. If someone like an artist, they might want to buy more music by them. Let us know who it is.
- Fill up the CD as much as you can. There's 80 minutes on a blank CD. Don't half-ass it and make a 30 minute CD.
- You should definitely use a jewel case when sending your CDs to protect it during mailing. You can get them cheap anywhere.
- I know a lot of people are graphically inclined, so feel free to make your CD a work of art.
- Don't be afraid to put on "cheesy" music. If you like it, others probably will too.
- Don't be afraid to put on music that no one has ever heard before either. Billboard or MTV may never have known this music, but you did, so that's what counts.

If you've gotten this far and you still want to sign up, send an e-mail (change the AT to an @ in my e-mail address) to me and make sure you reference the swap in the subject line. You must include the following information:

- Your name
- Mailing address
- Your blog URL

Signups will continue through Tuesday, July 15th. By Friday, July 18th, I will send e-mails to everyone letting you know who is in your group. You should have all of your CDs burned and in the mail NO LATER THAN Monday, August 4th. This gives you at least a full two weeks to create and ship CDs to your three group partners.

Please spread the word! More people equals more music! Just be sure to link to this URL, because eventually this entry will cycle off the main page.

If you have any other questions, you can e-mail or leave a comment.

Special thanks goes out to Alison for both the inspiration and allowing me to use most of her rules and guidelines.

Ever since we moved servers last month, I haven't been able to get my MTBlogTimes plug-in to work right. My archives pages and the single BlogTimes graph down at the bottom of my index page don't shop up at all.

The End of the Weekend

What a wonderful weekend I had. Jeanna came over late Friday and we headed to Wal-Mart to get some essentials (you know, things like Funyuns and Nutty Bars) before we headed off to the B. Dalton in Memorial City Mall to pick up our copies of Harry Potter.

I'd never actually been to Memorial City Mall before, so I was quite proud of myself for getting out there okay. (Jeanna's friend Kelly works there and we promised we'd come see her.)

After that it was back home to watch my old marching band videos, talk for a while and then watch Truly, Madly, Deeply, which we both enjoyed quite a lot.

It was after five when we finally went to bed, so I slept until 1:00 on Saturday when it was time to get up and go get pedicures. After that it was off to a local jewelry store that's going out of business to check out their stock (the guy's going to call me when they get an even lower discount so I can get some opal earrings and maybe a pair of long, dangly amethyst ones too).

We then spent some wonderful time at the local Sephora before heading off to Chinese Cafe for lunch.

Lunch was fabulous and the two of us both ate for $20 with tons of leftovers. Hell of a deal.

We figured we were near Westheimer, so we rode it all the way down to The Galleria where I found two awesome covers for my Nokia 3650, something I'd had a hard time locating. We looked around a bit and then headed home.

Before we got home, we hit Blockbuster and rented Dead Again (I couldn't believe Jeanna had never seen it) and The Maltese Falcon (she couldn't believe I'd never seen it).

We watched Dead Again, Aresenic and Old Lace (we both adore that movie), and then hit the hay since it was already past 2:00.

Today we watched The Maltese Falcon and I loved it! Humphrey Bogart was one cool motherfucker.

Jeanna left, I played some poker (won $50 too, which was nice), and now I'm off to get ready so I can pick Steven up from the airport. It'll be nice to see him.

Of course, I feel like a need a weekend to recover from my weekend now! Wonder if I can nap at work tomorrow witout anyone noticing.

Missing Steven and Other Rambles

I dropped Steven off at the airport this morning so he could go to Boston for a business trip. I was originally going to go, but since he has class all day and then dinners and receptions at night that significant others can't attend, I figured I'd just stay home.

He called this afternoon from his swanky hotel, Nine Zero, and I realized how much I miss him already. Sappy, huh? This is the first trip, though, that he's taken in almost five years without me, so it's a bit strange to be home alone.

Since he isn't here, I'd thought I'd add another family member to make the household the same number and bought another beta at lunch time (I now have four of them). He's really pretty with lots of pinkish-red coloring shot through with shimmery blue. I'll have to try and do a good picture of him later.

The good news, though, is my best friend Jeanna is coming over tomorrow night to spend the whole weekend with me. We already know that we're going to a midnight sale of Harry Potter tomorrow night and then getting pedicures and checking out this jewelry store that's going out of business on Saturday, but that's all we've got planned so far. I think we'll hit Chinese Cafe for dinner Saturday night which will be delicious as always and since Jeanna's never been there before, it'll really be a treat.

I expect lots of raspberry pina coladas will be drunk, lots of movies will be seen, and an incredible time will be held for all.

I guess if you've don't get to go on a trip, the least you can do is have your best friend stay with you!

Blogging Break

I bet everyone was thinking I was dead since I haven't posted since last Thursday (the longest break since I started blogging), but it appears I am still alive.

Last Friday we had friends come over for dinner, so in between getting home from work a bit later than I wanted to, working on a project I wanted to get finished, and getting ready for people to come over, I just never got around to posting. We had a wonderful dinner of Steven's homemade lasagna and then decided to go see The Matrix: Reloaded.

Steven and I had seen it on opening day and I had liked it, but I was disappointed in it. The more, though, I pondered the movie, the more I began to like it and I really enjoyed seeing it the second time. When we got home we watched The Animatrix. It totally rocked (with the exception of the last story) and answered a question that had been bothering me since we saw The Matrix: Reloaded the first time.

Saturday saw more project work and we then met Steven's parents and brother for dinner at Carrabba's. The food was delicious, as always, and we had a great time.

I was going to blog Sunday only to find out that a double server move made it where I couldn't. Luckily that was fixed with no big problems and The Neurotic Fishbowl came back online.

Yesterday was spent wrapping up that project I mentioned and then topped off with a nap about 9:00.

Which brings us to today. I'm a bit pissy since Aunt Flow is about to make her monthly visit, soI haven't had a whole lot to say. I just wanted to let everyone know I'm still alive.

Jeanna's coming over Friday night to spend the weekend, so I've got something good to look forward to soon!

A Little Shopping and a Little Dinner

I met Jeanna tonight at Deerbrook Mall after she got off work and we kicked around for a while, did a little shopping, and ate dinner at Jason's Deli (peanut butter and jelly sandwich for me - yum!).

Steven's going out of town next week for a conference in Boston and Jeanna's going to spend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with me and Bella. We're going to get drunk, watch movies, and have great dinners. I can't wait for next weekend!

*Yawn*

I was so tired today that, for the first time in a week or so, I took a nap. I made it until about 9:00 and then I crashed.

I've been having very intense dreams (not just nightmares, though there have been some of those too) and I'm almost as tired in the morning as when I went to sleep. I think I'll take an Ambien and see if I can actually sleep through the whole night with no dreams.

Monday Monday

Ah, where do the weekends go?

I had dreams all night last night where it was finals day and I hadn't been to class all semester so I wasn't going to graduate from college. When I woke up this morning I was even more tired than when I went to sleep.

Despite that, I had a pretty good day. I had a wonderful chat with Sheila, who despite everything going on in her life, took the time to remind me how special I am. She completely rocks.

I also got a phone call from the boyfriend inviting me to lunch out of the blue - another nice pick-me up. Then it was off to Victoria's Secret Semi-Annual sale where I scored a ton of stuff for like $100.

I had bought The Animatrix DVD Gift Set to give Steven from Bella for Father's Day since he takes such good care of her, but I couldn't wait and gave it to him tonight.

I am now off to eat leftover homemade lasagna (Yum!) and watch some of The Animatrix with my baby. Night, all!

Benefits and Lasagna

Steven and I spent most of the day at a charity benefit for one of his co-worker's husband. They found out last year that both she and him had Hepetitis C and just as they were getting done with the treatment for it, it was discovered that he had pancreatic cancer. The benefit was a lot of fun with ponies and horses for the kids to ride (see them over at the Neurotic Fishbowl Moblog) and they had a band, Victim, that played some real kick-ass music.

After that we headed off to Wal-Mart since Steven decided he wanted to make Emril's lasagna for dinner tonight. It's currently cooking away over in the kitchen and the whole house smells delicious. I love having a man that can cook!

Sick Day

I went to bed last night around midnight only to actually fall asleep after 2:00. At 5:30 the phone rings, giving me a heart attack since no one calling at that time of the morning can have good news. I answer it, only to get hung up on. A massive thunderstorm then starts off so it's yet another hour or so before I can fall asleep.

Needless to say, when Steven tried to wake me up to go to work, I totally felt like shit. I had a headache, my eyes and teeth hurt, and I was still congested. I came downstairs, got on the Exchange server, e-mailed the boss to tell him I wouldn't be in, dealt with a few work issues, and popped an Ambien and headed back to bed.

I slept most of the day, but I'm still tired and grumpy. When I saw the doctor Monday about the Lexapro, he offered to give me an anti-biotic perscription if I felt worse by the end of the week, so I may give him a call tomorrow and take him up on it.

Damn summer colds!

Just Thoughts

I think I've picked up the cold that Steven had last week. My head is starting to feel like it's going to explode and I'm sneezing like crazy.

I went to the doctor today to talk to him about Lexapro and how I feel on it. I told him I definitely feel much better (I no longer feel that there is a black hole just beyond my line of sight that is sucking me towards it. I actually feel good and hopeful, a nice change), but I am still pretty exhausted. He checked my blood pressure and it's normal, so he's sending me for bloodwork tomorrow morning. My mother is convinced I'm anemic, so I guess we'll find out if there's anything wrong with me.

Steven and I are trying to shopping for a flip-top poker table that doubles as a dinette set. There's one we both like by California House, but it's probably too big to fit in the condo and it's like $5,000 on sale. I'd really like to get it, but I'm not sure if it's in the cards. Pardon the pun.

I'm feeling worse, so I think it's time for me and the cat to go take a little nap while we wait for Steven to come home from work. Have a nice night, all.
