The Second Thanksgiving of the Season
Today it is Thanksgiving at my family's house (good thing I love turkey!), so we are just about ready to go over there and spend the day gorging ourselves on food and playing Mexican Train dominoes, which has got to be the most fun game known to man. Anyway, everyone enjoy their Saturday!

i had two thanksgivings! one was at my boyfriend's family's house, and the next night was at mine. funny thing is, both cooked the exact same meal, down to the biscuits. my mother never cooks, so the fact that she happened to cook the exact same thing is pretty weird!

Bizarreness in The Gold Box
I very strange toy in my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today, but nothing to intice me to make a purchase.
.: American Lawn Mower Company 1705-16 16" Bent Reel Mower: in today's day and age, why would you even buy a push mower? I would go power all the way!
.: Riedel Vinum Extreme Sauvignon Blanc Wine Glass, Set of 6: Steven and I both don't drink wine, so going to pass on this.
.: Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer: by far the best mouse you can buy. If you don't have one of these, you should.
.: Garmin eTrex Vista 24 MB GPS with Compass, Altimeter and PC Cable: since all I would use this for would be to geocache on occasion, I think this is a bit much to spend. Pass.
.: Farberware Classic 6-Quart Stockpot with Lid: this was a really good deal, but since Steven doesn't need one, I'm going to pass.
.: Dirt Devil 082600 Vision Bagless Canister Vacuum: looks like a great vacuum, but we're not in the market for one right now.
.: GoVideo DVR4200 DVD/VCR Combo: we just bought a DVD player a few months back, so I don't need to get another one right now.
.: Panasonic SC-HT75 CD Home Theater Mini System: this looked awesome, but since we have most of the components anyway, I'm going to pass on taking this offer.
.: Harley-Davidson Ken #2: can you say creepy? There's something very weird about Ken with facial hair, a tattoo, and in leather chaps.
.: Philips MC7037 Hi-Fi Micro System with 3-CD Changer: another item I'm just not in the mood for.

24 Marathon
Steven has been in Austin at the UT game all day (where A&M got their ass beat. Go, Texas!) so the kitty and I are about to retire to the couch with Blueberry Pop-Tarts to watch the three episodes I have recorded of 24. I loved last season and can't wait to see how this season is going to go. Don't you love Fridays off from work? I know I do!

Happy Thanksgiving!
We'll be leaving soon for Steven's parents' house (Thanksgiving with my family is this Saturday), but I wanted to wish everyone a happy, safe, filled with yummy food Thanksgiving Day. I know I grouse a lot about all manner of things, but I do have a lot to be thankful for - my family, Steven, my friends, and a fairly successful life. I hope that everyone has a wonderful day and eats too much and falls asleep content.

Reasons For Love #8
Every Wednesday those who are involved in a relationship with somebody share a few (simple but significant) reasons for their love. Please keep in mind that this does not have to be a romantic relationship. It can be about a parent, a sibling, a friend, a co-worker, your kid, your dog, whatever.
Stop in here to join the notify list, see who else has left their reasons, and to be added to the blogroll. Also, feel free to save the button below to your server and link it to http://www.neuroticfishbowl.com/reasons.html
I love Steven because...
- When he picks up Bella he talks to her in cute, baby talk
- He split a Litter Free with me (even though it was really expensive) to help solve Bella's problem of peeing on the floor
- He's taking me out for Chinese food tonight because I really want it
- When we had a stupid fight yesterday he called me and apologized
- He's been a big help on a project of mine
- He's so very sweet to me
- He was very amused by how much I like my Zip Zap

Thanksgiving
Since it's almost Thanksgiving, I thought I'd do a quick list of what I'm thankful for today:
- Being home by 4:00 in the afternoon and in my cute, comfy pajama bottoms at the start of a four day weekend
- A cute, sweet boyfriend
- A sweet kitty to cuddle with and who just went and used the box all by herself. Good kitty!
- Lunch today with my mother
- Dinner tonight at Chinese Cafe
- Wonderful friends and family
Of course, this isn't nearly all the things that I'm thankful for, but just a few off the top of my head. What are you thankful for this season?

.: All-Clad Stainless 7-1/2 Inch Fry Pan: we don't need one of these, so I'll pass.

It's Monday, so time to start the week out right with Jess's Participation Positives!
- I bought some great Christmas gifts from Amazon today
- I've gotten to IM with that tart several times and have enjoyed her witty banter

- The project that I've been working on is going really well and should be done soon
- I had a great deal in my Amazon Gold Box today
- Got some more cute stripey socks today (and thanks to Christine catching them ringing up at too much, didn't have to pay too much)
- Still having way too much fun playing EverQuest
- I love and am loved

.: Ovations by Oneida Strauss Stainless Steel Flatware, 53-Piece Service for 8: I'm not very impressed with this pattern, so I'm definitely not purchasing these.
.: Mikasa Terrazzo Stoneware Covered Sugar Bowl: they keep offering me this pattern and I keep passing. Wonder if they'll ever learn that I don't like this and won't buy it.
.: WMF Manhattan Stainless Steel Cocktail Shaker with Built-In Strainer: checked with Steven just last night and he said he didn't need one of these since the one he already owns works fine.
.: Action Man Mega Figure: Jungle Dart: I don't have any kids, but even if I did, I don't think I'd buy them this weird toy.
.: Farberware Millennium Satin Enamel Nonstick 12-Piece Cookware Set, Steel Blue: these look like great pots, but since I bought Steven a whole set just over a year ago, I'm going to pass. Love the color, though.

Mostly a typical Saturday here at the Vest-McGuire household. I slept super late and cuddled with Bella when she came upstairs, screwed around online, StairMastered, played at bit of EverQuest, and now we've got friends over. Daily Recap
It was quite a day today. I had about five hours of meetings at work which went really well which is always good.
My 10:00 meeting was very interesting. Four people were supposed to show up for it and by 10:05, only one was there. I proceed to the conference room with the client and we start to sit down. All the while I'm thinking, "Man, this is the first time I've met the guy. What the hell are we going to talk about?" I had just started to try and think of any interesting stories I could share when he mentioned that he played NeverRest. I asked him to repeat himself and he said, "Oh, sorry. EverQuest. Ever heard of it?" Needless to say we had definitely found a topic to discuss and passed the next half-hour or so chatting about EverQuest when I told him that I'd just started playing about three weeks ago. I think I now have a new favorite client.
The second meeting went really well too and I feel like the relationship that we're beginning is really going to flourish. We're losing a very important person with this company, so I've been a little worried about how things were going to shake out, but I think they're going to work out just fine.
I jetted out of work right at five so I could meet Jeanna in Humble and catch a 5:50 showing of Red Dragon. They actually started the movie a little early so we missed the previews and a bit of the first scene and the movie was blurry for about ten minutes. Other than that, I have to say that the movie was excellent. Great performances and extremely faithful to the book, which I've already loved. I would highly recommend catching it at the theater if you still can.
After that we went and grabbed a bite to eat and stood around and chatted for quite some time. If I've never mentioned it before, I love Jeanna because we enjoy so many of the same things and I never tire of talking to her. She's so wonderful.
I got home and was very much less than thrilled to find out that Steven had told the TiVo not to record Friends and Will & Grace thinking they were reruns and recorded the damn Rockets game instead. This is like the third time he's changed the line-up without telling me and I've missed shows I've really wanted to watch. I think I may have to get him his own box for Christmas so my shows can be recorded in safety.
A high point to the evening, though, was when I checked the mail and found that my Blog Ornament Exchange ornament had arrived. It is this beautiful yellow and green fish covered in glitter with the cutest pink lips. I'll have to take a picture of it and put it up over at Picture Fish so that everyone can see it. Thanks so much, Sarah, for the ornament! It is perfect and I really love it. =)
Anyway, Bella and I are off to cuddle up and go to sleep. I am exhausted and I am so glad that it's Friday already. Be sure to come back later and see which five blogs I feature this week in Discovery Friday. Remember, a good way for me to find your blog and start reading it is to leave comments, so say hi, especially if you're a new reader.
Good night, all! Sleep tight!

I love my mom because...
- She always listens to me rant about whatever is bothering me no matter what
- I admire her sense of being. She's so zen.
- She talks to me every day
- She signs all her e-mails with LY (Love You)
- Whenever my computer doesn't work she helps me diagnose the problem and figure it out
- She's always telling me about movies that I should watch because I'd like them so much and I love to hear how excited she gets about the good ones
- We read a lot of the same kinds of stuff and I enjoy talking to her about books
- Whenever we go out to eat, she always takes the icky things that I don't like (like cucumbers in my salad) and puts them on her plate
- I love her because she's such a wonderful person and I'm lucky to have her in my life.

- Microwave or conventional oven?
Microwave oven. I'm lucky if I can turn on the regular oven.
- Plain or Peanut M&M's?
Tough call. Usually plain, but peanuts are good too.
- "101 Dalmations"...animated or live-action version?
Never saw the live and I love the animated, so animated.
- Drink out of bottle/can or pour into a glass?
Out of the can. I'm a heathen with no manners.
- Sunlight or moonlight?
Moonlight. I hate the sun. Just ask Christine.
- Kermit the Frog or Miss Piggy?
Kermit, I guess. I'm ambivalent.
- Glasses or contact lenses (or neither)?
Glasses when at home, contacts when out in the world.
- Action movies or chick flicks?
Toughie again but I'll go with chick flicks since lots of action movies have been crappy lately.
- Toilet seat...up or down?
Down or else the cat drinks out of it!

Considering The Gold Box
Several repeats my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today and a few products that had me seriously considering buying them.
.: Zojirushi NS-KCC05 Micom Programmable 3-Cup Rice Cooker & Warmer: mmmm. Rice. This little item got great reviews and isn't too expensive. Nice.
.: Hamilton Beach 04161 TrueAir HEPA Air Purifier with UV Germicidal Light: I think I got offered this last week. Still don't need one.
.: The Outer Limits - The Original Series: man, I am so tempted to buy this. If it wasn't Christmas time, I probably would. As it is, if it shows up one more time, I definitely will.
.: The Powerpuff Girls Bubbles Room Guard: once again, this kind of necessitates having a kid. Pass.
.: Mikasa Libretto Stoneware Covered Sugar Bowl: okay pattern, but not really my cup of tea.
.: J.K. Adams Maple Herb Bowl and Mezzaluna Chopper Set: this was really nice looking and, if Steven did more herb mincing, I would probably get this for him. As it is, I'm going to WishList it so I can remember to see if he needs one in the future.
.: Sony DCRTRV27 MiniDV Digital Handycam Camcorder w/ 3.5" LCD, MPEG EX, Memory Stick & Mega Pixel Video/ Still: Steven and I don't have a camcorder, though I'm sure we'll aquire one in the near future. Excellent reviews on this one make it a likely candidate.
.: Timex T463G Weather Alert Triple Alarm Clock Radio: not in the market for one of these. Pass.
.: Handspring Treo 90: since I rarely use my Palm Pilot for more than playing games and keeping a list of my Beanie Babies, going to pass on this.
.: Godzilla 2: don't have a GameBoy, so pass.

I heard that on NPR this morning. I missed the first part and was thinking they were just doing a piece on him today. I was really sad to find out that it was b/c he passed away. I really liked his movies!

Random Stuff
Things are kind of busy, so here's some bullets instead of a real post. =)
- Jeanna and I got to see Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets and we loved it. The effects were much better in this movie (my biggest gripe about the first one) and I'd forgotten how good the book was. Plus, Oliver Wood is just so cute. Love the accent.
- If Bella doesn't quit jumping up on my desk to look for her feather want I'm going to kill her
- Am still unsure what to get a lot of people for Christmas and the holidays are rapidly approaching. Yikes!
- Russell was a great help on a project I've got going on and I really appreciate it
- Ibocea is up to level 30 and got a lot of cool spells
- How the hell did it get to be Thanksgiving already?
- I am so buying these pj bottoms and some more stripey socks
- If I have a blinding headache for one more day I may have to shoot myself

Gold Boxing
Passed on all of the items my Amazon.com Gold Box Offers today, but there was a product that I would recommend to anyone in there.
.: Omni Swings n' Things 586 Hammock Stand, Green: I love hammocks, but since I don't have a yard, makes it a little difficult to own one. Pass.

.: Linksys BEFSX41 EtherFast Cable/DSL Firewall Router with 4-Port Switch/VPN EndPoint: I don't feel the need to get one of these. I feel fairly safe with my Zone Alarm firewall.
.: Hamilton Beach 04162 TrueAir HEPA Air Purifier with UV Germicidal Light: seems nice enough, but I haven't experience any problems with the air in the house, so don't feel inclined to purchase it.
.: AeroBed 11023 Queen Size Inflatable Bed: Steven bought an air matress a few years ago when we had a house guest for a few days, so we don't need one of these. It does look very nice and comfortable, though.
.: Calphalon Commercial Hard-Anodized 7-Piece Cookware Set: awesome looking cookware, but I don't think Steven needs seven more items of this nature.
.: Skate Value Pack with Pads, Backpack, & Bottle-Size 1: no kids, so really going to have to pass on this.
.: Leatherman 61110003 Sideclip: this thing looks like a torture device. I have no need for tools of this nature.
.: Brother HL-1440 Laser Printer: looks like a good deal if you don't need a color printer, but I already have an HP deskjet that I love.
.: Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer: I already have this mouse and I highly recommend it if you don't. It glides smoothly and I never have a problem with it. Great mouse.
.: Eastman Outdoors 38285 3-Battery Oil Filter Pump: I've already had this this week and, as I said then, if we deep fried stuff this would be great, but we don't. Pass.

Busy Day
I spent all day working on a project with my brother and Steven made plans for us to go over to a friend's house and meet like ten people for dinner. I don't mind the plans, but I wish he would give me more than the, "Oh, yeah, we're meeting a bunch of people for dinner in a day or two" especially when I have things to work on.

.: Broken Down - I've read Carla's site for a while, so I figured it was time I give her a shout out. :-) Go read her site. It's a good one.
.: Dania's Dailies - I love the look of this site, even though I don't like coffee. She's also got a lovely photoblog (with cute kitty pictures) and excellent posts.
.: Living Reflections in a Dream - Amy has a gorgeous site and her posts today have been filled with silly fun. Check her out. Fun stuff.

A Wish in The Gold Box

.: Pewter Wine Bottle Coaster: this would be handy if I actually drank wine. Maybe I should so I could start buying more stuff from Amazon.

.: Riedel Vinum Single Malt Scotch Glasses, Set of 6: I can't ever remember if it's scotch or bourbon that Steven drinks. Nice looking glasses, though.
.: Motorola Disney Classic Two-Way Radio (Pair): since I still don't have or want kids, going to be passing on this, though I guess it would be easier to use this than holler at Steven across the house when I want to talk to him. :-)
.: That Wine Is Mine "Vineyard" Wine Glass Charms, Set of 6: I always think these are so cute and if I drank wine, I would definitely get some.
.: Kaiser Bakeware La Forme 11-Inch Nonstick Quiche Pan with Removable Base: I'm not very fond of quiche and it's hard for me to imagine Steven cooking them, so I'm going to pass.
.: Global 8-Inch Chef's Knife: sharp looking knife. ;-)
.: Kuhn Rikon 4-Piece Duromatic Duo Pressure Cooker Set: I think this is something that actually might interest Steven, but I'm going to pass since he's already getting aCuisinart ICE-20 1-1/2-Quart Automatic Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt & Sorbet Maker for Christmas.

Thursday Blahs
For some reason I'm feeling kind of blah this afternoon, though I had a pretty positive thing happen to me today. Don't you hate it when you get a mild case of the blues? Only cure - go home and play EverQuest all night since Steven's off playing poker. I'll wear my new cute flannel pj bottoms from Old Navy (the link takes you to the ones I almost bought since I can't find the ones I did buy. They have little polars bears all over them; trust me, they're cute.) and my new stripey socks and I will be a much happier girl, I'm sure!

Ahh stripey socks - just cannot get enough of them.
As Toothpaste for Breakfast site says "Stripey Socks are the pinnacle of human development".
People who don't understand stripey sock wearers just don't get the desire to own many stripes over many socks.
My fave pair are multi coloured toe socks. I wear them to uni, and people just shake their heads.

Reasons For Love #6
Every Wednesday those who are involved in a relationship with somebody share a few (simple but significant) reasons for their love. Please keep in mind that this does not have to be a romantic relationship. It can be about a parent, a sibling, a friend, a co-worker, your kid, your dog, whatever.
Stop in here to join the notify list, see who else has left their reasons, and to be added to the blogroll. Also, feel free to save the button below to your server and link it to http://www.neuroticfishbowl.com/reasons.html
I love Steven because...
- I was telling him about the crappy day I had when he interrupted and said, "I think you need a hug," and embraced me in a big, warm bear hug
- When I was playing EverQuest last night he kept making silly jokes
- He knew I've been having trouble sleeping so he bought me some sleeping pills when he went to the store
- He bought my new conditioner without me having to tell him I needed more
- Even though we had too much food, he ordered the mozzarella covered garlic bread appetizer from Brick Oven Pizza in Austin when we were there this weekend because I wanted to try them
- We had so much fun driving to Austin just talking together

Being able to enjoy long car rides together is definitely a sign of true love. :)
Mike's one of the few people I don't want to throttle after being cooped up with for that long. And he sleeps right through my loud sing-a-longs when it's my turn to drive. :)

Randomness (and a lot of rants)
Just stuff that's crossing my mind:
- The damn cat is peeing on the carpet again. She peed on the floor by the bar like ten minutes ago, peed in the hallway this weekend, and peed upstairs last week. We've gotten her two boxes, changed the litter, tried using citrus carpet odor to keep her away and she's still doing it. She was doing so well and I have no idea what's changed.
- I want some socks like Bran
- I have to go send a letter to the post office contesting a claim they denied again. I sent my camera off, insured by the post office, for some repairs. It got to Olympus with a big crack in the case. I sent a claim to the post office, giving them both the packaging and the camera. They wrote me back denying the claim because they didn't get the packaging. WTF? You have that stuff! Write them back again to get the same damn reply. Am now having to send even more documentation to consumer affairs. Simple analogy, people: insurance company can't take your car, examine it, deny your claim, and then keep your car. You either have to give me my camera back or pony up the money for it since I'm sure it's lost by now.
- This week is period week (lucky me) and I want everyone to just leave me alone. I swear, Steven goes out of his way to be annoying right before I start.
- Some big changes are happening with my major client and it's got me a bit worried.
- I want some sweets.
- I have to be at work an hour early tomorrow and I am pissed. I don't want to get up early. I've been sleeping like shit ever since I started playing EverQuest, something I always do when I start a new, addicting game.
- I want the new Anita Blake book Cerulean Sins to be out now, not in six more months.
- I want work weeks to be no more than four days, and most of the time three days, long
Okay, I guess that's off my chest for now. Guess I'll go kill some Aviaks over in South Karana.

I love socks. Especially since I moved back from Hawaii, where I wore sandals and mules all the time.
fetishize-me.com has an excellent selection. I feel a splurge coming on.
You should get yourself a good heaping amount of chocolate, wear some warm comfy socks, and play everquest all weekend. That'll ease the womanly pains. :)

I have three cats, myself. I have to ask is your cat "fixed?" If not this could be the problem. One of my cats was peeing around the house and as soon as we took her to the vet for that she was fine.
Another issue could be an infection. Cats do get bladder infections and all that kind of junk. Possibly have the vet take a look. It is worth a try. :)

This-or-That Tuesday
Time for Christine's This-or-That Tuesday:
- Hershey's Kisses: with or without almonds?
Without. I don't like almonds.
- Wizard of Oz: Scarecrow or Tin Man?
The Scarecrow. He was so wise.
- Meat eater or vegetarian?
Meat eater.
- Buy books or borrow them?
Buy books. I love books too much not to be able to reread them whenever I want.
- At the bank: ATM or human teller?
ATM.
- Oil or gas (or other) heat?
Whatever. Just keep me warm.
- Pen or pencil?
Pen to write with, pencil to put my hair up in a bun.
- Drive or use public transit?
Drive.
- Who IS James Bond: Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan (or any of the others in between)?
I've only seen two Bonds films (one of them was that awful movie Tomorrow Never Dies with Denise Richards; I hate her), so I could go either way, but I'll pick Sean because, damn!, that man is still pretty hot.
- Your ideal breakfast: full (bacon/sausage, eggs, pancakes, etc) or continental (bagels, muffins, fruit, cereal)?
Most of the times it's something light, but I love a big breakfast even now and then!

Smitten
Cis e-mailed me last week with an idea about creating a companion meme to Reasons For Love the meme I have taken over where you post a list of reasons, simple but significant ones, why you love someone. It's called Smitten and it's got a great idea behind it.
What you do is post a picture of yourself and someone (even a pet; they're people too) together and write a brief post that shares a few of the reasons why you're so smitten.
Sound fun? Of course it does! Run over and get a button and get more details!

Veteran's Day
I just wanted to take a minute and send my sincere thanks and gratitude to all members of our armed services both past and present.
At the UT game this weekend the Longhorn Band did a salute to each service by spelling out the name of the branch and playing their theme song (for lack of a better term). When they honored that branch everyone in the audience who had served stood up and were applauded. In a stadium of 80,000 there were a lot of people to applaud.
I will always support those that risk their lives to make sure that we are safe. You have my gratitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Sony is a better DVD player and the price is not too high. Toshiba is also a good buy for a dvd player. Though this also depends on how cheap they want their DVD player for.

Hakeem The Dream
Steven and I just watched the Rockets retirement ceremony for Hakeem Olajuwon. He's been a huge fixture in Houston sports ever since I can remember (he was playing at the University of Houston known as Phi Slamma Jamma when I was just ten or so). The ceremony was so great and the whole time Hakeem just stood in the background, humble and slightly embarrassed that people were making such a big fuss over him. He's absolutely the nicest man and it makes me so happy to see someone like him succeed in life. Unfortunately, him being the man he is only makes it more apparent to me how thug-like lots of professional sports players really are.
I'm not much of a sports fan, but my hat's off to you, Hakeem. Congratulations on a great career and a wonderful life!

Back From Austin
Steven and I have been home from Austin for about an hour or so, but I had to catch up on reading e-mails and blogs, so I'm just now getting around to saying hi.
We had a great time in Austin. Steven and I listed to 80s music almost the whole drive up and sang and laughed and just enjoyed being together. UT beat Baylor unmercifully (41 - 0; I felt bad for them) and I loved watching the little bear cub Baylor had bought (the bear is their mascot) sit in a tub of ice and eat it. Too cute. We went to Brick Oven Pizza on Red River and had the most delicious mozzarella cheese covered garlic bread and pizza. We pulled out of Austin about 4:30 which is when I promptly feel asleep. I slept the whole way in to town and it was so refreshing. I've been dreaming almost every night that I am playing EverQuest and I'm getting ready to die, so my sleep has been really broken (I am sad and pathetic; I know it). The nap was exactly what I needed.
Steven and I are probably just going to stay in the rest of the night. He's currently watching the Rockets play and I'm going to surf for a bit and then see if Brian's online so that we can duo for a bit and try to level me up.
Btw, if you haven't visited Robyn lately, you should. She's got a great charity thing going on.

Lovely Friday (With Pictures)!
Christine was a sweetheart and treated me to lunch today at Lupe's Tortillas. I posted pictures from our trip over at Picture Fish, so be sure to swing by and see them.
This week was an awesome week. My biggest client was out of town, so that reduced my workload and my stress level a lot. Plus, we have several projects on very aggressive timelines, so all my projects that were waiting on client input pretty much stayed that way.
I've had so much fun playing EverQuest and having a stress-free week, that I am not looking forward to Monday. However, I'm slightly drunk, Steven and I are going to Austin tomorrow for the UT game, and life is good, so I can't complain.
Everyone enjoy their lovely Friday evening!

What's EverQuest like then? I was going to pay the £8 (which is what the $12 something subscription works out to) to have a peek, but I was just wondering if it was worth it. I'm something of an RPG fan, so it looks cool, but I'm not entirely certain. Still, one way to find out eh?

Discovery Friday 110802
It's Friday, so that means time for another edition of Discovery Friday!
.: Apparently Nothing At All - Lor is the person who is kind enough to sponsor Ginger the dog and after reading the page, I wandered over to her blog. Not only is the design stellar, but she just got married, and has the cutest kitty to boot. Great site.
.: Not So Girlie - I found Tash's site this week and immediately added it to my blogroll. Not only is she another cool Texas chick, but she's taking my reading suggestions as well and picking up Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton. Plus, her kick-ass design by Erika rocks.
.: Shamrock Songs - another site that I found through Name That Blog due to the great name. Well worth a visit or two or three.
.: Sometimes I... - I stumbled across Deb's site this week as well and loved her coffee cup image and the name of her site. Yet another Texas lady who reads, this time I picked up a couple of suggestions from her books page.
.: Star Shaped - great site with a wonderful domain name. Have I ever mentioned that I love stars?

I was sent your way by someone over at kadyellebee.com and immediately spotted your Laurell K Hamilton reference. An old girlfriend once gave me 'Circus of the Damned' to read, though I wasn't expecting to like it, and ended up loving it. That was 2 years ago, recently I got hold of 'The Lunatic Cafe' and now I'm engrossed. It's great to find another fan :-)

.: Vacu Vin Food Saver, Set of 4: Steven already has as many of these as he needs.
.: Mikasa Terrazzo Stoneware Creamer: I kind of like this pattern. It's not my favorite, but it's nice.
.: 20" Animal Alley Hopkins the Frog: Pink: cute frog, but vaguely disturbing in bright pink.
.: Dr. No (Special Edition): I checked with Steven the other day to see if these would make nice small Christmas presents, but he said he didn't want them.
.: Mikasa Libretto Stoneware Covered Sugar Bowl: not very impressed with this pattern. It's kind of boring.
.: GoVideo DVR4200 DVD/VCR Combo: just bought a Apex AD-800 Progressive Scan DVD Player from my Gold Box, so I don't need this right now.

Ginger the Dog Needs Help
While on Robyn's site, I found a sad story about an eldery dog that could have a happy ending.
Ginger is an eldery dog who needs sponsorship at Pets Alive, a no-kill animal shelter. Ginger was taken to the shelter because she was too old to play and needed too much special care. She has lived happily at Pets Alive for many years but in her old age she needs special medication. Ginger really needs a sponsor and All Things Girl has begun fundraising to sponsor Ginger for a full year at least. For more info, please visit Ginger's page or go directly to Pets Alive and perhaps sponsor or even adopt any one of the adorable critters. Every little bit counts and they are a little over 50% to their goal, so please sponsor Ginger.

I actually have the Envision 5100e 15" LCD monitor. I just got it in September for my birthday. It's booootiful, and it's one of the cheapest LCD monitors out there. I got mine at Costco for $300.
BTW, 15" on an LCD monitor == to 17" on a CRT (regular) monitor. What that translates to is that a 15" LCD has a standard resolution of 1024x768 :)
Posted by theresa at November 7, 2002 10:48 PM
oh, one other thing I should mention since I just noticed you play computer games - LCD monitors don't have a very high refresh rate, so that you can get unclear pictures when playing games.

Scene in an Office
Scene: my desk, approaching lunch. Christine is sitting a few feet away. I am talking to Brian about EverQuest while waiting on Christine to be done with her e-mail so we can go to lunch.
The phone rings
Christine (answers the phone): Hello. This won't be Christine.
At that point, Brian and I began laughing hysterically while Christine attempts to explain to the client why she just answered the phone as she did. We have now added this to one of our funny phrases and are repeating it around the office. Ah, good times at work.
Update: Christine's phone just rang and I asked her if it was the same client as earlier (we have caller ID) and she said yes. Just as she picked up the phone I told her, "Tell him it won't be you," and she cracked up. She answered the phone laughing to the point of tears. Ah, I love taunting Christine at work some times. =)

Reasons For Love #5
As previously mentioned, Reasons For Love will now be found here instead of at Bea's site.
- He made me sandwiches last night and brought them to me while I played EverQuest
- He is willing to work with me on the whole Bella situation (she's still not always using her litterbox and she's been super hyperactive and a big pain) so we don't have to get rid of her
- When he was in Austin for the last UT game he bought me a UT shirt because he knew I wanted one
- He asked his dad or brother to miss the next UT game so that I can have one of their tickets (they have three season passes) and spend the day with him in Austin
- He was so cute when contemplating the idea of making home-made ice cream

Reasons For Love's New Home
Bea has decided to take a hiatus from blogging for a while, so until she comes back, Reasons For Love will be done right here at The Neurotic Fishbowl. If you haven't seen this meme before, it's kind of similar to Jess's Participation Positives - every week those who are involved in a relationship with somebody share a few (simple but significant) reasons for their love. Please keep in mind that this does not have to be a romantic relationship. It can be about a parent, a sibling, a friend, a co-worker, your kid, your dog, whatever. My reasons will be up tomorrow (along with my own kind of meme "It's a Group Thing"), so be sure to come back and let me know who you love and why!

This-or-That Tuesday
Time for Christine's This-or-That Tuesday:
- Art or science museum?
I've probably been to the science museum more (and definitely the most recently), but I wish I visited art museums more. I'll say science, though, because I love dinosaurs. lol
- Play or watch sports?
Neither. I hate sports.
- Zoo or circus?
Zoo. I love animals and I hate clowns. No contest.
- Theater: film or live on stage?
I would like to visit live theater more (the production of The Lion King that I went to blew a lot of movies away), but it's usually film.
- Rock concert or the symphony?
It's so weird, but I have never been to the symphony. I love classical music, was in band in school, so it's just so strange that I've never gone. I'll say rock concert, but let's make it Sting or Tori Amos.
- Movies: see them in a theater or wait for DVD/VHS?
It used to be see them in the theater, but I hate going to the movies now since someone has always brought their screaming infant or lets their cell phone ring incessantly. It's wait now for the most part.
- Board games or computer/video games?
I love board games, but it's computer/video games that own my soul (Anyone up for a littleEverQuest?).
- Hobbies: crafts (art, cooking, home repair, etc) or collecting (coins, stamps, rocks, etc)?
Collecting.
- Watch TV or read a book?
I do a lot of both, so this is a hard choice. If it was never read a book again or never watch tv again, reading would win out.
- Eating out: fancy, white-tablecloth restaurant or casual dining?
Casual dining.

Civic Duty
I went and did my civic duty today by voting (straight Democratic ticket, of course). I hope everyone else did too! If not, be sure to hurry to your polling center and make your voice heard!

BlogWise
As Rannie mentioned, it's always nice to get additional traffic at your blog. Sven opened up BlogWise this week which is currently a new blog directory catergorized by country and keyword. It sounds like he's got a lot more in the works for it, though, so drop by and add your blog to the list.

Another Reason to Support Blogrolling
Here's yet another reason to support Blogrolling:
I have over 120 people linked to me, but when someone new is added, the link is placed in the list at random so I can't always find the new linker. I e-mailed Jason and asked him if there was a way for new linkers to be placed at the bottom of the list to make finding them easier. Literally five minutes later he e-mails me back to let me know it's been done.
I donated for both this site and Picture Fish. If you use his service, why not reward his excellent customer service and send him a donation?

Definately, I ususally don't toss money around but considering that I would go nuts without blogrolling I sent him some cash. That's the way I keep track of my daily reads... if they don't have an updated mark by them - I don't read - hope I don't miss too many posts that way!

Your 10 exposures were great. I'd seen most of them before (on the gallery, in Rannie's contests, over at Common Threads and Picture Yourself) but seeing them all presented together in the gallery style that Rannie uses made me love them all over again.
Especially the one of that fish! You need to make it into another site skin! :)

Damn Healthcare Industry
As you might recall from the early days on my blog here, I've had stomach issues for a long time and finally decided to go see a doctor in early March about it. After an endoscopy it turns out I have gastritis (inflammed tummy) and acid reflux. The worst part of this whole ordeal has got to be the screw-ups with my bills.
My doctor is covered under my insurance but the group of doctors he works with is not. Inevitably, the bills get submitted under the group name, not the doctor name, so I have to call both the insurance company and the doctor's office and try and get it all straightened out.
The last go around was for $293 worth of lab work that should have been 80% covered, but of course, was shown as to be my responsibility entirely. The nice lady at the doctor's office finally argued with the insurance people herself and told me not to worry until I saw another bill from them. I get the statement of benefits today and it was like the heavens had opened up. I only owe $42! Yeah! I continue to go through the mail and get to another bill from my doctor for a $200 office visit from February. WTF? They're only supposed to be $15! Upon closer inspection, it too was submitted under the group name meaning that tomorrow I get to start the process all over again.
Since processing claims are these people's jobs, you'd think that maybe one of these might be right. Fucking healthcare industry. I could just scream.

Blogrolling Tip
If you check your stats compulsively like I other people do, you've probably noticed the long URL that you get when someone hits your from their Blogroll. Often I've looked at that URL and wondered to whom it belonged (is that correct English?). Michele, who is not only smart but hot as well, came up with the idea of making a link that says "Me!" and links to your site (additional tip: use a space in front of the M to be placed on the top) so people can see who hit them. Thanks for the great tip, Michele!

Thanks for the tip. I'd been hitting other sites compulsively through my Blogroll, but no longer. Now I've switched to plain HTML links to other weblogs. The _backup_ function on the Blogrolling site makes the list fairly easy to update. A big benefit of the switch is that my weblog loads faster. Blogrolling was really dragging down pageload time.

Ice Cream Maker, Anyone?
You may or may not have noticed that for two days running I got in my Amazon.com Gold Box offers a Cuisinart ICE-20 1-1/2-Quart Automatic Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt & Sorbet Maker, White. I was tempted both times to buy it but didn't since we have no room in our miniscule kitchen for anymore kitchen implements and I didn't see Steven having a real desire to mess with it.
Saturday night we were watching a Tivod Good Eats and the subject just happened to be ice cream and gelatos. I mentioned to Steven that I had been offered an ice cream maker that looked just like the one Alton Brown was using. Steven perked up and was like, "Really? How much was it?" so now I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy it.
If anyone gets one in their box and doesn't want to buy it, if you purchase it for me, I'll paypal you the money. I think it was almost $20 off, so I would certainly appreciate it.
Update: Kristine got it in her box, so she ordered it for me and I got to save $10. Yeah! Thanks, Kristine!

Free Steaks
Steven and I went to the Texas Land & Cattle Steakhouse last night for dinner. While the food was great (excellent baked potato; yummy!), what was even better was the customer service.
When the waiter brought my salad I, of course, reached over for my silverware and unwrapped it which is when a big piece of fat fell out onto the table. Steven undid his and there was a big lump of gravy or cheese in it. Very disgusting. We flagged the waiter down, he apologized profusely, and brought us new napkins.
A little while later the manager came over and said he was very sorry that that had happened to us and he had taken care of the whole meal. That is far more than I would have ever expected, especially since we didn't talk to him at all - the waiter must have told him. We tipped the waiter $10 and left happy, vowing to remember to come have dinner there more often.
What a smart manager. He turned a possible issue (though, honestly, it didn't bug us that much) into a very positive situation for his restaurant. Kudos to him!

Damn Monitor
I am so pissed at my damn monitor. Several months ago it was acting up so I took it to Best Buy and they repaired it (I bought that extended warranty thing, so it was covered for repairs). Today I sit down in front of the computer, turn it on, it starts, suddenly turns into a solid bar of color, and dies. I am currently on the oldest, darkest monitor in the world that is all of fifteen inches. I had planned to play EverQuest for several hours before we went to dinner, but the screen is so dark, I can't see where I'm going. This sucks! My manager said I could borrow one of the monitors from work, so here's to hoping I can convince Steven to go over there tonight so I can play games all weekend.

.: 4-piece Crib Bedding Set - Transport: I have no desire for kids at all, so pass big time on this.
