These Foolish Things
Last night at the Geek Gathering, Barrett went through all the music on my iPod ("I'm not judging your music, but I am judging you a little." *snerk*).
Since I was bringing as much of my music collection as could fit on my iPod over here so I could housesit and have access to my music files, some questionable stuff made it on there (I swear, all the Michael Jackson music was stuff my ex had that I'd ripped when I was putting all of our music into mp3s).
I did feel compelled, though, to defend having Rod Stewart on my iPod. I like some of his older stuff (especially "My Heart Can't Tell You No" and "Forever Young"), but what I really love is his reworkings of the American standards - "I've Got You Under My Skin," "The Nearness of You," "I'll Be Seeing You," etc.
Rod has got the perfect voice for this stuff. I can see him sitting in a dark, smokey bar, drinking whiskey, smoking a cigarette, and pining for what might have been.
