Mnemonic Devices
Last night while at Christine's house, the original version of Trivial Pursuit came up. I was thinking about it on my way home and was pretty sure that it was called the Genus Edition (it was). That made me think of genus species (the name that all creatures have to identify them; humans are Homo sapiens, you know) and I flashed back to freshman honors biology with Mr. Borg. I remember having to know stuff like that for tests and it made me wonder if I could remember the entire nomenclature. Suddenly the phrase King Phillip Comes Over For Good Sex (we learned it as Spaghetti, but being high school kids, changed it to sex) and I knew it was kingdom, phylum, class, order, genus, and species. Talk about a good mnemonic device! I remember that from almost fifteen years ago.
At the last Tiara Happy Hour, though, I was talking to Mac and a few other people (I think one of them was Natalie) about how Mr. Air Force had given me directions to meet him the first time which included north and west. I told him, "Hypothetically, let's say that one doesn't know which directions north and west are. What would that be with lefts and rights?" (Hey, I wasn't in the Air Force; I have no idea. I still have to make an L with my left hand to make sure I've got left and right correct despite having a genius level IQ.) That discussion brought up how, in third grade, our teacher taught us Never Eat Soggy Waffles (going clockwise) to remember which way the directions are. To this day I still think of it and that was twenty years ago or so.
Anyone else have any mnemonic devices they use?

Katie Put Catsup On Fuzzy Green Spiders and Never Eat Shredded Wheat for the two you mentioned. In piano lessons we had some, but I can't recall those. Something about cows and grass.

Color coding for resistors. Three bands of colors, first two for numbers and the last for number of zeros following. i.e 800 ohms would be Grey/Black/Brown
That's from 30 years ago...I can't remeber the clean version, so please forgive me here, I was an 18 year old sailor then.

The musical ones were like Every Good Boy Does Fine for the lines on the treble clef and FACE for the spaces.
We had one for the planets, too, but I don't remember it, so it must not have been that good.

You left out Family in your scientific names, though. For some reason, that one always stuck in my head with the actual names, no device needed. Odd. Mickey Gave Pluto Some Puppy Dog Treats is the 7 guest service guidelines at Walt Disney World, but I don't think I could remember what they all are.
