Singin' in the Rain

I watched Singin' in the Rain tonight - my absolute favorite movie of all time.

If you've never seen this movie - whether you like musicals or not - this is a must-see movie. It's funny, romantic, got great song and dance numbers, and of course, there's the irrepressible, irresistible Gene Kelly (who not only did the singing and dancing, but also arranged all the musical numbers and co-directed).

I just adore this film so much. From the unforgettable image of Gene Kelly standing in the rain, smiling so wide (he actually got really sick while doing that number) to Donald O'Conner hamming it up and running up walls for laughs. To Debbie Reynolds shooting Gene Kelly down in the care and Jean Hagen, so beautiful, but oh, so funny sounding.

I was looking at IMDB info for the movie tonight and I was shocked to find out Kelly was forty when he did it. Forty! I had no idea. I knew that Debbie Reynolds was really young, but she was only twenty when she was in it. Talk about an age discrepancy between the stars, but I never would have guessed.

So, yet again, just me waxing rhapsodic about another of my favorite movies.

I have heard a lot on Singing in the rain, but sad to say I have yet to see yet, despite the musical being staged in Singapore some years back. Now that you have reminded me, I will definitely make it a point to catch the movie version now! BTW, your site is great!

That's a great movie. I love the old musicals.

Easily my favorite musical of all time. I have the original DVD release and I've been contemplating trading up for the two disc version. I can honestly say I watch this one at least once every two months. Gene Kelly is one of the greatest entertainers of our time.

Singin' in the Rain has always been one of my favourite musicals. That, "Gigi", "An American in Paris", "King and I" and "Royal Wedding". Not in that order... it depends on the day which order they go into.

I LOVE Gene Kelly!

Of course, the most delightful part of the film is how they dubbed the dubber at the end. Although Debbie Reynolds played the character who dubbed Lina Lamont (played by Jean Hagen), in fact another actress dubbed Debbie's voice in the last number (a sort of cinematic joke of the director, no doubt). My favorite line (among many): "Why, I make more money than - than - than Calvin Coolidge, put together!" I still won't forget the vaudeville dancers playing Fit as a Fiddle or Moses Supposes. Oh, how I miss that movie. BTW, another hilarious music comedy I recommend is Hear My Song (Irish). It's the Irish Singin in the Rain. These kinds of movies are great mood picker uppers!

I love Gene Kelly - so handsome.. he could sing, dance ::sigh:: My girls, 7 and 3, love watching it with me. They giggle over Jean Hagen's voice and laugh out loud during Donald O'Connor's "Make 'Em Laugh" routine.
They don't make them like they used to make 'em.
