Bookcrossing to Change a Life

Jeanna and I were talking about my post regarding why I care about women's rights when I was struck with a bolt of inspiration.

I've heard about BookCrossing (read books and leave them for others to read and they leave them for others to read ad naseum), but have never participated in it. Thinking how Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale had such a profound impact on me, I hit upon the idea of getting books like it, Animal Farm, and Lord of the Flies (just to name a few) to release through BookCrossing. Hopefully, people would read these books and by reading them, maybe they would begin to think about the ideas that they discuss.

We're going to hit some used bookstores and get some copies to release into the wild, so here's your chance. What book or books influenced you? If you could have someone read a book, what would it be? Leave me some titles and I'll add them to the list.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach

The Little Prince by Antoine de St. Exupery

A Separate Peace by Jonathan Knowles

Of Human Bondage by Sommerset Maugham

The Art of Loving by Erich Fromm

All of these are books I read before I had reached the age of 20, and they had a profound impact on the rest of my life.

There's one more, which I read more recently: Fire in the Belly: On Being A Man, by Sam Keen.

I'd like to recommend Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. It's a book I mention frequently in my blog. Just saw the movie on the Sci-Fi channel this weekend.

I could never make it through Lord of the Flies, and I tried at least 5 times. The thought now of trying to read it makes me want to reach for a spork to gouge my eyes out with...

I love this idea. Right off the top of my head, I'd recommend "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee (I think).
