Art My Ass

A statue depicting a woman falling to her death from the World Trade Center was covered up in Rockefeller Center today.

I am all for freedom of speech in art, but just because you can make something that offensive and heartbreaking doesn't mean you should. And if you do, at least put it in a gallery or something not on the fucking street where people are assaulted by it. And he was a fool if he didn't think something like that would cause pain to the people who saw it.

I was just composing a blog entry on this very subject, saw it on Drudge. Makes me sick, I knew what it was before I even read the title.

Argh that's horrid and disgusting!

i agree... that was just in poor taste when people are still trying to get their lives back together... if he wants to showcase the statue, put it in a museum where people can *choose* to view it, not where they're *forced* to view it.

I like the quote in the article - it's not art, and it doesn't offer their deaths any dignity. There is a line... that crossed it.

what was he (fishl) thinking? or was he?
this statue is disrespectful towards the
living and the dead.
