Despair

A man in Iran beheaded his seven-year-old daughter because he thought she had been raped by her uncle. He had to do it to defend his "honor, fame, and dignity."

I was thinking the other night of the woman in Nigeria who is going to be stoned to death for having a child out of wedlock. As soon as her baby is weaned, they are going to kill her. I weep for people in this world. When will we stop forcing women to wear clothes that cover them from head to foot and kill them if they are victims of violence? When will we stop female genital mutilations? When will this planet be a fair place to live? Ever? Never? Stories like this make me think that it is hopeless, that this world will never be a better place.

What an awful story. This year, the press has picked up many similar stories and I've started to gain a better appreciation of global feminist efforts. Like you though, I just feel rather hopeless about it all.

As long as religions like Islam exist, I don't think there will ever be an end to this. Sad, but I think the answer to your question is ... never. Very sad.
