Arizona - The State of Depression

Since I still haven't posted about my business trip to Arizona last week, I thought now would be a good time. :-)

The flight over was uneventful but kind of nice since one of the people on our row didn't show up. I had plenty of room to stretch out and take a nap, which was good.

When Krista, Christine, and I landed in Phoenix our first thought was, "OMG. This place is terrible! Where's the grass?" The part of Phoenix that we flew into was under construction and awful looking. I've lived my whole life around trees and lots of green plants, so venturing into the desert was quite a shock. It's about 150 miles to and I swear the only trees we saw were in a grove of some sort. Krista quipped that if it wasn't sunny we'd have killed ourselves by now and I took to calling it the state of depression instead of the state of Arizona.

We went straight into a meeting when we got to the health resort/spa place in Tucson at about 3:00 (send me an e-mail or leave a comment if you want to know the name of the place. I just don't want them getting hits on their site from mine and finding my blog) which lasted until about 6:15 when we had to leave to go get ready for our spa treatments. Christine took off for the spa service place and Krista and I took all of our stuff to our room. Wait a minute. Did I say room? We actually had a little mini-house to stay in complete with full kitchen, washer and dryer, and huge walk-in closet. There was a little sign in the closet saying the cost of the room was $1,400 per night for one person, $1,010 for two, and $840 for three. Not exactly a cheap little hotel room!

Krista and I then walked to the spa center for our massages and they were heavenly. Since it was dark by the time we got out, it was a little easier to appreciate Tucson minus the blazing heat. We met Christine back at the room and walked over to the dining room, but we were too late for dinner. It's funny, but they don't have prices on menus, just a list of fat, fiber, and calories per item. They even had a little sign next to the fruit bowl!

The next day we got up early (the other girls got up about a half hour before me and walked around the place taking pictures) and went to breakfast. I ordered whole wheat pancakes. They were surprisingly delicious. After that we went back to the room to get ready for our meeting.

You would think at first glance that the place would be devoid of life, but that turned out not to be the case. We saw rabbits, lizards, and prairie dogs all over the place in addition to a ton of beautiful plant life. Tucson was definitely prettier than Phoenix, but the state is just too brown for me to like it all that much.

After the meeting, it was back on the road and back home. All in all, it was a great meeting. The clients were very nice and easy to work with and we got so much accomplished. I am really excited about how wonderful this site is going to be. They've already started talking about phases two, three, and four, so I can see this is going to be the start of a wonderful relationship.

I'm having just the opposite problem. I moved to Massachusetts from AZ and it's too damn green here. :)
Glad you had a good time at the spa. Beats the grungy bar type of business meeting any day.

hey man, don't diss on AZ! so what if there's no green... it's a desert! you'd think differently if you went up north near Sedona and Flagstaff. one of the great things about Phx in the winter is if you get tired of the 70 degree weather, you can always take a two hour drive to Flag and go skiing. where can you go to from yewston? louisiana? big deal!
